What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2007 Vespa GTS 250, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Each component in detail
What the reports in each category say, in the owners' own words
Fuel system
Reports naming fuel storage or delivery — tanks, pumps, lines, injectors and fuel leaks.
From owner reports, verbatim
FUEL PUMP STOPS PUMPING, AND SCOOTER DIES. THEN YOU JUST WAIT AND WAIT UNTIL THE PUMP FINALLY SPINS UP AGAIN, THEN HOPE IT WILL PUMP LONG ENOUGH TO GET YOU HOME. IT IS A ROLL OF THE DICE, IF IT WILL RUN OR NOT RUN AT ANY GIVEN TIME. THERE IS A RECALL (15V066000) ON THE 2008 AND UP MODELS. MINE IS A 07 AND IS DOING THE SAME THING THAT THE OTHERS WERE RECALLED FOR. I DON'T WANT TO GET KILLED ON THIS WHEN IT STOPS WHILE YOU ARE IN TRAFFIC.
RECENTLY BROUGHT 2007 VESPA GTS 250 WITH 550 MILES HAD IT FOR ABOUT 2 WEEKS, USED IT ABOUT 3 TIMES AROUND THE BLOCK AND FUEL PUMP FAILED ... NOT SO COOL HAD TO PUSH BACK HOME... LOOKING ONLINE I SEE A FEW PEOPLE WITH SIMILAR PROBLEM....I THING ITS ABOUT $200 FOR A NEW PUMP WILL VESPA COVER IT ? *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 PIAGGIO VESPA GTS 250 SCOOTER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE SEAT AND FELT AN INCREASE OF HEAT ON BOTH OF HIS LEGS. THE CONTACT SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE BUT WAS UNABLE TO RESTART. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC. THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE ELECTRICAL HARNESS WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000.

From owner reports, verbatim
MY SON WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT RIDING UPON A VESPA. AT THE TIME HE REPORTED THAT IT 'TOOK OFF ON IT'S OWN AND HE COULD NOT STOP IT'. FRANKLY WE THOUGHT THAT HE WAS TRYING TO EXPLAIN BAD DRIVING OR SOMETHING OF THE SORT. WHEN WE WENT TO EXAMINE THE SCOOTER TO ESTIMATE REPAIRS WE HAD THE SAME THING HAPPEN WITH THE SCOOTER AND THE CENTER STAND. WE CURRENTLY HAVE THE SCOOTER IN OUR POSSESSION AND THE DEFECT SHOULD BE REPEATABLE. WE HAVE NOTIFIED PIAGGIO OVER A WEEK AGO AND THEY HAVE NOT CONTACTED US. *TR

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
