2017 Volkswagen Golf Problems

In December 2021, my fuel gauge read empty, so I stopped at a gas station near the Honolulu Airport and VW Honolulu dealership. As I was pumping the gasoline, it began overflowing from the top of the tank, although I had just started pumping. I immediately removed the pump which is when gas began leaking out of the bottom of the tank, like a faucet. Luckily, I was right by the dealership, and was able to make it there without anything dangerous happening. After assessing my vehicle, the VW technicians said there was an internal issue with a faulty fuel tank. They said this issue was not something that I caused. Attached are the invoices and notes provided by the technicians. I paid $3,877 to get the problem fixed.

The component that failed, according to Volkswagen, is the rollover valve in the gas tank. This issue caused large amounts of gasoline to leak and pool from behind the rear passenger wheel well, creating a significant fire hazard and risk of harm. The vehicle was inspected by a Volkswagen service center as part of the repair process, whereupon the Volkswagen service center documented that the issue was caused by a faulty rollover valve in the gas tank. There were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms prior to the failure.

Driving my 2017Golf the check engine light came on. The light was steady. I called my dealer and got it in for service. They report to me that the Thermostat housing needs to be replaced and oxygen sensors need replacing also. I just had the manifold replaced 6 weeks ago. I found on line that this is a common problem . Why isn’t this a Recall Repair?

Fuel evaporation canister started leaking raw fuel after a strong gas odor was present before hand. The fuel suction pump failed and pressure built up in my gas tank. I was at risk because the presence of raw fuel near ignition sources can cause a fire. Verified at Volkswagen dealership. No warning signs by car when issue first started. Only sign of problem before raw fuel leaking was poor car performance, car stalled and I could not put more than a gallon of gas in the fuel tank.

I have been having rear cameras for quite some time. The first time I took it to the dealer they could not find any issues and told me to take pictures. I did, plenty of them. Monday 10-27 2025 I took it in again for the gas tank issue and camera issue. Being disabled due to serious spine issues I had to minimize waiting time. The dealer preformed a radio update per 91-19-02 & MIB2 composition & discovered media info system malfunctions. I am currently under VW extended warranty 10 year 100000 mi but they charged me $225.00 for the update. This is exactly the same issue for recall #91SB. Apparently the issue goes back further than the recall, I believe that these issues were swept under the rug. Any help would be appreciated. Failure of wheel speed sensor in front right wheel. This is the THIRD time I have had a wheel speed sensor fail on this car, which has 35,000 miles on it. Failure caused loss of power steering, airbags, abs, etc.

My clock spring has failed three times now the first few times I had it fixed at the dealership but my warranty is now no longer valid once since I bought it from the dealership and it has failed again saying my airbags deployed and none of my features on my steering wheel work at all not even my paddle shifters and nor does my horn. And this has happened every time all those things have not worked when it is gone faulty.

driving down the highway at 70mph and what sounded like a gunshot inside the car. glass started falling on us driving down the road. the sunroof glass exploded. got pulled over and looked and the glass is literally blown outward not inward like something falling on it. the hole it bulged up and the glass from the hole was missing.

2017 VW GTI, incredibly common issue of the sunroof surround cracking and allowing water to leak into the electrical components and headliner of the vehicle. VW does not care to admit fault on this even though there are hundreds of documented cases about this issue. Less than a year out of warranty and now dealing with potential mold issues or worse, an electrical shortage problem that could cause a fire. Not sure how this can be seen in hundreds of cases from VW owners and they haven’t done anything about it. Major issue.

The contact owns a 2017 Volkswagen Golf. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked and occupied, while attempting to depress the accelerator pedal, the vehicle independently accelerated and crashed into a parking lot barrier. The contact stated that none of the air bags deployed. There was no injury sustained. No medical attention was required. A police report was not filed. The contact stated that the vehicle was not diagnosed by a dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle was towed to an Auto Body Shop. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not deemed a total loss. The contact related the failure to an article read online on Edmonds Auto Reviews. The approximate failure mileage was 96,000.

Panoramic sunroof drains leaked water into passenger compartment down the A pillar on the drivers side. Leak was intense and occurred during rain, even light rain or mist. Material covering the A pillar was soaked through, and water droplets were dripping from the pillar onto the driver and dashboard. Water soaked the gauge cluster electronics and airbag contained within the A pillar. The electronics continued to operate, and water did not immediately cause them to malfunction. No warning lights illuminated. The windshield would become foggy any time there was moisture outside and visibility was severely reduced even when using the defroster. This occurred for the entire length I owned the vehicle, even after multiple drain cleanings at a dealer/ technician, and inspections at a Volkswagen dealer. Volkswagen and the dealer I purchased the used vehicle from were uncooperative in fixing this problem, which began within weeks of my vehicle ownership. Volkswagen dealer service department admitted this is a known issue. I took the vehicle to be inspected and repaired, which did not fix my issue after multiple attempts. I have since sold the vehicle with the known defect at a large loss because I was afraid for my safety and the safety of my family.

