2018 Thor Motor Coach Outlaw Owner Complaints

Reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers, shown in full

Data refreshed

Complaints on fileComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

the coach has a know design flaw its in the what the walls are attached to the flooring of the coach....the design was under spec'ed (9) 3" screws over a 55" span approx 9-10" apart) and the hardware used was put under excessive force causing the screws used to hold the walls in place and attached to the floor to sheer and break causing the walls to separate from the floor and the coach structure to become comprimised , with wall sag , wall separations gapping between the walls and floor and excessive dash bouncing while driving once these screws sheered the rest of the structure becomes weak causing other structure concerns... this has been brought to the manufactures attention in multiple emails to the warranty division and in the industry its known as "Thor wall separation" I took it upon myself to do a precautionary inspection as ive recently started to have a bit of dash bouncing upon my inspection I found at least 60% of the screws holding my walls (Driver & Pass) broken I took it upon myself to speak with local dealer whom Thor recommended and got the details on how "they" fix the problem I made the repairs and even took it a level above adding extra structure to support the walls and added extra screws 6" apart for a total of (14 screws over the 55" span approx 6" apart ) the history of this issue is as far back as 2016 and is seen on newer 2020 Thor models outside of the "Outlaw" model

It seems that Thor did not install the proper amount of wall screws to the floor. This is causing wall separation the causing the dash to come loose from the walls and cause the steering column to be unstable This is a high rate of failure on these units on the Thor outlaw toy hauler models
