2018 Tiffin Wayfarer Problems
Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2018 Tiffin Wayfarer, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.
Reports by component
Ranked by how many owner reports name each component category
- Brakes120.0%
- Driver assistance120.0%
- Fuel system120.0%
- Other / unspecified120.0%
- Powertrain (other)120.0%
Percentages are of component mentions. A single complaint can name more than one component, so these do not sum to the total complaint count.
Each component in detail
What the reports in each category say, in the owners' own words
Brakes
Reports naming service brakes, the antilock braking system, brake hoses, master cylinders or the parking brake.
From owner reports, verbatim
IN JULY OF 2020 THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL SENSOR FAILED CAUSING ABS/CRUISE CONTROL AND RSC TO FAIL. ON JANUARY 18TH, 2021 THE LEFT REAR WHEEL SPEED SENSOR FIALED PROVIDING FAULT CODE C0037. THE ABS/CRUISE CONTROL AND RSC FAILED. SYMPTOMS INCLUDE TRANSMISSION SHIFT ISSUES AND SPEED ISSUES. NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS AND IT WAS NOTSET OF BY HIGH WINDS AS REPORTED BY OTHER OWNERS. THIS FAILURE IS CAUSING AN UNSAFE DRIVING CONDITION. I WAS DRIVING AT 60 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY NORMAL WEATHER NO RAIN OR WINDS.

Driver assistance
Reports naming forward-collision avoidance, lane keeping, back-over prevention, cruise control and related electronic driver-assistance systems.

Fuel system
Reports naming fuel storage or delivery — tanks, pumps, lines, injectors and fuel leaks.
From owner reports, verbatim
Discovered diesel fuel leaking in area of Onan generator. Attempted to find fuel shutoff, but none existed, so I kinked fuel line and used zip tie to stop Diesel from leaking. Next, I removed air filter housing, in order to find cause of leak, and found fuel leaking from return fuel line at y connection. The fuel line leaking, was leaking at a connection of where the hose connected to a y junction, and the barb, at the junction was too large for the rubber hose, causing the hose to split because causing a fuel leak. Dealership was contacted, in order to determine location of shutoff valve, but was told that the information on the unit couldn’t be given because of liability reasons. Dealership refuses to correct problem, so the following will be done myself. 1. No shutoff valve, was found, so one will be added inline for safety. 2. Re-design of clamp, connection, and stronger fuel hose will be added for durability.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
