The defect: TRANS/AIR COMPRESSOR MOUNT KITS, PART NOS. 4012120-01, 4012120-02, AND 4012120-03, MANUFACTURED BETWEEN SEPTEMBER 1, 2002, AND MARCH 3, 2003. THE MOUNTS IN QUESTION ARE ONLY INSTALLED IN 2003 FORD VEHICLES WITH A 7.3L ENGINE. THESE COMPRESSOR MOUNT KITS CONTAIN A BELT GUARD THAT SHOULD NOT BE USED ON A 2003 MODEL YEAR VEHICLE. THERE MAY BE CONTACT BETWEEN THE BELT GUARD AND THE BRAKE LINE. THIS CONTACT, IF SEVERE ENOUGH, COULD RUD THROUGH THE BRAKE LINE RESULTING IN REDUCED BRAKING CAPACITY.
The risk: THIS CONDITION COULD HAPPEN WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN A VEHICLE CRASH.
The remedy: TRANS/AIR WILL NOTIFY ITS CUSTOMERS AND REMOVE THE BELT GUARD. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN JANUARY 23, 2003. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT TRANS/AIR WARRANTY DEPARTMENT AT 1-800-673-2446 EXT. 268.
