Recalls, owner-reported complaints, investigations and safety data

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
0
InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

No recalls in our database for this model year

That does not guarantee a specific vehicle is unaffected — recalls are issued against VINs, and new campaigns are announced regularly. Check a VIN on NHTSA.gov.

The contact owns a  2024 Tesla Cyber Truck. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed during daylight, the dashboard accent would reflect in the side mirrors. The vehicle was diagnosed by an independent mechanic and taken to a local dealer for repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred him to call NHTSA to file a safety complaint. The failure mileage was unknown.

I had taken delivery of the truck 4 days earlier and had driven about 250 miles. There had been no warnings or incidents other than an issue with charging at my home. The Charger would fail 20 seconds after each charging attempt at home, but not at a Super Charging Station. On [XXX] a series of alerts went off regarding steering. First the onboard computer notified me that the "Rear axle steering was disabled and that the turning radius was limited." The system continued sending additional alerts saying that "Low voltage electrical system issue detected" and that vehicle power had been reduced. I made multiple attempts to resolve the issue from following the on screen directions of existing the vehicle to restarting the onboard computer before eventually reaching out to Tesla's Support Number. The truck could only move at a crawl (less than 5mph) and had difficulty getting onto the incline of the tow truck. At one point no amount of acceleration could take it further. The truck was towed to the Tesla Service Center that same evening. My concern is what if this would've happened on the highway? Since then I've attempted to reach out to the Tesla Service Center in Fort Lauderdale both in person and on the App and have not received any additional information. The service completion repair time has been pushed back from March 17th to March 27th to April 3rd with no explanation or follow-up. I have also learned that there are other CyberTruck owners who are in similar situations and communication from Tesla has been minimal at best. The driver door striker latch came loose and was close to completely disconnecting from the vehicle body. This led to a body panel gap and the possibility of the door opening while in motion. Elon Musk on twitter is saying that a number of vehicles from the factory were delivered to customers for this issue and it is a major safety risk that should be addressed officially. Manufacturer communications

A bulletin sent by a manufacturer to its dealers. Not a recall, and repairs are not necessarily free.

STEERING

On some Semi, the steering gear to reservoir return hose clamp may have loosened over time which may cause steering fluid leakage from the reservoir. Inspect the vehicle for symptoms related to the condition. If symptoms are present, replace the steering gear to reservoir return hose clamp with an updated part.

POWER TRAIN

Updated oil pumps that provide improved oil flow are available for the Torque Drive Unit (TDU) and Efficiency Drive Unit (EDU) on Semi. Replace the TDU and EDU oil pumps with updated parts.

VISIBILITY/WIPER

Some Semi trucks are equipped with a windshield washer nozzle that may not meet Tesla specifications. While adequate in suppling washer fluid to the windshield, affected washer nozzles may restrict washer fluid output and increase the amount of wiper cycles needed to remove debris and contaminates.

On some Semi, the manifold to HVAC A/C lines may rub against the steering column i-shaft, which may damage the A/C lines over time.

STRUCTURE:BODY

On certain Semi, when the LH cabin door is repeatedly closed with a high amount of force, the fire extinguisher bracket might loosen over time.

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
