Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
0
InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

What owners report

Complaints grouped by the component NHTSA recorded

  • Fuel system4100.0%

Percentages are of component mentions. A single complaint can name more than one component, so these do not sum to the total complaint count.

Safety recalls

No recalls in our database for this model year

That does not guarantee a specific vehicle is unaffected — recalls are issued against VINs, and new campaigns are announced regularly. Check a VIN on NHTSA.gov.

HELLO; I CONTACTED THE YAMAHA CORPORATION ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AT THEIR CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS IN CYPRESS, CALIFORNIA. TWICE, I TRIED TO GET THE PROBLEM TAKEN CARE OF. FIRST CONTACT WAS [XXX], THEN [XXX], 04-10-2015. 10:55 AM, THE ATTITUDE OF THE REPRESENTATIVES WAS INCREDIBLE, EVEN TO THE POINT OF MOCKING ME ABOUT THE SAFETY ISSUE. WHEN I ASKED TO SPEAK TO A MANAGER, THEY SAID THERE WASN'T ONE, AND THAT I AM WHO YOU SPEAK TO . THE FINAL RESPONSE OF BOTH WAS THAT THERE IS NO RECALL AND I WAS TO PAY FOR IT MYSELF. THIS PATTERN OF RESPONSE IS PRE-PLANNED BY YAMAHA, THEY DO NOT CARE AT ALL. THIS ISSUE CAN EASILY RESULT IN DEATH, A SCOOTER THAT INSTANTLY STOPS IN TRAFFIC IS EXTREMELY SERIOUS. PLEASE HELP ME, THEY DO NOT CARE AT ALL ABOUT THE OWNERS OF THESE VEHICLES. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR

HELLO; I HAVE A 2008 YAMAHA MORPHOUS. THERE ARE RECALLS ON THE 2005-2007 MODELS. MY MECHANIC HAS DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS THE FUEL SYSTEM BEING ENTIRELY RUSTED OUT, THE FUEL TANK, FUEL FILTER, AND ASSEMBLY. I CONTACTED YAMAHA CORPORATION AND THEY WILL DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. THE RECALL SAYS THIS PROBLEM CAN RESULT IN DEATH THIS IS NOT RIGHT AT ALL, AND I JUST PURCHASED THIS FROM A SECOND PARTY. PLEASE HELP ME AND ADD THIS TO THE LIST OF RECALLS. IT SHOULD BE 2005-2008, THE LAST YEAR THEY WERE MADE. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR

IN WARM WEATHER, FUEL PUMP FAILS AFTER GETTING HOT. TODAY, AFTER A 20 MINUTE RIDE AT INTERSTATE SPEEDS, I ARRIVED AT MY DESTINATION. THE AMBIENT TEMPERATURE WAS AROUND 75 DEGREES. AFTER 2 HOURS, READY TO RETURN, I TRIED TO START THE SCOOTER, NO JOY. AFTER REMOVING THE PLASTIC HELMET TRAY UNDER THE SEAT, I POURED CHILLED WATER ON THE FUEL PUMP ATOP THE GAS TANK, AND THEN THE SCOOTER STARTED RIGHT UP. HAD THIS PROBLEM LAST SUMMER BUT NEVER FIGURED OUT WHAT THE ISSUE WAS. ALWAYS JUST HAD TO LET IT SIT FOR SEVERAL HOURS BEFORE IT WOULD START AGAIN. I GOT THE IDEA TO POUR WATER ON IT AFTER READING SEVERAL POSTS FROM OTHER YAMAHA SCOOTER OWNERS WHO HAVE MENTIONED FUEL PUMP ISSUES. THE BIKE ONLY HAS 3400 MILES ON IT. IT DOES NOT SEEM THAT A COMPONENT LIKE THIS SHOULD BEGIN TO FAIL AFTER THAT FEW MILES. IT IS, OR COURSE, OUT OF MANUFACTURES WARRANTY DUE TO AGE. *TR

I AM AWARE OF A PROBLEM WITH FUEL PUMP FAILURE AND CONSEQUENT ENGINE STALLING IN YAMAHA MOTORCYCLE MODEL WR250R AND WR250X, MODEL YEAR 2008. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN ADDRESSED BY A RECALL IN JAPAN ON THIS MODEL (AS WELL AS OTHER MODELS USING THIS PUMP ASSEMBLY). AT THIS TIME, I SEE NO COMPLAINTS LISTED ON YOUR WEBSITE. AS THIS CONSTITUTES A SAFETY ISSUE, I THINK THAT A RECALL IN THE USA SHOULD BE REQUIRED. THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN REPORTED ON AT LEAST 3 POPULAR ENTHUSIAST WEB SITES. IF YOU CAN PROVIDE A SPECIFIC E-MAIL ADDRESS FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM TO REPORT TO, I CAN POST THIS INFORMATION ON THE APPROPRIATE FORUMS. FURTHER IN THIS FORM I CHECKED MODEL "CP250" BECAUSE THE PROPER MODEL WAS NOT LISTED AS A CHOICE. *TR

Manufacturer communications

A bulletin sent by a manufacturer to its dealers. Not a recall, and repairs are not necessarily free.

EQUIPMENT:OTHER:OWNERS/SERVICE/OTHER MANUAL

YAMAHA MC: WHEN LOOKING FOR TECHNICAL INFORMATION, A COMPREHENSIVE INDEX IS PROVIDED REGARDING TECHNICAL SOLUTIONS FOR VARIOUS PROBLEMS. *PE

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
