2018 Toyota Camry Fuel system Problems

Toyota has recognized a problem with the low pressure fuel pump on some 2018 Camry cars which causes a hesitation when driving from a stop creating a rear danger of a rear-end collision. It has been happening intermitantly everysince car was new.. Toyota claimed that my vin was not one of the ones recalled even though I experienced the e3xact same problem. There appears to be an additional recall for the same issue in 2025, but here again my camry is not included. I only have 40,000 miles on my camry and I would like to keep it but am worried about the hesitation. The engine actually cuts off very briefly.

Car stalled while driving and needed to be towed to dealership. Dealership confirmed that there was coolant intrusion into the engine that clogged the fuel injector causing the car to stall while driving. Dealership informed us that car will need a new engine and transmission because of the coolant intrusion. The car stalled while driving and could have led to an accident or loss of life depending on where the car stalled and when. This coolant intrusion has been confirmed by the dealership and shown to us via video they took. The vehicle has only been inspected by the dealership and we called Toyota corp to have then review this as a safety issue. They informed us the call stalling was not a safety issue. UNKNOWN on confirmed symptoms prior.

While driving the car, the engine shut down in traffic, and the engine light came on . We took the vehicle in for a flow shut off valve issue (customer support program) and found out that the flow shut-off valve issue resulted in damage to the water pump. We were responsible for the replacement of the water pump, which the program did not cover.

I had to take my vehicle to Toyota bc it failed to start. There was an error code that of coolant issue error code and this was reported to the dealership they said that wasn’t the issue and my wires were chewed however I see that there actually is a history of issues with that incident and I wonder if I was given incorrect diagnosis from dealership this costed thousands of dollars from my insurance company and me to fix. The contact owns a 2018 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle lost motive power. There was a message displayed that the engine was off the instrument panel. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and continue driving. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, who was unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic, who diagnosed that there was a low-pressure fuel pump failure. The contact stated that the battery, alternator, and drive belt were replaced. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The vehicle was returned to the mechanic, who diagnosed that the low-pressure fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. I keep getting error code P0304 which says its cylinder 4 misfire the engine starts shaking a bit and most of the warning lights in my dashboard turn on and it disables the parking brake , I took it to a shop and they took out the fuel injectors to visualy inspect them and moved injector 4 to a different cylinder but the same error keeps coming back cylinder 4 misfire , I keep having to spend money and still have the same issue. It only does it on a cold start .

There was a recall in 2022 for the fuel pump. The fuel pump was replaced by a local dealership in North Charleston, South Carolina. In December, the engine light of my 2018 Toyota Camry came on. It was diagnosed that the fuel pump needs to be replaced. I have appointment scheduled for this Thursday, February 20 at the local dealership for them, too diagnose and replace.

multiple issues with radar sensors- disable parking assist, lane assist and rear traffic sensors due to constant malfunctioning - battery has been replaced twice within the past 6 months - vacuum pump for automatic break assist replaced APRIL 2024 - automatic brake assist failed while on vacation and car had to be driven without assisted breaks from New Orleans to Jackson MS for repair - car can only be driven in SPORT MODE otherwise there is concerning jerking and rough gear change and acceleration lag, this issue has been addressed since the date of purchase but no serious concerns expressed by maintenance professionals. About a month ago my daughter left the toyota dealership in Bradenton fl. after an oil change. She drove several hundred feet, the car stalled and she couldn't start it. The mechanic crew had to push it back into the service area, after been there for 2 days they found no problem, Just last Monday [XXX] she filled the car up at a gas station, as she was leaving the car stalled again and she couldn't start it, the car was towed back to same dealership, they could find a problem after being there another 2 days. On hot days, fuel vapor escapes from the gas tank's filler pipe and condenses and pools inside the fuel access door. The area around the car smells of gas. Sometimes it runs down the side of the car and drips on the ground. This has ruined the paint. We can't put the car in the garage because of the smell, and we are concerned that in an accident there could be a fire. We don't know what part has failed. Toyota installed an upgraded gas cap, but leak is still happening. The safety risks are breathing of gas fumes in and around the car, and the increased risk of fire in an accident. We kept a detailed log of the conditions under which this happens, and shared the log and also video recordings with Freeman Toyota near us in Santa Rosa California. We left the car with them for two hot days (XXX 2024) and they were able to reproduce the problem. The leakage is noticeable only in hot weather, so we first observed the problem in the summer of 2020. Additionally, the vehicle lost braking functionality with the brake pedal being depressed to the floorboard. Called the extended warranty and submitted the car to Firestone auto care. They ran a fuel system inspection and found leak. They removed and replaced the the fuel line and fuel pump. They said the can was at risk of catching fire and this is unusual

