The defect: ON CERTAIN TRAILERS, DURING MANUFACTURE, SOME OF THE PIPE FITTINGS WERE DRILLED TOO DEEP, RESULTING IN A THIN WALL IN THE MALE PIPE THREAD. THE MALE PIPE THREAD MAY BREAK OFF DURING OR AFTER ASSEMBLY.
The risk: IF THE FITTING FAILS WHILE IN USE, THE AIR BRAKE SYSTEM COULD DEPRESSURIZE, CAUSING THE BRAKES TO ENGAGE SUDDENLY, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A VEHICLE CRASH.
The remedy: TRAIL KING IS WORKING WITH BRASSCRAFT TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE FITTING FREE OF CHARGE (PLEASE SEE 06E082). THE RECALL BEGAN ON OCTOBER 19, 2006. OWNERS MAY CONTACT BRASSCRAFT AT 248-305-6000 OR TRAIL KING AT 1-800-762-5557.

The defect: ON CERTAIN DUMP TRAILERS EQUIPPED WITH FIFTH WHEEL PLATES, CRACKS ARE VISIBLE IN THE PLATE LOCATED AROUND THE HOIST MOUNTS AND KING PIN.
The risk: THIS COULD CAUSE FAILURE OF THE TRAILER AND RESULT IN A CRASH.
The remedy: DEALERS WILL EITHER PROVIDE A GUSSET, FREE OF CHARGE, OR REPLACE THE PLATE. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN JANUARY 8, 2004. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT TRAIL KING AT 1-800-545-1549.

I LEFT HOUSTON WITH A NEW CAMPING TRAILER ON ITS FIRST TRIP TO A NASCAR RACE IN FT. WORTH TEXAS IN APRIL. WITH LESS THAN 300 MILES ON THE TIRES I HAD MY FIRST BLOWOUT (DRIVER REAR) ON THE TRAILER. CHECKLIST WAS COMPLETED BEFORE TRIP STARTED. TIRE PRESSURE, COMPARTMENT DOORS. ECT. UPON INSPECTION IT WAS NOTED THAT TREAD HAS SEPARATED AROUND THE TIRE AND A 3" HOLE WITH CORD WAS STICKING OUT. THE TIRE EXPLODED LOUD ENOUGH FOR ME AND MY DAUGHTER TO HEAR WITH WINDOWS UP AND RADIO CD PLAYING. NOTE I DRIVE A FORD F-350 DIESEL ALSO. DISCOUNT TIRE CALL CARLISLE AND INFORMED ME THAT THEY WOULD PRO-RATE THE TIRE UPON REPLACEMENT. DIDN'T THINK MUCH ABOUT IT. SO THE 225/75/R15 TIRE WAS REPLACED. SECOND TRIP IN SEPTEMBER RUNNING AWAY FROM HURRICANE RITA MY SECOND BLOWOUT WITH LESS THAN 1000 MILES ON THE TRAILER. I ALMOST LOST MY LIFE CHANGING THE TIRE WITH PEOPLE LEAVING HOUSTON WITH THEIR OWN FLIGHT FROM RITA. AIR PRESSURE CHECKED ALONG WITH A VISUAL INSPECTION. I TRULY FEEL THAT THESE TIRES ARE OVER RATED AND ARE TOO LIGHT FOR THE 5TH WHEEL SERVICE. I ALSO FEEL THAT SOMEONE WILL BECOME INJURED/DIE BECAUSE NOTHING IS BEING DONE TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. I HOPE TO RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM BY UPGRADING THE TIRES WITH A HEAVER SIDEWALL SUCH AS A 10 PLY TYPE OF TIRE. *NM
