Complaints grouped by the component NHTSA recorded
Percentages are of component mentions. A single complaint can name more than one component, so these do not sum to the total complaint count.
No recalls in our database for this model year
That does not guarantee a specific vehicle is unaffected — recalls are issued against VINs, and new campaigns are announced regularly. Check a VIN on NHTSA.gov.

1994 TOYOTA TRUCK, BROUGHT IN FOR INSPECTION AND TO FIX BLOWN HEAD GASKET. TRUCK IS UN-SERVICEABLE BECAUSE OF FRAME ROT. IT CANNOT PASS INSPECTION, OR BE REGISTERED. THIS IS THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE 1995 TOYOTA TRUCKS. TOYOTA SHOULD COVER THE 1994 FOR THE SAME ISSUE. THE FRAMES ARE THE EXACT SAME. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1994 TOYOTA TRUCK. THE CONTACT OBSERVED THAT THE REAR DRIVER SIDE OF THE FRAME COMPLETELY RUSTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL PERTAINING TO THE ENTIRE FRAME REPLACEMENT FOR MODEL YEAR VEHICLES 1995-2010. THE CONTACT REQUESTED THAT THE MANUFACTURER SELL THE PART AT COST, AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO PROVIDE FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
I HAVE A 1994 TOYOTA TRUCK,4X4,4CYL,5SPD. . THE FRAME IS TOTALLY RUSTED FROM BEHIND THE GAS TANK(WHICH IS UNNOTICABLE UNLESS GAS TANK IS REMOVED)TO THE REAR BUMPER. THE EXHAUST AND DRIVERS REAR SIDE OF THE FRAME HAS RUSTED AS WELL. IM EACH YEAR REPLACING THE EXHAUST DUE TO RUST. THE FRAME HAS HAD A PATCH WELDED TO IT THAT I WAS UNAWARE OF UNTIL I HAD A MECHANIC DO REPAIRS TO IT. EACH MECHANIC I HAVE TAKEN IT TOO, SAYS THE RECALL FOR THE TOYOTA FRAME RUST SHOULD HAVE GONE BACK TO 1994,AS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM HE HAS SEEN WITH THIS YEAR AS WELL. THEY ALL STATED IT WAS A PROBLEM WHEN MANUFACTURED. *TR
WHILE RUNNING ERRANDS DIRECTLY AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE SERVICED FOR A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYING ON FOR PREVIOUS FOUR DAYS, THE ENGINE STUTTERED, THEN WOULD NOT START AFTER HAVING BEEN OFF FOR A FEW MINUTES. THE SERVICE PERFORMED HAD FOUND THAT THE EGR VALVE WAS FAULTY, AND A NEW ONE INSTALLED, BUT THE SUBSEQUENT SYMPTOMS WERE NOT RELATED TO THE EGR AT ALL. ENGINE WOULD NOT TURN OVER, BUT COULD BE ROTATED COUNTER-CLOCKWISE MANUALLY. WHEN ROTATED CLOCKWISE, IT WOULD ONLY GO AS FAR AS IT HAD BEEN WHEN STOPPED. HAVING HAD THE WATERPUMP REPLACED A MONTH BEFORE, THE TIMING BELT OR OTHER COMPONENTS WERE SUSPECT. TIMING BELT HAD BEEN REPLACED 14 MONTHS BEFORE, BUT IT MAY HAVE BEEN SOFTENED BY THE COOLANT FROM THE FAILED WATERPUMP. ON INVESTIGATION BY DEALER, THE TIMING BELT COMPARTMENT WAS IN SATISFACTORY CONDITION, BUT COOLANT WAS FOUND IN THE OIL, AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS NON-COMPRESSIBLE LIQUID IN AT LEAST ONE COMBUSTION CHAMBER. INDICATIONS WERE A BLOWN HEAD GASKET. HEAD GASKETS HAD BEEN REPLACED DURING FACTORY RECALL IN 1998, WITH ABOUT 75,000 MILES ON VEHICLE. AT TIME OF THIS FAILURE, VEHICLE HAD ABOUT 100,000 ADDITIONAL MILES SINCE THE HEAD GASKETS HAD BEEN REPLACED. VEHICLE SOLD FOR MUCH LESS THAN MARKET VALUE, DUE TO NEEDING MAJOR ENGINE WORK/REPLACEMENT. *TR
INTERMITTENT LOUD NOISE FROM STEERING WHEN TURNING THE VEHICLE. I FOUND RECALL 05V389000 FOR A STEERING RELAY ROD PROBLEM WITH VEHICLE AND CONTACTED TOYOTA A T 1-800-331-4331 ABOUT THE RECALL IN DECEMBER 2006. TOYOTA ADVISED ME THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN. PROBLEM CONTINUED UNTIL I HAD THE VEHICLE SERVICED BY MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP IN JUNE 2007. THE DEALERSHIP ADVISED THE STEERING RELAY ROD WAS CRACKED AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. ACCORDING TO THE INVOICE THE PART REPLACED WAS 45450-39175. THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE DEALERSHIP WAS INFORMED OF THE RECALL, AND HE ADVISED THAT THE PART THEY REPLACED WAS THE SAME PART INVOLVED IN THE RECALL. I DID NOT KNOW IF THE DEALERSHIP STILL HAS THE OLD PART. I CONTACTED TOYOTA AGAIN ON 6/18/2007 AT THE TOLL FREE # ABOVE AND WAS ADVISED THAT PART #45450-39175 WAS NOT THE PART INCLUDED IN RECALL 05V389000; HOWEVER, THEIR REPRESENTATIVE WOULD NOT PROVIDE ME WITH THE PART # OF THE STEERING RELAY ROD INVOLVED IN THE RECALL. *AK

They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