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO GANLEY BEDFORD IMPORTS (250 BROADWAY AVE, BEDFORD, OH 44146) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A SUN ROOF DRAINAGE PIPE FAILURE WHICH RESULTED IN DAMAGES TO THE WIRES AND CONNECTORS FROM THE WATER LEAKING INTO THE VEHICLE. THE WIRES AND CONNECTORS WERE REPLACED, HOWEVER THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS WERE NOT OPERATING AS DESIGNED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER FOR ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,951.

Breaks are not fuctioning well Engine is not fuctioning well

Forward collision warning malfunction made the safety feature become safety issues. I have to turn it off before I drive. Otherwise it automatically preforms hard break/ stop for no reasons, no matter how how fast am I driving, where and when. Even pulling out from parking lot w/ 5/10 mph at midnight when there is absolutely no one and nothing around or on the middle of the highway w/ 60mph in the afternoon.

This is related to VW recal 37M2. My VIN is not in the recall list, but it has the exact same issue with the shifter assembly. The car does not recognize when the transmission is placed in Park. Unable to lock doors

I am resubmitting a previous complaint as I have learned and experienced more problems with the vehicle since my initial complaint. My 2017 VW GTI only has 57K miles and I have been taking it to the dealer for proper and timely maintenance. My fuel system is showing signs of failure. Based on research I have been doing online ( I could be wrong) it seems the Volkswagen golfs have a part inside the gas tank that fails and starts causing a safety hazard. My gas tank builds up pressure and literally expels gas out from somewhere. I started finding a small pool of fuel behind my car when I park at work or at home. I have since parked my vehicle and will be taking it into the dealer for inspection and repair. I read online that the 2015 models have had a recall for a part called a “suction pump” in the gas tank. I think it is safe to assume that my 2017 is having the same issue as the 2015s. Although my year make and model has not had a recall for the unsafe issue. My car is not safe to drive currently. I cannot put gas into the tank, it throttles down and up sporadically and it literally burps and expels gas from somewhere under in the back of the vehicle and the refueling neck. Please look into this issue as I am not the only person who has experienced this. Thank you.

Faulty clock spring causing passenger airbag warning and loss of steering wheel controls, ie: horn, volume, cruise…

-rear coil springs snapped -if coil completely falls out there will be no suspension, creating a greater chance of accident -yes confirmed by mavis discount tire -inspected by me and mavis discount tire -no warning

Front suspension creaking noise. Front suspension creaking noise during suspension cycles (going over speed bumps or entering on an inclined surface) due to I believe Coil Spring not formed correctly and rubs against the perch of the strut or other issues/manufacturer defects with the front suspension. See also technical bulletin for 2012-2019 Passat stating similar issues: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2019/MC-10155776-9999.pdf I had originally reported a creaking noise to the dealer service center while my vehicle was still under warranty. The dealer claimed it was not able to recreate the sound, which I believe to be a false statement as it is very easy to recreate as it occurs every time I pull into my driveway or go over a speed bump. I stated this at the time however I suspect they didn’t want to replace under warranty or take ownership of the defect / recall. My vehicle is available for inspection upon request. I have not sought a second opinion from an independent service center yet. I believe this poses a safety concern for both myself and many others. It continues to creak because VW refuses to admit there is a problem. Please help, thank you!

IT COMES ON WHILE DRIVING, THE LDRIVER'S SIDE SEATBELT LIGHT COMES ON AND THE SENSOR STARTS BEEPING - THE WORST WAS OVER A HALF HOUR STRAIGHT WHILE DRIVING HOME. IT HAS HAPPENED ON CITY STREETS- CANNOT RECALL IT ON HIGHWAY DRIVING. IN THE LAST FEW MONTHS THE SEATBELT UNIT WAS REPLACED- BUT THE LIGHTS AND BEEPING HAS RETURNED. I AM NOW THINKING IT MAY BE THE SEAT - SENSOR. NOT THE BELT. I READ/VIEWED VIDEOS THAT THERE WAS A SHORT IN THE ELECTRICAL OF SOME PEOPLE'S SEATBELT HOUSING, FIXED WITH WELDS. MOST RECENTLY IT IS HAPPENING MULTIPLE TIMES WHILE DRIVING. IT HAPPENED 7 TIMES WHILE DRIVING MY CAR FROM WORK TO THE DEALER, <10 MILES CITY STREET DRIVE. THE SUNROOF LEAKS WATER FROM ALL FOUR COUNTERS INTO THE VEHICLE: HEADLINER, SEATS, CARPET AND DASHBOARD. WARNING SIGNALS/ERRORS MESSAGES: AIR BAG, TRACTION, ENGINE LIGHT. 2500 MILES ON VEHICLE PURCHASED 3/18 NEW. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN A DRIVEWAY DURING A MAJOR RAIN STORM.

Rear passenger seat buckle does not latch and thus at least one seat belt cannot be used. Buckle failed on its own. No accident or other incident was done to the buckle.

LOW AND HIGH BEAM LAMPS ARE INADEQUATE AND DO NOT SUFFICIENTLY ILLUMINATE THE ROAD. MUCH DIMMER THAN ANY CAR I HAVE EVER DRIVEN. VW NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS LIGHTING ISSUE.
