The defect: TEREX IS RECALLING 17 MY 2009 DFPR, DFPR SF, DFPR CA, DFP HD, LFPR AND HFT85-3 TRAILERS EQUIPPED WITH HALDEX AIR BRAKE SYSTEM CONTROL VALVE. THE RUBBER DIAPHRAGM USED INSIDE THE QUICK RELEASE VALVE (QRV) MAY DELAMINATE AND MAY CAUSE LEAKAGE LEVELS PAST AND/OR THROUGH THE DIAPHRAGM IN EXCESS OF PERMISSIBLE SPECIFICATIONS, OR COULD CAUSE A RESTRICTION IN THE AIR FLOW, THEREBY EFFECTING PRESSURE DELIVERY TO THE SERVICE BRAKES AND NOT ALLOW THE SERVICE BRAKES TO RELEASE.
The risk: MALFUNCTION OF THE AIR BRAKE SYSTEM COULD RESULT IN A VEHICLE CRASH.
The remedy: TEREX IS WORKING WITH HALDEX AND WILL INSPECT AND REPLACE ALL EFFECTED QRVS FREE OF CHARGE. PLEASE SEE 09E-004. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING JUNE 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HALDEX AT 1-620-365-6911 OR TEREX AT 1-425-556-6588.

Safety recall

Safety investigation
NHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
Manufacturer communication
Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
