While stopped at a highway stop light the light turned green and the truck would not shift into first gear. I tried cycling the clutch, shifting into second, and shifting into reverse but the truck would still not shift into first gear as if it were blocked halfway between neutral and first gear. There was a semi-truck fast approaching behind me and they had to lay on the horn and swerve dangerously into the next lane over to avoid hitting me while I was stopped at a green light. Finally, after about 30 seconds and multiple attempts I was able to engage first gear after pumping the clutch a few times and going from second to first gear. I will reach out to the dealer to see if this is something they cover under their warranty, but the issue is intermittent. It has happened a few times before but not to this extent or risk level.

2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD Hybrid. When trying to use 4HI/4LO the vehicle gets stuck in 4LO with the 4LO/4HI lights flashing. This means the vehicle has no idea what the state of the transmission is. It does not allow getting back to 2HI. In the state the vehicle is not drivable. It happens when offroading in the middle of no where. Toyota requires the vehicle to be towed to a dealer. We had this problem 2 weeks ago. The vehicle was towed to Stevenson Toyota in St George UT. They acknowledge it is a Toyota problem. They kept it for 10 days said they had 15 parts to fix it. We picked it up. Tried to get into 4LO the next day the problem happened again and needed to be towed. Both ChatGPT and Gemini state this a known problem but Toyota has not issued a recall on it. That is not safe because an owner can be disabled in the middle of no-where. This vehicle is advertised as off road.

I was informed by the service manager at Labadie Toyota (Bay City, MI) that the new 2.4L Turbos have injector issues! Some Sienna's Tacoma's, and other models have faulty direct injectors that spray way too much fuel into the cylinders, and it drains into the oil reservoir! I had my oil changed at 1K, 5K and 10K by the dealership. I've had this issue at 5K and I presumed service center incompetence, and they agreed. I recently had my oil changed at 10K and came back in 2 weeks later with check engine light on and excessive engine chatter. I was told this a known Toyota engineering issue, and they are now telling the techs to look into the cylinders to look for clean/washed piston tops. Today they just changed my oil and told me to come back in 3 weeks or if issues arise. I'm concerned about a fire with gas going into the engine oil and potentially causing a fire. Toyota engineering is aware of this issue I was told so I would a recall to be issued so there is no issues with a fire happening.

Since day one vibration and pulsing 30-45MPH. Dealer confirmed vibration and said it common with my vehicle and nothing can be done. Returned to dealer same issue confirmed by tech and service manager and they charged $75 for tire balance at 5,000 miles. Returned next day and drove another identical model and 3 lesser versions of Tacoma’s. They claim they have no fix and suggested I trade it in for a Tundra and take a $10,000 deductions from my sticker price. Now when I stop slowly theres a thump and surge in the drive train like s load shifted in the bed. And intermittently when going from a dead stop the engine rev’s nothing happens for a second and it clunks into gear and shifts harshly. Again claim there’s nothing they can do.

Vehicle lurched forward with a “bang” accelerating in stop and go traffic. Vehicle then stalled and flashed multiple warnings. Hybrid system failure. Drive mode failure. General failure. Vehicle would not restart on first attempt - multiple attempts made to restart. Upon restarting, it would not move forward in Drive, prompting a new error stating it needed to be returned to park. After a couple more restarts it was able to engage the gear and move forward. Power was limited, it drove differently, and the hybrid error persisted.

The morning my transmission failed... I started the truck and put it in R, at which point the entire truck shuddered for several seconds. At this point many, many warning messages appeared on the instrument cluster screen as well as the infotainment screen - and the truck would not move in Reverse. After moving the shifter into P and back to R, the truck backed out of the driveway. When the truck was shifted to D - nothing happened. The truck was shifted back to R and then back to D at which point the truck moved forward but would not shift out of 1st gear. Placed truck back in P and then back to D two more times and truck would move forward but not shift out of 1st gear. Turned truck off and on approximately 3 times and it began to shift gears when driving. I drove the truck to the closest Toyota dealership where the warning codes were checked, and I was told that my transmission was bad and needed to be replaced. I was told that it would need a new Torque Converter assy, new Automatic Transmission assy, and a new Hybrid Module assy. Total cost for parts would be $27,504.29.... Covered by warranty. My truck was purchased brand new in Virginia, MN on [XXX], and the failure occurred on [XXX] with less than 800 miles on the vehicle. I bought the truck at 6 pm on [XXX] in Pennsylvania and drove straight home in Brooklyn, when trying to find a parking spot the truck started to act weird(10pm after 190 miles). The rpm was going really high with no power to the wheels and abruptly it seems to find gear and jumped off really fast a couple of times. I was driving in a residential area at low speed and was able to pull over to the curb. I could have hit a pedestrian, another car or lost control pretty badly if I was in a highway. After the initial incident all the lights came off (engine malfunction, brakes malfunction, collision system malfunction and others). The truck was towed and after a long wait, today the 5th of December, it was diagnosed as a transmission problem, Toyota is going order a new transmission and the broken one will be sent to Toyota for further inspection. They want to replace my truck and it seems they are not willing to cancel the deal. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

