The defect: NAVISTAR IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR MY 2001-2008 WORKHORSE W20, W21 AND W22 CHASSIS AND CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2009 THROUGH 2011 MONACO RV ADMIRAL, ARISTA, MONARCH, AND RIPTIDE RECREATIONAL VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH AXLES THAT INCLUDE BOSCH ZOPS OR ZOHT PIN SLIDE HYDRAULIC DISC BRAKES. WHEN COMBINED WITH OCCASIONAL OR SEASONAL VEHICLE OPERATION MAY EXPERIENCE CALIPERS STICKING IN THE APPLIED POSITION. THIS CAN RESULT IN ABNORMAL HEAT GENERATION AT THE WHEEL END CAUSING BRAKE DRAG. THE DRIVER WOULD NORMALLY HAVE WARNING OF THE BRAKE DRAG IF UNDETECTED BY THE DRIVER.
The risk: THE TEMPERATURE INCREASE AT THE WHEEL END CAN EVENTUALLY LEAD TO SOFT PEDAL CONDITIONS DUE TO BRAKE FLUID BOIL, AND POSSIBLE EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
The remedy: WORKHORSE DEALERS WILL REPLACE ALL FOUR BOSCH BRAKE CALIPER ASSEMBLIES FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 16, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT WORKHORSE AT 1-877-246-7731.

The contact owns a 2007 Workhorse W22. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the driver's and passenger's window panels fogged up, causing the contact to not be able to see the roadway. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 54,000.

LETTER FROM SENATOR SCHUMER ON BEHALF OF CONSTITUENT RE 2008 TIFFIN ALLEGRO OPEN ROAD SAFETY DEFECT ISSUES. *SMD 2007 WORKHORSE W22. THE CONSUMER STATED THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE HAD A SLOW LEAK. THE RV WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, AND HAD THE VALVE STEM REPLACED. WHEN REMOUNTING THE WHEEL, THE MECHANIC NOTICED THE ROTOR WAS CRACKED. THE CONSUMER CALLED WORKHORSE TO FIND AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. WHEN THE CONSUMER CONTACTED THE DEALER, HE WAS INFORMED THERE WAS AN OUTSTANDING RECALL ON THE CALIPERS. THE CONSUMER WAS UNAWARE OF THE RECALL. HOWEVER, HE DID RECEIVE AN INTERIM RECALL NOTICE AND HE IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE RV TO THE DEALER AND HAD IT INSPECTED. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED TO WAIT FOR THE RECALL NOTICE AS SPECIFIED IN THE INTERIM RECALL. THE CONSUMER NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONSUMER ALL THE ROTORS WERE SEVERELY CRACKED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 WORKHORSE CHASSIS W22 EQUIPPED ON A 2008 FLEETWOOD PACE ARROW RV. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATED WHEN THE VEHICLE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP, BUT THE ENGINE DID NOT STALL. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVEN TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO REPLACED THE CALIPERS AND BRAKE FLUID. THE SAME DAY THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED FOR THE MOST RECENT FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED IN 2009 UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V110000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 WINNABEGO ADVENTURER RV. THE VEHICLE WAS EQUIPPED WITH A WORKHORSE CHASSIS W22. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTIFICATION LETTER REGARDING THE WORKHORSE CHASSIS UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V110000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC). HOWEVER, THE REPAIR PART WAS UNAVAILABLE FOR THE RECALL REMEDY REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS WHICH THERE WAS AN UNCERTAINTY OF WHEN THE PART WOULD BE AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER REPORT DATE WAS APRIL 1,2009. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED THE FAILURE AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT.

2007 FLEETWOOD BOUNDER 32W ON A 2007 WORKHORSE W22 CHASSIS HAD BRAKE FAILURE. *NJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE REAR CALIPERS APPARENTLY DRAGGED WHICH CAUSED EXCESSIVE HEAT AND LOSS OF EFFECTIVE BRAKING. AFTER THE CONSUMER RETURNED HOME, HE RECEIVED TWO WARNINGS ON THE DASH WHICH SAID BRAKE FAILURE AND CHECK ABS. THE CONSUMER TRIED THE BRAKES AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. THE DEALER STATED THE REAR BRAKES AND REAR CALIPER PISTON WERE BINDING. ALSO, THE BRAKE PADS WERE SCORED. *JB
