I HAVE HAD POOR PERFORMANCE AND LONGEVITY OF TIRES ON MY 30 FOOT LONG 2011 SUNNYBROOK TRAVEL TRAILER. BRANDS I HAVE USED ARE MAXXIS AND CARLISLE, SIZE ST225/75R15 RADIAL TIRES. AT ABOUT 4 YEARS OLD THE MAXXIS TIRES DEVELOPED CRACKS BETWEEN THE TREAD RIBS ON A TRIP IN MARCH. I PUT ON AN UNUSED CARLISLE SPARE AND HAD A HUGE BLOWOUT IN THE TREAD ON I-91 IN VERMONT. IN LOOKING AT WEBSITES AND TRAILER LIFE MAGAZINE, THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT TRAILER TIRES HAVING BLOWOUTS, EVEN WHEN TRAVELLING AT USUALLY 60 MPH I DO, AND WITH PROPER PRESSURE. THE CONCORD, NH TIRE WAREHOUSE HAS A GOODYEAR TRAILER TIRE IN THE OFFICE THAT ALSO HAS A TREAD BLOW OUT. IT APPEARS MOST TRAILER TIRES ARE COMING FROM CHINA AND ARE USUALLY SPEED RATED FOR UP TO 65 MPH. THE REPLACEMENT TIRES I JUST ORDERED FROM ETRAILER.COM ARE A PROVIDER PREMIUM TIRE SPEED RATED FOR UP TO 81MPH. THEY ARE ALSO FROM CHINA, AND I'M HOPING THEY REALLY ARE "PREMIUM" DURABILITY. THE ROUGH ROAD BUMPS AND POT HOLES, EVEN ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS, REALLY POUND ON TIRES AND I SEE MANY RV TRAILERS PASSING ME ON THE HIGHWAYS. SHOULDN'T ON-ROAD TRAILER TIRES BE HELD TO SIMILAR DESIGN STANDARDS AS DRIVEN VEHICLE TIRES? A HIGH SPEED BLOWOUT FAILURE OFTEN DAMAGES THE RVS AND CAN RESULT IN NASTY ACCIDENTS IF DRIVER CONTROL IS LOST. THE RV COMMUNITY, MANUFACTURERS, AND OTHER HIGHWAY USERS WILL APPRECIATE INCREASED SAFETY STANDARDS, OR AT LEAST MEETING SAFE MINIMUMS.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 SUNNYBROOK WEST POINTE TRAILER EQUIPPED WITH TRAIL EXPRESS VOMA TIRES, TIRE SIZE SP225/75/C15, AND THE DOT NUMBER WAS R2HH. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TIRES WERE 18 MONTHS OLD AND THAT THE SIDEWALLS HAD BEGUN TO DRY ROT EXHIBITING SEVERE CRACKING. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A TIRE DEALER AND THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THE WARRANTY EXPIRED AND OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE CONTACT REPLACED ALL FIVE TRAILER TIRES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED HIM THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE TIRE BRAND AND LINE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 500. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. UPDATED 1/26/2012 *LN *TR
