Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.

InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

The defect: Suzuki Motor of America, Inc. (Suzuki) is recalling certain model year 2004-2013 GSX-R600 and GSX-R750, and model year 2005-2013 GSX-R1000 motorcycles. In combination with older brake fluid, corrosion of the brake piston inside of the front brake master cylinder generates gas that may result in a reduction of fluid pressure transmission to the front brake.
The risk: As a result, front braking power may be reduced increasing the risk of a crash.
The remedy: Suzuki will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front brake master cylinder, free of charge. The recall began on November 18, 2013. Owners may contact Suzuki at 1-800-572-1490. Suzuki's campaign numbers for this recall are: 2A (31, 32, 33, 34, 35, and 36).

I WAS GOING 70 DOWN THE HIGHWAY WHEN MY BIKE SHUT OFF. LOOKED AT THE 30AMP FUSE UNDER THE SEAT AND IT WAS BLOWN. REPLACED IT WITH THE SPARE AND IT IMMEDIATELY BLEW. TRAILERED MY BIKE BACK TO MY HOUSE AND FOUND THE REGULARTOR/RECTIFIER SPARKING. THIS IS A HUGE ISSUE AND SHOULD BE A RECALL. BIKE WAS DRIVEN NORMALLY WITH NO RACING/SPEEDS OVER 80.

I WAS AT A STOPLIGHT WHEN THE VEHICLE NEXT TO ME TOLD ME THAT MY BIKE WAS ON FIRE. I WAS UNAWARE PRIOR TO THE DRIVER OF THE VEHICLE NEXT TO ME TELLING ME. I COULD NOT DIRECTLY SEE THE FLAME WHILE UPRIGHT ON THE BIKE, BUT I WAS ABLE TO LEAN OVER TO MY LEFT SIDE TO SEE A FLAME UNDERNEATH THE GAS TANK. I PULLED OVER IMMEDIATELY BUT UNFORTUNATELY COULD NOT PUT THE FLAME OUT AS IT WAS NOT REACHABLE BY THE MEANS THAT I HAD AT THE TIME. THE FLAME WAS COMING FROM THE LEFT SIDE OF THE BIKE DIRECTLY UNDER THE GAS TANK. IT WAS MORE ON THE INTERIOR THAN ON THE EXTERIOR SO I COULD NOT REACH THE FLAME TO PUT IT OUT SO I CALLED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT TO PUT THE FIRE OUT. BY THE TIME THEY ARRIVED THE BIKE WAS ESSENTIALLY TOTALED BUT THEY WERE ABLE TO PUT THE FIRE OUT.

ABRUPT ON/OFF THROTTLE CAN CAUSE SUDDEN AND UNEXPECTED RAPID DECELERATION AND ACCELERATION, DESTABILIZING THE VEHICLE POTENTIALLY LEADING TO LOSS OF CONTROL AND A CRASH. THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO OCCUR AT LOWER ENGINE RPM'S (4,000-6,000 RPM) AND SEEMS MOST PREVALENT AT HIGH ENGINE TEMPERATURES (205+ DEGREES) AND ESPECIALLY WHEN THE VEHICLE IS TURNED ON AND STARTED WHILE AT HIGHER TEMPERATURES. THIS COULD BE FROM A RUSTING THROTTLE CONTROL VALVE THAT IS NOT OPENING CORRECTLY. THE BIKE WAS STORED INDOORS AND RARELY SAW RAIN, SHOULD NOT BE RUSTING. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 SUZUKI GSX-R750. WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 80-100 MPH AND ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A TURN, THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE MOTORCYCLE WHIPPED HIM OVER THE HANDLE BARS. THE FRAME SEPARATED AND THE BODY OF THE MOTORCYCLE SPLIT IN HALF. HE LANDED APPROXIMATELY 100 FEET FROM THE MOTORCYCLE AND SUSTAINED A FEW BROKEN FINGERS ON HIS LEFT HAND AND MAJOR BRUISES. THE CONTACT WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL AND RELEASED SHORTLY AFTER. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY KEPT IT FOR A WEEK. AT THE END OF THE WEEK, THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WOULD SEND OUT A QUESTIONNAIRE REGARDING THE INCIDENT. THE CONTACT HAS NOT RECEIVED ANYTHING NOR HAS HE HEARD FROM THEM SINCE. THE DEALER STILL HAS POSSESSION OF THE MOTORCYCLE, BUT NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN PERFORMED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 14,900.

Manufacturer communications

A bulletin sent by a manufacturer to its dealers. Not a recall, and repairs are not necessarily free.

EPN-2546-2

EQUIPMENT; SERVICE BRAKES

Notification to distributors of a request to promote the disposal of old parts stock (revised).

EPN-2546

EQUIPMENT; SERVICE BRAKES

Notification to distributors of a request to promote the disposal of old parts stock.

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
