The defect: VAN-CON HAS NOTIFIED NHTSA OF A DEFECT IN CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2008-2009 HANDICAP SCHOOL BUSES BUILT ON FORD AND CHEVY CHASSIS, FITTED WITH RICON PUBLIC USE LIFTS. THE RESTRAINT BELT ON THESE LIFTS WAS DESIGNED TO PREVENT THE LIFT FROM MOVING, UNLESS THE TONGUE OF THE BELT IS FULLY ENGAGED AND LATCHED IN THE BUCKLE. RICON HAS DISCOVERED, HOWEVER, THAT IT IS POSSIBLE FOR THE OPERATOR TO INSERT THE BELT TONGUE INTO THE BUCKLE WITHOUT FULLY ENGAGING THE LATCHING MECHANISM. IN THIS CASE, THE RESTRAINT BELT WOULD APPEAR TO BE LATCHED, AND THE OPERATOR COULD RUN THE LIFT. IF THE RESTRAINT BELT TONGUE IS NOT FULLY ENGAGED INTO THE RESTRAINT BELT BUCKLE, AND LATCHED, THE LIFT MAY OPERATE WITH AN OCCUPANT ON THE PLATFORM.
The risk: THE USER OF THE LIFT COULD BE INJURED SHOULD THE LIFT MOVE WITHOUT THE RESTRAINT BELT PROPERLY BUCKLED.
The remedy: VAN-CON IS WORKING WITH RICON AND RICON WILL BE HANDLING THE REMEDY FOR THIS CAMPAIGN. PLEASE SEE RICON'S DEFECT REPORT 09E-060. RICON WILL PROVIDE CUSTOMERS WITH A WARNING DECAL AND A DVD-BASED TRAINING AID. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON APRIL 5, 2010. TAKATA RECALL IT HAS NOT YET DONE ANYTHING BUT I AM JUST NOW FINDING OUT TO MY KNOWLEDGE MY VEHICLE HAS A TAKATA AIRBAG AND THE REVIEWS HAVE NOT BEEN POSITIVE I AM TERRIFIED TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE ANYWHERE WITH MY 8 MONTH OLD ALSO BEING PREGNANT WITH THE SECOND ONE ANYWHERE BECAUSE OF THIS RECALL. I NEED THIS FIXED AND OR TAKEN CARE OF ASAP.

I STILL HAVE A 2008 CHEVY SILVERADO AND ITS BEEN OVER A YEAR AND THE RECALL HASN'T BEEN FIXED. WHY ISN'T NO ONE DOING ANYTHING TO FIX THE PROBLEM. HOW I AM SUPPOSE TO FEE CONFIDENT DRIVING MY TRUCK ESPECIALLY WITH THE 9 YEAR SON IN IT. I HAVE BEEN A LIFELONG GM CUSTOMER, AND WILL HATE TO BE FORCED TO GO FOREIGN AS MANY DO.TAKATA HAS NOT OWNED UP TO RESPONSIBILITY AND THERE HAS BEEN NO RESOLUTION OR COMPENSATION. WHEN CAN SOMEONE FIX THIS ISSUE????????????

I WAS DRIVING STRAIGHT AT AROUND 40MPH ON A FOUR LANE ROAD WHEN I HEARD A LOUD BANG SIMILAR TO A GUN SHOT. SMOKE FILLED THE CABIN AND THE SEAT BELT LOCKED LOCKED UP CAUSING A CUT TO MY NECK. THE PASSENGERS SEAT BELT ALSO LOCKED UP. FORTUNATELY, MY WIFE WAS SITTING IN THE MIDDLE AND OUR TWO AND FOUR YEAR OLD DAUGHTERS WERE IN THE BACK IN THEIR CAR SEATS. I DID NOT HIT ANYTHING WITH THE TRUCK AND WE DID NOT GO OVER A SPEED BUMP OR HIT A POT HOLE. I DID NOT SLAM THE BRAKES. IT WAS A CLEAR, SUNNY DAY AND THE SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER BASICALLY EXPLODED FOR NO APPARENT REASON. TRUCK IS AT BEATY CHEVROLET NOW WHERE THEY'RE SAYING THAT ITS A 2008 AND OUT OF WARRANTY AND ALMOST $1900 TO REPAIR! SHOULDN'T THE MANUFACTURER BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPLACING DEFECTIVE SAFETY EQUIPMENT THAT COULD CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY OR CAUSE THE DRIVER TO GET IN ACCIDENTS? THEY SAID THEY WOULD HAVE TO CALL THE MANUFACTURER ON MONDAY TO SEE IF THEY WOULD COVER THE REPAIR.
