The defect

THE SEAT CUSHIONS AND SEAT FRAMES ON THESE VAN BUSES MAY HAVE BEEN INSTALLED WITH INSUFFICIENT CLEARANCE BETWEEN THE SEATS. THESE VEHICLES DO NOT COMPLY WITH FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 222, "SCHOOL BUS PASSENGER SEATING AND CRASH PROTECTION".

The remedy

THE SEAT CLEARANCE WILL BE CHECKED ON ALL INVOLVED VEHICLES AND ANY BUSES WITH INADEQUATE CLEARANCE WILL HAVE THEIR SEAT CUSHIONS AND FRAMES RELOCATED AT NO CHARGE.

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: SCHOOL BUSES (VAN TYPE).SYSTEM: INTERIOR SYSTEMS; SEAT CUSHIONS AND SEAT FRAMES.CONSEQUENCES OF DEFECT: IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT IN WHICH THE SEAT FRAMESBECOME BENT, THE SEATBACK COULD CAUSE LEG INJURIES TO PASSENGERS SEATED BEHINDIT AND COULD MAKE EXITING THE VEHICLE MORE DIFFICULT.
