Recalls, owner-reported complaints, investigations and safety data

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.
0
Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
0
InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

It was found that a wrong relay was installed in the starting circuit of the engine for the YT DOT vehicles. The relay swiches a 12 volt circuit, but is operated via 24 volt. Currently a 12 volt relay is installed. Over time this relay can fail due to the applied current on the coil being too high. This can result in failure of the relay, and cause a malfunction during the starting attempt of the engine.

ENGINE

During the initial phase of series production of the YT193 DOT vehicle, Terberg implemented several product improvements aimed at enhancing reliability and uptime: Aftertreatment System Cover: The shape of the cover has been redesigned to prevent contact with the air inlet. Air Intake Noise Damper: The damper on the compressor air intake has been reinforced to better withstand vibrations and improve durability. To ensure these improvements are applied to vehicles already in the field, we are launching a campaign to retrofit the updated components.

The term KL50, originates from the German DIN 72552 standard for automotive electrical terminal designations. It specifically refers to the starter control circuit. This is the wire that carries the positive signal (+12V or +24V, depending on the system) to the starter motor's solenoid when the ignition key is turned to the "start" position or a start button is pressed. A KL50 error message is a general term for any malfunction within this critical engine cranking circuit.

Since the introduction of the Volvo FA8.2 low front axle t18013960 in 2018, there have been two updates to this axle design. However, the timing of these updates in production has not always been aligned with their appearance in the parts manuals. As a result, the axle listed in Parts Online may not always match the actual axle installed on the vehicle, especially for vehicles built during the transition periods: September 2021: Introduction of axle t18013972 February 2023: Introduction of axle t18013979 This mismatch can lead to errors when ordering spare parts, particularly for vehicles assembled during these transition phases. The same applies for the axles with fitted ABS sensors, as these had the same updates on axle design.

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
