Owner-reported complaints naming the airbag system, filed with NHTSA
Data refreshed
Airbags reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

I’m getting a message on my dashboard that SRS airbag system malfunction. Visit your dealer. I know there are recalls going on for this right now with American maid Toyotas, but I’m told mine isn’t because it was made in Japan. I do not have $1000 to go get this fixed. this is a safety issue because it says if in an accident, the passenger side airbag will not implode..

Crash reported
I am writing to formally report a serious safety concern regarding my vehicle’s airbag system following a recent accident. On April 22, 2026, I was involved in a significant collision while driving my Toyota Corolla 2022. The impact was severe enough that the other vehicle involved deployed its airbags. However, despite the force of the crash, the airbags in my vehicle did not deploy. I am extremely concerned that the airbag system may have failed to function as designed. Given that airbags are a critical safety feature intended to protect occupants in high-impact collisions, this raises serious questions about the reliability and safety of my vehicle.

On October 1st, 2025, I was in a car accident. I was side-swiped on the highway by a truck, which led me to collide with a metal fence. My airbags did not deploy after the collision. After filing a claim with my insurance company on October 1st, I was informed the same day that my vehicle is a total loss. Prior to the accident, there were no warning lamps or messages.

The contact's daughter owns a 2022 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving at highway speeds, she crashed into another vehicle as she approached sudden oncoming traffic. The air bags did not deploy upon impact. The contact was able to exit the vehicle and check on the other driver. A police report was filed. The contact was not offered medical attention at the scene and was able to drive the vehicle home. As her daughter was driving home, her boyfriend noticed that she began to stutter her words and instructed her to call the contact. The contact then instructed her to pull over and call for medical attention. She initially declined to go to the hospital due to her dog not being able to accompany her; however, the contact's daughter stated that she began to experience a tingling sensation down her left arm. Once at the hospital, her daughter was diagnosed with a severe concussion as the severe stuttering persisted. The contact's mother also noted that her personality has altered since the accident. The dealer nor the manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired for damages or investigated for the air bag failure. The failure mileage was unknown. The VIN was not available.