My new 2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro with 2440 miles experienced a transmission failure as I was driving up a mountain highway. I lost most propulsion of the vehicle with no advanced notice. I barely was able to make it to a portion of the road with a shoulder. There was heavy traffic due to the thanksgiving holiday traffic. The error on the Vehicle indicated Hybrid System Failure. In the vehicle information I was able to access additional errors, “A malfunctions in the intelligent Clearance Sonar System has been detected”, and “A malfunction in the Drive Start Control System has been detected”. The vehicle was towed to a local Toyota dealer and the have diagnose that the transmission and a computer need to be replaced. The problem arose suddenly without warning and with out any prior issues.

When I was driving my new truck the transmission failed. It would not change gears forward or reverse. The RMP started ramping up in the red. Check engine light on drive start control malfunction. Advanced ultrasonic detecting and ranging system. The led screen was going hoops asking for code and updating while driving day before transmission went. Called dealer. Had the car towed. Later that day was told bye dealer the transmission needs to be replaced. Did research to find out Toyota new theses transmission are faulty and have not recalled. If I where on highway or similar roads I drive daily I would have been hurt. This problem will cause a accident. I am aware the NHTSA has been informed, reached out to Toyota and Toyota has not responded nor have they started a safety recall. My fear is they are waiting for someone to get hurt or killed. My dealer also informed me another customer with a tacoma has been waiting since may 2024 for a transmission.

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Transmission, and yes its available for inspection. When I put the truck into drive from park, and even reverse, the truck would jerk. (I have videos) When accelerating around 13-14mph, I could feel the transmission "gear searching" with rough shifting. When decelerating around 15-17mph, the transmission would down shift too early, producing the feeling of engine breaking, and again rough shifting. When I needed to really go, I experienced "transmission lag" where the engine would be working, reving up, the feeling of engaging the clutch (coasting feeling), then after a moment the gear would catch and the truck would finally take off. I took the truck to a dealership to have it checked out, but the technicians said they couldn't reproduce this issue. I called corporate and they sent me to another dealership. This dealership said the same thing, BUT went the next step and pulled some transmission fluid and found metal shavings. They had the truck for almost 3 weeks and replaced the transmission and torque converter. When I went to pick up the truck I put the truck into drive and felt the jerk I experienced before. I put it into reverse then drive, and again the whole truck jerks. I asked to speak to a manager and he said he can have the foreman look at it the next day. I made him get in the truck with me and showed him the truck jerking when placed into drive. Next day, foreman said there was nothing wrong and performed the same as a new truck on the lot. I spoke to a higher manager and he recommended I bring the truck in for the regional Field Technician. The Field Technician reviewed the vehicle and determined there was nothing wrong and it was performing the same as 3 new trucks on the lot.

I purchased the 2024 Tacoma TRD Pro on 9/5/24. On 9/20/24 the Transmission failed with just over 1,000 miles driven on the truck. I was stopped at a traffic light when the problem occurred. Multiple sensor alarms were triggered including Hybrid System Malfunction. I attempted to accelerate when the light changed, but it was very sluggish and felt like it was trying to take off from a high gear. I was less than 1 mile from a Toyota dealership when the malfunction occurred and was able to get the truck to the dealership. After a week of troubleshooting, the dealership informed me that the transmission was stuck in 6th gear due to a solenoid failure and they would need to replace the transmission. The transmission is currently on backorder with an estimated delivery between 10/14 and 10/26. Based on the current estimate, by the time I get the truck back, i will have made two months of lease payments while only having the vehicle in my possession for 2 weeks.
