2007 Subaru Impreza Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2007 Subaru Impreza, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

THE "AIRBAG" LIGHT FOR DRIVERS SIDE COMES ON AND GOES OFF RANDOMLY. THIS PROBLEM WAS DISCOVERED WHILE UNDER WARRANTY AND I DID TAKE THE VEHICLE IN FOR REPAIR. BUT IF THE DEALERSHIP EVER REPAIRED THE PROBLEM (I SUSPECT THEY DID NOT REPAIR IT) THE LIGHT STILL CONTINUES TO COME ON AND GO OFF RANDOMLY. THE DEALERSHIP QUIT RETURNING MY PHONE CALLS YEARS AGO NOW.

I REPLACED THE BATTERY ON 7/11/15. I NEEDED A SMOG CERTIFICATE THIS MONTH FOR MY REGISTRATION RENEWAL AND MY VEHICLE WOULD NOT PASS FOR CERTIFICATION. I HAD DRIVEN THE VEHICLE OVER 700 MILES AFTER BATTERY REPLACEMENT AND WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED TO DRIVE IT AN ADDITIONAL 50 TO 100 MILES NON-STOP TO RESET THE VEHICLE TO PASS THE INSPECTION. I ASKED AT THE DEALERSHIP CAN'T YOU RESET THE VEHICLE HERE SO THAT ALL THIS DRIVING AND MILEAGE IS NOT REQUIRED, THE DEALERSHIP STATED NO. THE VOLKSWAGEN HAVE A RESET BUTTON ON A PANEL BUT NOT THE SUBARU OR ANY OTHER VEHICLES. ALL VEHICLES SHOULD HAVE A RESET BUTTON AND THEY SHOULD BE RECALLED TO IMPLEMENT THIS FEATURE. ALL VEHICLES MANUFACTURED IN THE FUTURE SHOULD HAVE THAT FEATURE. THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED 11/3/15 THRU 11/5/15 HAVING TO SPEND $35.00 ADDITIONAL IN GASOLINE AND DRIVING ON THE CONGESTED FREEWAYS TO RESET THE VEHICLE AFTER BATTERY REPLACEMENT. I WAS TOLD THAT I HAVE TAKATA AIR BAGS IN MY VEHICLE. WHEN WILL THEY BE REPLACED? THANK YOU. I WAS TOLD THAT I HAVE A TAKATA AIR BAGS IN MY VEHICLE BY THE MANUFACTURER. I HAVE A 2007 SUBARU WRX TR, I PURCHASED A YEAR AN HALF AGO, I WAS DRIVING MY CAR HOME FROM WORK WHEN ALL OF SUDDEN MY TRANSMISSION JUST STARTED MAKING FUNNY NOISES, I WAS ABLE TO COAST HOME TO MY HOUSE, PUT IN THE DRIVEWAY, THEN HAD IT TRAILED DOWN TO MY LOCAL SUBARU DEALER, I HAVE NOT HEARD IF UNDER WARRANTY YET BUT MY CAR ONLY HAS 26,000 MILES AND MY 3RD GEAR IS GONE ALONG WITH THE SYNCROS, IN 1ST AND 2ND GEAR, I DON'T THINK THIS SHOULD BE HAPPEN TO A BRAND NEW CAR, I THOUGHT SUABARU'S WERE SUPPOSE TO LAST FOREVER THAT'S WHY I GOT ONE, IF IT IS NOT WARRANTIED I WILL NEVER PURCHASE A SUBARU AGAIN. JUST WANTED PEOPLE TO KNOW THAT ITS NOT JUST THEM THAT WAS HAVING PROBLEMS, ITS ALOT OF SUBARU'S. I THINK SUBARU SHOULD LIVE UP TO A WARRANTY NO MATTER WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE CAR, THAT IS THE WHOLE POINT OF HAVE A WARRANTY. SO WHY BUY A CAR IF THEY DON'T HOLD UP TO WHAT THEY TELL YOU. *TR

TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN, I DON'T KNOW IF THE NHTSA IS SOMEONE THAT CAN HELP, BUT I FIGURE I WOULD TRY. I'M AT MY WITS END. I HAVE A 2007 SUBARU WRX FOUR DOOR SEDAN. IN APRIL OF 2008 I WAS DRIVING MY CAR IN A 35 MILE PER HOUR ZONE AND SHIFTED MY MANUAL TRANSMISSION FROM 2ND GEAR TO 3RD GEAR. IT POPPED OUT OF GEAR WHEN I BEGAN ACCELERATING. NEEDLESS TO SAY THE CAR WAS UNDRIVABLE AND I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO MY NEAREST SUBARU DEALERSHIP, BROWN PONTIAC, SUBARU HERE IN AMARILLO TX. THEY TORE THE TRANSMISSION APART TO FIND THAT THE THIRD GEAR WAS "STRIPPED" OUT AND NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THEY SAID I HAD ABUSED MY CAR. IT WAS AND STILL IS IN GREAT CONDITION. I PAID $908.00, HALF THE REPAIR COST TO GET MY ONE AND ONLY CAR OUT OF THE SHOP. LAST TUESDAY, 8-5-08, I WAS DRIVING MY CAR AGAIN. I SHIFTED FROM 1ST GEAR TO 2ND GEAR. I COULD NOT PUT IT IN 2ND GEAR SO, I DIDN'T FORCE IT. I LET THE CLUTCH OUT AND REENGAGED IT. I HEAR A BANG IN THE TRANSMISSION AND IT WAS OVER. TODAY, ALMOST A WEEK LATER, THE SAME SUBARU DEALERSHIP, BROWN, CALLED ME AND SAID 2ND GEAR WAS "STRIPPED" OUT OF IT, JUST LIKE 3RD GEAR. NO ONE WAS INJURED IN THESE INCIDENTS. THERE ARE SEVERAL SUBARU WRX OWNERS WITH THE SAME TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS. SOA "SUBARU OF AMERICA", REFUSE TO THINK THEY MAY HAVE A DEFECT PART OR PARTS IN THERE TRANSMISSIONS, OR THAT THEIR TRANSMISSIONS WILL FAIL. I'M FACING A $3000.00 REPAIR BILL. I HAVE DRIVEN MY CAR 4 MONTHS AND ABOUT 7000 MILES. PLEASE HELP US! *TR

WE WERE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY 14 AT ABOUT 9 PM WHEN WE HEARD (AND FELT) A LOUD BANG AND THEN FELT THE NOTICEABLE BUMPINESS OF A FLAT TIRE. WE PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE TO FIND THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE FLAT, WHICH WE PROCEEDED TO CHANGE WITH THE SPARE THAT WAS SUPPLIED WITH THE CAR. THE CAR IS A 2007 SUBARU IMPREZA AND IS ACTUALLY A LOANER FROM THE DEALER SINCE MY CAR IS IN THE SHOP, BEING REPAIRED FOR THE SAME PROBLEM FOR THE 8TH TIME IN 2 YEARS (SEPARATE COMPLAINT). UPON INSPECTING THE TIRE THE NEXT DAY, IT'S EVIDENT THAT IT IS A BLOWOUT AS IT HAS A 4 INCH SLIT IN THE SIDEWALL AND THERE WAS NOTHING IN THE ROAD THAT WE DROVE OVER. I HAVE NOT HAD THE TIRE REPLACED YET BUT THE DEALER IS ASSERTING THAT I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR THE TIRE, EVEN THOUGH IT'S NOT MY CAR. THEY DID, HOWEVER, OFFER TO SELL ME THE TIRE AT THEIR COST WITH FREE INSTALLATION. I PLAN ON KEEPING THE TIRE WHEN I DO GET IT REPLACED, SINCE I'M PAYING FOR IT. I WILL BE CONTACTING BRIDGESTONE HEADQUARTERS AND SUBARU HEADQUARTERS IN NEW JERSEY ABOUT THIS INCIDENT. TIRE IS A BRIDGESTONE POTENZA RE 92A, SIZE P205/55R16 89V DOT EM8K JLL2407. *TR

