Complaints on fileComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

The vehicle exhibits a severe, structural inability to retain its factory suspension and steering alignment specifications under normal driving conditions, creating a severe tire blowout and safety hazard. At approximately 8,400 miles (January 2025), the dealership documented that the alignment was heavily out of specification. At approximately 9,400 miles (February 2025), a certified third-party shop corrected the vehicle back to perfect factory specifications. Less than 9,700 miles of standard city driving later, at approximately 19,100 miles (May 2026), a dealer inspection revealed the vehicle's alignment geometry had completely shifted out of specification across three separate wheels (Right Front Toe, Right Rear Camber, Left Rear Toe). This rapid alignment failure dynamically scrubbed the front steering tires completely bald down to the internal metal structural cords/threads, creating an immediate, severe safety hazard on the road. The vehicle's inability to hold standard parameters points to a defective suspension tracking design or components incapable of supporting the vehicle load. The dealership refused to cover this mechanical failure under warranty, forcing an out-of-pocket tire replacement expense. A formal corporate escalation case has been opened with the manufacturer.

See attached document for complaint. I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding serious delays and lack of communication surro ding a safety recall repair for my VinFast vehicle. I received an Important Safety Recall Notice from VinFast Auto LLC regarding Recall Notice VPAC 379 / NHTSA Recall No. 25V559, involving a software update to address issues with the Lane Keeping Assist {LKA) system. The notice states that this update should take approximately five (5) hours to complete. Despite this, I have been waiting for over three months to obtain an appointment for this recall service. When I went to the dealership today to drop off my vehicle, the staff could not provide any estimated timeframe for how long the repair would take. This is especially conce, ning because during a previous visit, my vehicle remained at the dealership for nearly one month. When I asked the employee how long the recall update would take, I was told they would not know until they began the software update process. I was also informed that once the update starts, it cannot be stopped. This was not communicated to me in advance, and I was left without any clear plan for transportation or support.I had to leave because I need to pickup my kids from school. I cannot find any appointments now? I asked how I was expected to get home or whether alternate transportation such as an Uber or loaner vehicle would be provided, and I was told that there was nothing they could do. I find it unacceptable that after waiting months for a safety recall repair-one that the manufacturer estimates at only five hours-the dealership is unable to provide a reasonable timeline or any assistance for customers who depend on their vehicles for daily transportation. I respectfully request that NHTSA review this matter, as consumers should not face excessive delays, unclear repair timeframes, or lack of transportation support when attempting to comply with an important safety recall. Thank you for your attention to this issue.

While driving at approximately 8:00 AM in active traffic, the vehicle suddenly would not accelerate beyond approximately 20 mph. Warning messages appeared on the dashboard stating “Electric Motor Power Reduced” and “Driver Monitoring System Inoperative.” The vehicle lost normal propulsion power without warning. This occurred in the middle of the roadway and created a serious safety hazard, as I was unable to maintain the speed of surrounding traffic. Vehicles behind me had to slow abruptly, increasing the risk of a rear-end collision. The vehicle is currently under warranty and has been taken to the repair facility multiple times, including for prior safety-related concerns. The most recent repair visit involves diagnostics and/or a software update; however, the root cause has not been clearly explained, and the safety of the vehicle has not been formally confirmed in writing. Given that this incident involved sudden loss of propulsion in traffic, I am concerned about the reliability and safety of the vehicle.

I have had nothing but brake and suspension problems with my 2023 Vinfast VF8. The vehicle has been to the dealer on three occasions because of brake and suspension noises which prompted the dealer to replace the entire suspension system. However, my concern is with the vehicle's brakes. Under low speed turning with no brakes applied, the vehicle made a metal on metal grinding noise. The vehicle was in the dealer twice for this problem. The first time they put updated brake pads on the vehicle and let me know that the original pads were too thick. The problem continued and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer a little over two weeks ago for the same problem. This time they sanded the surface of the brake pads to avoid them from rubbing against the rotar. The tech at the dealer told me that he beleives the issue may be that the brake caliper does not open wide enough to allow the pad distance from the caliper. Their solution is to sand the pad down. One, is this safe, and two, what happens when the car needs new brake pads, is the dealer going to cover the cost to continually shave the pads down for the life of the vehicle.

The contact owned a 2023 Vinfast VF8. The contact stated that while driving at 35 MPH, another vehicle driving on the opposite side of the road aggressively proceeded into the front passenger side, causing a t t-boned collision. The impact caused the other vehicle to be pushed back to the opposite side of the road. The contact's vehicle then veered to the right and crashed into two more vehicles that were parked. The vehicle then came to a stop after the crash. No warning lights illuminated. The driver’s and passenger’s side air bags did not deploy. There was no property damage. A police report was filed. The contact sustained injuries to his hand, neck, and back, and his 2 children sustained general body pain. The contact and his children were still visiting the doctor for treatment. Injuries to the other vehicles were unknown. The vehicle was towed to a collision center, where the vehicle was deemed destroyed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The dealer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 3,391.

VinFast stated an update is all is needed and the problem still is occurring. This car is dangerous. One example of this is the Pleasanton California incident.