The contact owns a 2018 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that after shifting into park, the air condition system was activated, and the engine revved with the RPM elevated. The contact turned off the A/C and then turned off the vehicle. The vehicle was restarted, and the check engine warning light illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated that while the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle inadvertently accelerated at rapid speed then decelerated without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer however, the contact stated that no diagnostic test was performed due to the cost. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Since we bought the vehicle new in late 2018, in hot weather we sometimes see gas running down the side of the car below the filler pipe door, and a little puddle of gas on the rubber just inside the filler pipe door. We can't park the car in our garage because of the gas fumes, and we worry that in a collision, the underlying cause could make a fire more likely. We've had the car to the dealer service department and they can't find a cause. I know from a www search that other Camry owners have had the same problem. The dealership wants us to leave the car with them long enough for them to observe the problem, but we can't handle the financial risk of the service and the car rental while our car is at the garage being monitored for the problem. And of course it is a waste of time trying to get Toyota to take responsibility, which is why we're writing to you. The date entered in this submission is the first time we noticed it (it was the first hot weather since we bought the car).

The a25a-fks engine fails to idle properly and will stall at times due to a cylinder imbalance. ICS malfunction light comes on as well. This puts other people at risk because a vehicle stalling or malfunction of the Toyota Safety Sense system can lead to car accident. Vehicle was taken to two independent mechanics and couldn’t find the root of the problem. Was told to go to a Toyota Dealership. A Toyota dealership inspected the vehicle, done several tests, swapped computer modules and couldn’t find the cause. The dealership replaced fuel injectors, fuel pump and had done a cleaning on the intake and the vehicle still had the trouble code. 4K worth of work and the vehicle still persisted with the issue. What I first noticed from the car was an odd knocking noise when starting the car, followed by excessive white smoke at idle, parking sensors not working, the car improperly starting for the first time followed by a ICS Malfunction, blinking parking sensor icon and check engine light. Code: P219C. The dealership wants to charge me 10K to take the engine apart to either replace a faulty part (within the engine) or putting in a new engine all together. Several recalls for Toyota Camrys from 2018 and 2020 have sighted defects with the engine blocks causing white smoke and stalling. These recalls should be extended to more manufacturing months as this is a noticeable flaw.

Fuel\propulsion system, There was no power given to the engine when I turned a corner with an exorbitant amount of time. There was a car at least 100 yards away. For the past few months I have experienced a sudden loss of power while driving on the freeway and/or while attempting to accelerate. The car will stall, lose power, the engine will rev but not propel the car. I took my vehicle to the dealership twice before they acknowledged that there was an active recall and kept my vehicle for 2 months before calling me and telling me my car was fixed and returning it to me. I drove the car for about a month before it started doing the exact same thing and suddenly losing power as I was driving on the freeway. I took it back to the dealership and was told that the recall part they fixed (that took 2 months) was for safety recall #21TA09 "Sudden loss of power braking assist" and that the Toyota 2018-19 fuel pump defect recall #20TA02 announced in January of 2020 and ultimately effecting approximately 3.34 million vehicles did not apply to my specific VIN # even though it applies to the year, make, model and issue that I am having. This is a serious safety issue and I am gravely concerned about my own safety and that of any potential passengers I may have in my vehicle. I would like to know what criteria would be necessary to have equitable application of the recall extended to my vehicle (VIN #).
