What this recall covers

NHTSA's campaign record, quoted as published

The defect

THE PARKING BRAKE RELEASE CABLE MAY BIND IF IT IS TOO CLOSE TO THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD. ALSO, THE OIL HOSE MAY CONTACT THE BRAKE PUMP BRACKET AND EVENTUALLY CAUSE OIL TO LEAK FROM THE HYDRO-MAX SYSTEM.

The risk

THIS COULD CAUSE THE PARKING BRAKE TO BE INOPERATIVE, WHICH COULD ALLOW THE TRUCK TO ROLL AND COULD RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT.

The remedy

REPLACE AND REROUTE CABLE TO PREVENT BINDING. ALSO INSPECT AND REPLACE DAMAGED HOSE.

Notes

SYSTEM: PARKING BRAKE RELEASE CABLE.VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: HEAVY DUTY TRUCKS.

A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