I purchased my Vinfast VF8 in March 2023 as one of the first to be delivered. Unfortunately, on the first day of receiving the car, I encountered some issues. The fault sensors went off repeatedly, particularly during a rainy day. The car currently has 9600 miles on it, and it has been driven from San Diego to Irvine around 3-4 times to be serviced for issues associated with the functionality of the VF8, with one of those trips being to a repair facility in San Francisco. Issues that have been addressed include software updates, blank driving screen which occurred on three occasions repaired with a nationwide recall repair, brake repairs, AC replacement, sensor malfunctions, and hood latch issues. Records of these services have been diligently maintained as evidence of the necessary repairs. The next service appointment has been scheduled for September 2024, as it was the earliest available slot when the appointment was made in July. One recurring issue I've experienced is with the lane keep assist, which has been continuously faulty and almost caused several accidents while on the freeway. I brought this issue up to my service technician, who informed me that other Vinfast VF8 owners have reported similar problems. While the technician explained that the issue with the system is its sensitivity, I have found it necessary to turn the feature off before I start driving, to avoid close calls. Additionally, the car's front bumper has paint defects on the corners closest to the fenders, on both sides. On two separate occasions, the car turned off while I was driving and displayed sensor faults. I have documented the last incident with my cell phone as proof. During that occurrence, it took over 45 minutes to an hour to get the car restarted and I had to call a tow truck through Vinfast. The vehicle has been serviced more than expected for a new car with such low mileage, both in Irvine and San Francisco.

While driving this vehicle, the steering would take control and pull me to another lane at times. While turning or merging into another lane, it would auto correct and steer me into the lane I’m not steering into causing me from losing control of which direction I’m going into. A hard pull of the steering wheel would try to auto correct. Car automatically turned off on me while on the freeway losing power to the whole car. They said an update to the car is all is needed. This car is unsafe and needs to be recalled from the road before another injury occurs.

The lane assist feature repeatedly comes on randomly and has almost caused several accidents while I was driving. Specifically, I was driving on the freeway today in moderate traffic and the emergency lane assist warning flashes on and the car begins to jerk the steering wheel. It caused me to try to correct this and almost caused my hitting the car next to me. There are warning lights that repeatedly just come on without there actually being an issue. The roll back feature works randomly and has almost caused me to hit the car behind me. I have had Vinfats out to my house three times already regarding problems with the software, safety issues, and inability for the car to come on at all.

Lane keep assist will intermittently trigger while driving straight. After having this happen several times, I now disable the option at the start of every drive. Lane keep assist module will trigger a fault and restart mid drive despite being turned off prior to driving. This is in a drive by wire vehicle in which there is no direct connection between the physical wheels and the steering wheels. This has happened 3 times to me, and once to my wife. It has happened on my neighborhood streets going less than 20 mph, and it has happened on highways going 65 mph. The modules on the vehicle will intermittently, but frequently fail. The notification of various modules failing only appears on the center console screen and lasts for less than .5 second. There is no log available to the owner/consumer for prior failures if the system is able to "recover". The only way that I was able to discover this behavior by the lane keep assist module is because 2 systems had failures, then cleared and the "feature" was suddenly active in the middle of a drive. I do not know what the first system that failed was, by the time I looked down it have changed to the lane keep assist module. The vehicle has aprox. 6000 total miles on it as of the most recent incident. All other incidents happened prior to that mileage. Vinfast customer service is happy to take reports and tell me that their vehicle service department will get in touch with me. There have been no attempts to contact me by the vehicle service department, and the company does not allow customers to directly contact the vehicle service department.

Vehicle drive system fault: This issue has happened to me 2x in my personal car and 1x in the loaner vehicle that Vinfast gave me. When this happens, the vehicle shuts off. You can’t put the car in drive or reverse. You have to leave the car, wherever it is, walk a good distance away& wait for about 15mins. The first time, I was pulling into a spot at a grocery store & and car died in the middle of the aisle. I was blocking all traffic. Luckily after 4 mins the car was able to go into N and I got pushed into a parking spot. The second time was with the loaner car, I started to back up and the car died. This time, I had to walk in the rain to a store down the street and wait for the car to “disconnect from the key fob” and wait 15 mins. The third time I was in my personal car and I was moving. I slowed down to make a turn and the car slammed on the brakes and died. For me, this is a huge safety issue. I’ve been driving for over 25, had many cars and never had issues like this. I’m not always in a safe location where I can get out and leave the vehicle. Also, ever time I get into this car there is a new error message, for example. The AES system turns off when facing the sun . I’ve reported all of this and documented everything. I feel unsafe in this car. The dealer said “ the driver fault will happen when you put it in gear too fast”. I’ve driving like this for 25 years and I’ve never had a car turn or and leave me stranded. I don’t trust this vehicle

While I was driving to work, the car started to lose power all of the sudden; I had to exit the freeway, as soon as I was off the highway, the car no longer moved. I called customer service they indicated that I should try to reset the car (which I did) and was able to drive the car again but with a lot of warning signs. I think it is a safety concern because I could hit or get hit by another car while trying to pull over. Customer Service told me to expect a call from the Service Center but at this date they haven't call me yet.

I was driving on the Highway and when I stopped at a red light the vehicle stopped working. I was not able to put it in neutral to be able to move it to the side of the road. I had several warning messages while i was on the phone with 911. I was lucky enough that police came to assist me within minutes since I was at an intersection of two highways. I could've been killed or caused a bad accident. I called Vinfast to check the problem and they never transfer me to the service department. I explained the problem and they just told me that if it happens again they will consider it. But since the vehicle restarted after 20 minutes there was no reason to check it. I asked to talk to a supervisor but the customer service representative refused. She just told me that she was making a note about it. This was a very dangerous situation. My life and the life of others were at risk. I have pictures and short videos showing the car in the middle of the highway and there is a call made to the 911. Thank you
