The defect
IN SOME CASES, THE UNIVERSAL JOINT MAY PENETRATE THE WALL OF THE FUEL TANK. INSUFFICIENT CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE FRAME MOUNTED PLASTIC FUEL TANK AND THE DRIVELINE PROPELLER SHAFT MAY ALLOW CONTACT BETWEEN THE SHAFT UNIVERSAL JOINT AND THE TANK.
The remedy
THE DEALER WILL INSTALL A SHIELD BETWEEN THE FUEL TANK AND PROPELLER SHAFT UNIVERSAL JOINT TO MAINTAIN THE REQUIRED CLEARANCE. THIS WILL BE DONE AT NO COST TO OWNER.

A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
