1995 Toyota Pickup Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 1995 Toyota Pickup, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1995 TOYOTA PICKUP. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HIS VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V389000 STEERING LINKAGES, ROD RELAY CONNECTING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER BUT THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THEY COULD NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE SINCE THE IDLER ARM WAS STUCK WITHIN THE STEERING COLUMN. APPROXIMATELY FIVE YEARS LATER, THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO TURN THE LEFT TURN SIGNAL BUT IT WOULD NOT RESPOND. THE TURN SIGNAL WOULD NOT FUNCTION BECAUSE THE ALIGNMENT WITHIN THE STEERING COLUMN WAS NOT CORRECT. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 103,000.

I OWN A 1995 TOYOTA EXTENDED CAB PICKUP. IT IS A 2WD CAR, NO POWER STEERING. THERE IS A RECALL ON THE RELAY RODS FOR OTHER MODEL TOYOTA CARS COVERING MY YEAR BUT NOT FOR MY YEAR. RECENTLY, STEERING THE CAR BECAME UNSAFE (SOMEWHAT LOOSE). I JACKED THE CAR UP AND NOTICED THAT THE RELAY ROD WAS SEPARATING NEAR THE IDLER ARM. I TOOK DIGITAL PHOTOS. LOCAL DEALER EVENTUALLY PAID FOR THE RELAY ROD WORK AFTER CLAIMING IT, BUT WOULD NOT PAY FOR THE PARTS FOR THE IDLER ARM & STEERING DAMPER, WHICH ARE ASSOCIATED WITH THE RELAY ROD & WILL WEAR QUICKER WITH A RELAY ROD SEPARATING LIKE MINE WAS. I REQUEST THAT THE NHTSA PLEASE REVIEW THIS MATTER AND ASSIST IN HAVING THE FULL PARTS CLAIM PAID. HAD I NOT CAUGHT THE RELAY ROD FAILURE AT THE TIME I DID, I AM INFORMED BY A MECHANIC THAT I WOULD HAVE LOST ALL CONTROL OF THE CAR (CATASTROPHIC FAILURE). TOYOTA INITIALLY FULLY DENIED MY CLAIM AS NOT BEING PART OF THE 2005 RECALL, BUT DUE TO THE DEALERS ASSISTANCE THEY COVERED JUST THE PARTS & LABOR ON THE RELAY ROD. I CAN EMAIL THE DIGITAL PHOTOS OF THE FAILING RELAY ROD. HAD IT NOT BEEN CAUGHT & CHANGED I AM INFORMED IT WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE / LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL. *TR

DROVE TRUCK TO WORK. UPON PARKING NOTICED GASOLINE POURING OUT FROM UNDER VEHICLE. HAD TRUCK TOWED TO DEALER WHERE I WAS INFORMED THAT THE COMPONENT GOING INTO THE GAS TANK HAD RUSTED THROUGH. THIS TRUCK HAS HAD VERY LIMITED EXPOSURE TO SALT HERE IN TENNESSEE. I BOUGHT THE TRUCK NEW. ALSO I RECENTLY HAD TO REPLACE BOTH THE FRONT ROTORS DUE TO RUSTING. I FEEL THIS PRESENTS A REAL SAFETY HAZARD AND THAT TOYOTA SHOULD USE BETTER MATERIALS IN THEIR GAS LINES.*AK

THIS IS CONCERNING ANOTHER RUSTY TOYOTA TRUCK FRAME. MY TRUCK FRAME IS RUSTED COMPLETELY THROUGH WITH AT LEAST ONE HOLE THE SIZE OF A SOFTBALL. I SEE THAT THE 95.5 YEAR TRUCK WAS RECALLED WHY WASN'T MINE TOO? MINE IS A '95 MODEL SO I BARELY MISSED THE CUT OFF WHICH MAKES IT HURT ALL THE MORE. WHY WAS THE CUTOFF SET AFTER MY TRUCK? WHAT DETERMINED THE CUTOFF POINT? FROM WHAT I HAVE READ THERE ARE A LOT OF OLDER TOYOTA TRUCKS WITH FRAMES RUSTED COMPLETELY IN HALF AND MINE IS NOT FAR BEHIND THEM. MY TRUCK IS IN GOOD SHAPE EXCEPT OF COURSE FOR THE FRAME. THE BODY DOESN'T HAVE ANY HOLES ALTHOUGH THERE IS SOME RUST. I HAVE TAKEN CARE OF THIS TRUCK AND HAVE HAD IT ALMOST TEN YEARS AND WOULD CERTAINLY BE ABLE TO DRIVE IT QUITE A FEW MORE YEARS IF IT WASN'T ABOUT READY TO RUST IN HALF. IT'S NOT SAFE SO WHAT SHOULD I DO? CONTINUE TO DRIVE IT AND RISK MY LIFE AND THE LIVES OF OTHERS BECAUSE OF A DEFECT FROM TOYOTA? I DO BELIEVE THEY SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS AND MY TRUCK EITHER REPAIRED OR SOME COMPENSATION FOR ME. I WOULD THINK THE FRAME WOULD HAVE BEEN MADE OUT OF A HEAVIER GAUGE STEEL THAN THE BODY PANELS AND WELL OUT LASTED EVERY OTHER METAL PART ON THE TRUCK SEEING IT IS THE "BACKBONE" OF THE VEHICLE SO OBVIOUSLY THERE IS A PROBLEM THAT SHOULD BE A CONCERN OF YOUR AGENCY. *TR

THE VEHICLE HAD ONLY LIABILIY INSURANCE AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT, SO ALLSTATE PAID NO MONEY. A CLAIM WAS FILED THROUGH FIRESTONE. AFTER SENDING THE FAILED TIRE ALONG WITH PICTURES AND ESTIMATES OF THE VEHICLES (THERE WAS A MOTORCYCLE IN THE BED OF THE TRUCK AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT), FIRESTONE HAD SENT ME A REPLY BACK STATING THAT THE TIRES TREAD PEELED DUE TO AN IMPROPER REPAIR. THE ONLY REPAIR THAT I AM CURRENTLY AWARE OF WAS DONE ONLY DAYS BEFORE THE TIRE PEELED, LEAVING NO TIME FOR THE TREAD BREAKDOWN TO OCCUR. THE REPAIR WAS DONE AT A REPAIR SHOP. I CURRENTLY HAVE THE PEELED TREAD FROM THE TIRE AND FIRESTONE IS SENDING THE COMPLETE TIRE BACK TO ME IN THE NEAR FUTURE. *AK (DOT NUMBER: VD60AXC195 TIRESIZE: 31X10.5R15)
