What this recall covers

NHTSA's campaign record, quoted as published

The defect

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: MINIVANS. DUE TO THE INAPPROPRIATE SHAPE OF THE LINKAGE IN THE REAR DOOR LOCK CONTROLLER, ACCUMULATED DUST MAY PREVENT THE DOOR LOCK MECHANISM FROM FUNCTIONING PROPERLY, CAUSING INCOMPLETE LOCKING OF THE DOOR WHEN THE CHILDPROOF LOCKING SYSTEM IS USED.

The risk

THIS COULD RESULT IN AN OPENING OF THE DOOR WHILE DRIVING, INCREASING THE RISK OF PERSONAL INJURY TO A VEHICLE OCCUPANT.

The remedy

DEALERS WILL INSTALL PARTS IN THE LATCHING ASSEMBLY THAT WILL PREVENT THIS PROBLEM FROM OCCURRING.

A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
