2007 Saturn Aura Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2007 Saturn Aura, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Reports by component

Ranked by how many owner reports name each component category

Percentages are of component mentions. A single complaint can name more than one component, so these do not sum to the total complaint count.

HEAD LIGHTS CONSTANTLY GO OUT. AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON

NHTSA ID 11387456 · filed Jan 11, 2021

I HAVE OWNED THIS 2007 SATURN AURA SINCE 2017 AND THE SERVICE AIRBAG LIGHT WILL COME ON INTERMITTENTLY WHETHER THERE IS A FRONT PASSENGER OR NOT, SOMETIMES THE LIGHT WILL REMAIN ON FOR THE ENTIRE TIME I'M USING THE CAR THAT DAY AND THEN OTHER TIMES THE LIGHT COME ON FOR A BRIEF PERIOD AND ON RARE OCCASIONS THE LIGHT WILL REMAIN OFF THAT ENTIRE DAY. IT DOESN'T SEEM TO MATTER IF THE CAR IS IN MOTION OR AT WHAT SPEED THIS OCCURS, IT SEEMS TO BE TOTALLY RANDOM. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING AS LONG AS I HAVE OWNED THE CAR THAT CURRENTLY HAS 109,00 MILES ON IT. AS FAR AS I KNOW THIS CAR HAS NEVER BEEN IN ANY ACCIDENTS.

THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN AND OUT OF REPAIR FOR THE SAME PROBLEM, ENGINES HAVE BEEN REPLACED BUT NO SOLUTION HAS BEEN FOUND. WHEN DRIVING AROUND 60MPH THE ENGINE WOULD STALL AND 'ENGINE POWER REDUCED' AND 'TRACTION OFF' WOULD FLASH, REDUCING THE CAR SPEED AND MAKING ACCELERATION NEAR IMPOSSIBLE- SOMETIMES MULTIPLE TIMES IN ONE TRIP. CAR ACCELERATES VERY SLOWLY AND CAUSES TRAFFIC BUILDUP. RPM IS AT 5 (X1000)/MIN AT JUST 30MPH AND THE ENGINE IS MAKING LOUD NOISES. SOMETIMES WHEN STALLED OR AT A RED LIGHT THE ENGINE WILL CUT OUT COMPLETELY AND THE CAR WILL DIE. ALMOST CONSISTENTLY THE CAR WILL RATTLE AND SHAKE IN A PULSING MATTER. AS PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED I HAVE BROUGHT IT IN TO LOCAL REPAIR SHOPS AND NO ONE HAS BEEN ABLE TO FIND A SOLUTION. OFTEN TIMES THE ENGINE IS REPLACED BUT THE PROBLEM COMES BACK AFTER A COUPLE WEEKS.

I EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUE AS A LOT OF OTHER OWNERS, THE GEAR SHIFT WOULD NOT GO INTO PARK SO THEREFORE MY CAR STARTED TO ROLL AWAY. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS I WAS STILL NOT ABLE TO GET IT IN PARK SO I LEFT IT IN NEUTRAL AND PUT ON THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. TO START MY VEHICLE I HAVE TO HAVE MY CAR IN NEUTRAL OR ELSE IT WILL NOT START. I RESEARCHED THE ISSUE AND SAW THAT THIS WAS AN APPARENT ISSUE THAT SEVERAL OWNERS HAVE SEEN SO I CALLED GM TO GET SOME INFORMATION. THE LADY THAT ANSWERED THE PHONE HAD A HEAVY ACCENT AND IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND HER BUT SHE STARTED A CASE AND TOLD ME TO TAKE MY CAR TO THE LOCAL AUTHORIZED SATURN REPAIR FACILITY. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN INVESTIGATED THE ISSUE AND DETERMINED THAT THIS PROBLEM WAS INDEED THE EXACT ISSUES THAT THE RECALL WAS TO ADDRESS, THE GM SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE WAS NOTIFIED AND THEY REFUSED TO AUTHORIZE THE DEALER TO PROCEED WITH THE REPAIR. HER REASON WAS THAT THE CAR HAD TOO MANY MILES AND THAT THE CABLE BROKE BECAUSE OF NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. THE DEALER INFORMED ME THAT IT WOULD BE CLOSE TO $600 TO REPAIR MY CAR AND AT THE POINT, I INFORMED THEM NOT TO DO THE REPAIR DUE TO LACK OF FUNDS ON MY PART. I AM STILL DRIVING THIS CAR WITH THIS PROBLEM, I JUST HAVE TO REMEMBER TO ALWAYS ENGAGE MY EMERGENCY BRAKE AFTER SHUTTING OF MY CAR. I'M SO GLAD THAT OUR GOVERNMENT AGREED TO BAIL OUT GM AND THEN HAVE THEM OUTSOURCE THEIR CALL CENTER AND REFUSE TO HONOR THEIR RECALLS, GREAT MOVE. UPDATED 6/13/13 *CN INVOICE RECEIVED. I HAVE HAD A NUMBER OF ISSUES WITH MY 2007 SATURN AURA. I HAVE HAD MY DASH GO OUT FOR NO APPARENT REASON SATURN COULDN'T FIND OUT WHY IT JUST STARTED WORKING AGAIN. I ESTIMATING AROUND 13,000 MILES I HAD TO HAVE MY THERMOSTAT REPLACED. THE CAR WENT DEAD AND WOULDN'T START HAD TO BE TOWED SATURN SAID THE BATTERY WOULDN'T HOLD A CHARGE. MY BIGGEST COMPLAINT IS THE HEATED SEATS. WHILE ON MY WAY FROM WORK AT 11PM ON A 4 LANE HIGHWAY DEC 9 2007 THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT CAUGHT FIRE BURNED A HOLE ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE SEAT A LITTLE BIT BIGGER THAN A QUARTER. WHILE TRYING TO EXIT THE HIGHWAY I WAS UNABLE TO SIT IN THE SEAT. WHILE I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY STOP THE VEHICLE I DID PANIC MY REAR WAS BURNED BUT THANK GOD TRAFFIC WAS LIGHT. WHEN I TURN THE HEATER OFF AND THE CAR A POLICE OFFICER WAS ON THE SCENE AND CHECKED THE CAR OVER BEFORE THE FIRE TRUCK ARRIVED. HE STATED TO THE ONSTAR HELP THAT THE FIRE DID BURN FROM THE INSIDE OUT IT DID SMELL LIKE ELECTRICAL AND THAT IT APPEARED TO HAVE SUFFOCATED OUT AFTER THE HEATER WAS TURNED OFF. SATURN COULD ONLY TELL ME THAT THE SEAT WOULD BE REPLACED AND THAT ENGINEERS WOULD BE CALLED. I THANK GOD THIS WASN'T WORSE BUT I WAS LEFT VERY TRAUMATIZED AND TRIED TO SPEAK TO THE OWNER OF THE DEALERSHIP BUT HE DID NOT RETURN MY CALL. MY SATURN EXPERIENCE IS REALLY TAKING A DOWNWARD DIVE. *TR
