Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
0
InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

What owners report

Complaints grouped by the component NHTSA recorded

  • Body & structure120.0%
  • Electrical120.0%
  • Fuel system120.0%
  • Suspension120.0%
  • Tires & wheels120.0%

Percentages are of component mentions. A single complaint can name more than one component, so these do not sum to the total complaint count.

No recalls in our database for this model year

That does not guarantee a specific vehicle is unaffected — recalls are issued against VINs, and new campaigns are announced regularly. Check a VIN on NHTSA.gov.

I WENT TO THE MIDAS AUTO SHOP LOCATED ON 8888 JAMACHA ROAD TO GET MY BRAKE SYSTEM BLED. WHEN I GOT THERE, THE MANAGER, NANCY, SAID THAT I NEEDED TO GET A THOROUGH BRAKE INSPECTION BEFORE GETTING ANYTHING DONE. I CONSENTED, AND SIGNED A CONSENT FORM. NOTE: PRIOR TO GOING TO THE AUTO SHOP, MY CAR WAS IN TOP RUNNING CONDITION, EXCEPT FOR THE BRAKE PROBLEM. AS SOON AS THE BRAKE INSPECTION WAS COMPLETED, NANCY TOLD ME THE OTHER "PROBLEMS" THAT MY CAR HAD TO GET FIXED IN ADDITION TO THE BRAKE SITUATION. IN ADDITION TO THAT SHE SAID THAT THE WHOLE BRAKE BLEEDING PROCEDURE AND THE REPLACEMENT OF A MASTER CYLINDER WOULD COST WAY MORE THAN I EXPECTED IT TO, SO I DECLINED TO GET MY CAR SERVICED BY THEM (MIDAS). I PAID THE $19.99 INSPECTION FEE AND LEFT THE AUTO SHOP. ABOUT A MILE AWAY MY CAR STOPPED RUNNING. I TRIED TO RESTART IT, BUT IT WOULDN'T DO SO. I THEN OPENED THE HOOD TO CHECK WHAT COULD BE WRONG. I NOTICED A HOSE HANGING LOOSE BEHIND THE POWER STEERING COLUMN. IT HAD A CLEAN CUT ABOUT A HALF AN INCH LONG AT THE END. I ALSO SAW A CONNECTOR WITHOUT A HOSE CONNECTED TO IT. I KNEW THEN THAT SOMETHING WAS SUSPICIOUS ABOUT THE "INSPECTION" DONE AT MIDAS. THE HOSE THAT WAS CUT WAS IN GOOD CONDITION. IT WAS IN NO WAY DRY OR BRITTLE, AND COULD NOT HAVE FALLEN OFF ON ITS OWN. IT WAS A VACCUM HOSE CONNECTION THAT AIDED IN THE INTAKE OF AIR TO THE CARBUREATOR. WHEN IT WAS DISLOCATED FROM ITS JOINT CONNECTOR, NO AIR WENT THROUGH TO THE CARBUREATOR, THUS MAKING MY CAR STALL FOR LACK OF A GOOD AIR/FUEL MIX. I AM THOROUGHLY DISGUSTED WITH THIS INCIDENT AND I AM ACTIVELY SEEKING LEGAL CONSULTATION ABOUT THIS MATTER.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

This is a Technical Journal: Swapping control modules from vehicle to vehicle for diagnostics should be avoided. Swapping control modules may result in consequential damage to the swapped control module and in certain cases several other control modules in the vehicle. Swapping the Driver Information Module (DIM) is strictly forbidden as the DIM it is the main carrier of the odometer function, and will, in case of swapping, result in manipulated odometer value. Service: Please do NOT swap any control modules from vehicle to vehicle for testing, unless instructed to do so in a Vehicle Report by the Technical Helpdesk

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