THE FOLLOWING WAS SENT TO BRIDGESTONE VIA EMAIL THIS IS TO INFORM BRIDGESTONE TIRE OF A CATASTROPHIC SIDEWALL BLOWOUT THAT OCCURRED ON A BRIDGESTONE POTENZA TIRE ON JULY 25, 2008. THE BLOWOUT OCCURRED AT THE START OF A CROSS COUNTRY TRIP ON INTERSTATE 40 HEADING TOWARDS MEMPHIS, TN. THE CAR IS A 2007 SUBARU IMPREZA PURCHASED NEW IN SEPTEMBER 2007 AND HAD APPROXIMATELY 6500 MILES ON IT AT THE START OF THE TRIP. THE MARKINGS ON THE TIRE ARE AS FOLLOWS: BRIDGESTONE POTENZA P 205/55R16 89V K0350 E92ADZ DOT EM8K JLL1207 THE SIDEWALL BLOWOUT OCCURRED TO THE LEFT REAR TIRE. PRIOR TO THE START OF THE TRIP THE CAR HAD A TUNE-UP AT AN AUTHORIZED SUBARU SERVICE DEALER. WHEN THE BLOWOUT OCCURRED THE CAR WAS PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THE TIRE WAS CHANGED USING THE PROVIDED SPARE TIRE THAT COMES WITH THE CAR. THE CAR WAS THEN DRIVEN TO THE NEAREST TIRE SERVICE COMPANY WHICH WAS WAL MART TIRE AND LUBE IN SAVANNAH, TN. STORE # 0268 175 J.I. BELL LANE, SAVANNAH, TN 38372. (731) 925 ' 3020. THE CAR'S OFFICIAL MILEAGE AS RECORDED ON THE ODOMETER AND NOTED ON THE SERVICE INVOICE WAS 6824 MILES. DAMAGE TO THE TIRE WAS TWO TEARS - ONE APPROXIMATELY TWO INCHES LONG AND ANOTHER ONE APPROXIMATELY 6 INCHES LONG ON THE SIDEWALL HALF WAY UP BETWEEN THE INNER RIM AND THE EDGE OF THE TIRE. THE DAMAGED TIRE IS AT MY HOME ADDRESS AND IS AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION. THE TIRE WAS REPLACED AT A COST OF $98.25. INVOICE # 77525. AT THIS TIME I EXPECT BRIDGESTONE TO REIMBURSE ME FOR THE COST OF THE TIRE IN THE AMOUNT OF $98.25. PROVIDE A NEW TIRE OF EQUAL VALUE TO MATCH THE REMAINING 3 TIRES AND INSPECT THE REMAINING THREE TIRES FOR ANY POTENTIAL POSSIBILITIES OF HAVING A SIDEWALL BLOWOUT. IF THERE IS A POSSIBILITY OF A SIDEWALL BLOWOUT OCCURRING IN ANY OF THE THREE REMAINING TIRES I WOULD WANT THEM REPLACED. A COPY OF THIS LETTER HAS BEEN SENT TO THE DOT. DAVID HABER *TR

I WAS AT THE DEALERSHIP HAVING A RECALL DONE FOR MY FRONT SUSPENSION A FRAMES. (WVX34) AND WAS TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED MORE EXTENSIVE REPAIRS AS PARTS WERE CORRODED AND COULD NOT BE CHANGED WITHOUT BEING DAMAGED. I WAS TOLD SUBARU HAD REFUSED TO AGREE THE REPAIRS UNTIL THEIR DPSM HAD SEEN THE VEHICLE, HE WOULD BE AT THE DEALER IN THE NEXT 4 WEEKS. I CONTACTED THE DEALER ON THE 5TH DECEMBER TO BE TOLD THE REP WOULD BE IN UNTIL THE 18TH DECEMBER (I AM OUT OF THE COUNTRY THEN). I CONTACTED SUBARU AS I WAS DISAPPOINTED WITH THE SERVICE AND THE CONTACTED THE DEALER AND CALLED ME BACK ON THE 6TH. I WAS TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE WAS DANGEROUS AND THAT THE REPAIRS WERE $5,000 WORTH AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY AS THEY HAD CORROSION AND THAT THIS WASN'T PART OF THE RECALL AND THE DPSM DATE WAS STILL THE 18TH. I WOULD ASSUME THAT IF THE A FRAMES WEE DAMAGED DUE TO CORROSION AND THAT THE SAME CORROSION HAD DAMAGED OTHER PARTS OF THE SUSPENSION THEN THIS WOULD NOT BE MY LIABILITY. I AM DRIVING A DANGEROUS VEHICLE (SAYS THE DEALER TO SUBARU BUT NOT ME) AND SUBARU NOT ONLY DON'T CARE ENOUGH TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE AS A MATTER OF URGENCY BUT DO NOT WANT TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. SO THE COMPLAINT IS THAT THE RECALL (WVX34) IS JUST FOR A FRAMES AND THE ACTUAL CORROSION DAMAGE IS MUCH MORE EXTENSIVE. *TR
