What this recall covers

NHTSA's campaign record, quoted as published

The defect

THE LEFT OR RIGHT FRONT TAG HANGER ASSEMBLY CAN DEVELOP A METAL FATIGUE PROBLEM WHERE THE JOURNAL TUBE IS WELDED TO THE FRAME MOUNTING PLATE. CRACKS THROUGH THE FRAME MOUNTING PLATE MAY BEGIN AROUND THE JOURNAL TUBE AND PROPAGATE UP THE SUPPORTING GUSSET.

The risk

WHEN THE CRACKS BECOME SEVERE, THE JOURNAL TUBE ANDSUPPORTING GUSSET CAN PULL THROUGH THE FRAME MOUNTING PLATE, ALLOWING THETAG AXLE TO ROLL OUT FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE.

The remedy

REPLACE THE RIGHT AND LEFT FRONT TAG HANGER ASSEMBLY WITH A REDESIGNED ASSEMBLY.

Notes

SYSTEM: SUSPENSION.EQUIPMENT DESCRIPTION: TAG AXLE ASSEMBLY.

A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
