2002 Saturn Sl Brakes Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the brake system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Brakes reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

THE BRAKES ON MY 2002 SL1 SATURN HAD TO BE REPLACED AT 15,000 MI; NOW, AT 30,000 MI, THE SATURN DEALERSHIP IS TELLING ME THEY NEED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. I PREVIOUSLY HAD A 1991 SATURN SL1, FOR 11 YEARS AND WITH MORE THAN 100,000 MI, AND DID NOT HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES, SO IT'S NOT MY STYLE OF DRIVING - IT'S APPARENTLY THE EQUIPMENT ON THE CAR ITSELF (AND THE REPLACEMENT PARTS AS WELL.) *NM

THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELLED TO THE FLOOR BOARD. THE OWNER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND HAD THE DEALER INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE SERVICE MANAGER STATED AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS EVALUATED THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY DEFECTS IN THE BRAKES. HOWEVER, THEY DID HAVE TO ADD FLUID TO THE BRAKES. LATER THEY CONTACTED THE OWNERS SPOUSE AND SAID THE VEHICLES BRAKE RESPONSE WAS NORMAL FOR THIS TYPE VEHICLE. PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS. *JB

STEERING WHEEL SHAKES WHEN BRAKING, ESPECIALLY AT HIGHER SPEEDS. THE DEALER REPORTS THIS IS DUE TO WARPED ROTORS DUE TO "EXTERNAL FORCES" AND NOT A WARRANTY PROBLEM. THE CAR HAS 30,000 MILES AND LESS THAN 2 YEARS OLD. DRIVEN MOSTLY HIGHWAY TO AND FROM WORK, 35 MILES ONE WAY EACH DAY. SEEMS MORE LIKE A DEFECTIVE PART OR ENGINEERING.*AK
