THE CHECK-ENGINE LIGHT LIT UP ON MY DASHBOARD LAST MONTH AND I PROMPTLY BROUGHT THE CAR TO MY LOCAL VW DEALER. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE CLUTCH WAS SLIPPING IN FIRST GEAR (THIS IS AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION) AND THAT THE APPROPRIATE REPAIR WAS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION. THE DEALER CONTACTED VOLKSWAGEN AND WAS INFORMED THAT AS THE CAR WAS 7 MONTHS BEYOND THE 5 YEAR 50,000 MILE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY I WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COSTS OF TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT.
