The defect: THE REAR REFLEX REFLECTOR ON AFFECTED GS500 MOTORCYCLES AND THE REAR AND SIDE REFLEX REFLECTORS ON AFFECTED GZ250 MOTORCYCLES FAIL TO CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 108, 'LAMPS, REFLECTIVE DEVICES, AND ASSOCIATED EQUIPMENT.' THE REFLEX REFLECTORS HAVE A REFLECTED LIGHT OUTPUT AT SOME MEASUREMENT ANGLES THAT IS LESS THAN THE MINIMUM OUTPUT REQUIRED BY THE STANDARD.
The risk: IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THIS COULD CONTRIBUTE TO A MOTORIST'S NOT NOTICING THE MOTORCYCLE IN DARKNESS, WHICH MAY CONTRIBUTE TO A CRASH.
The remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE NON-COMPLYING REFLEX REFLECTORS WITH COMPLYING REFLECTORS. THE RECALL BEGAN ON NOVEMBER 16, 2007. OWNERS MAY CONTACT SUZUKI AT 1-800-255-2550.

TL*- THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SUZUKI GZ250. WHILE DRIVING AT 10 MPH IN FIRST THOUGH THIRD GEAR THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE SHOOK. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE AIR PRESSURE ON THE FRONT TIRE WAS LOW. THE DEALER CORRECTED THE AIR PRESSURE. DURING THE SECOND WEEK IN APRIL 2007 THE VEHICLE STARTED SHAKING AGAIN. THE DEALER FELT THE SHAKING ON THE REAR TIRE AND NOTICED NINE BROKEN SPOKES. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAD 5,000 MILES. *AK THE CONSUMER STATED MARINA SUZUKI REPLACED ENTIRE WHEEL BUT DID NOT PROVIDE A REPAIR INVOICE. UPDATED 08/27/07 *TR
