2005 Yamaha FZ6 Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2005 Yamaha FZ6, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Hello, i ride this Yamaha FZ-6 motorcycle and I experience poor idling and engine stalls during riding, and last time this nearly led to accident, because the motorcycle slowed down in front of an overpassing automobile. I have bought this bike imported from USA. I am situated in Bulgaria, Europe. I saw there is a recall action about faulty TPS sensor. Kindly requesting any help for replacing this sensor by recall action. Thank you in advance for your kind support. [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

ENGINE OIL PAN CRACKED AFTER TORQUING DRAIN PLUG TO MANUFACTURERS SPEC. HAVE READ MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS OF THIS SAME OCCURRENCE. CONTACTED LOCAL DEALER AND YAMAHA AMERICA. BOTH DECLINED KNOWLEDGE OF DEFECT. YAMAHA AMERICA WAS QUITE SHORT, DID NOT WANT TO HEAR ANY DETAILS OF THE FAILURE, JUST STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS, ANY DEFECTS WERE NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. *TR

MY 2005 FZ6 RAN FLAWLESSLY TILL 4000 MILE THEN THE IDLE WAS DROPPING TO 600-800 AND THEN WOULD JUST DIE. I WOULD TURN KEY OFF AND TURN KEY ON AGAIN AND RESTART AND IT WOULD RUN FINE. IT HAPPENS TWICE A WEEK. ONCE ON WET PAVEMENT IT WAS FEELING BOGGISH I PULLED CLUTCH TO SEE AND IT WAS 600-800 AND DIED. I LET OUT CLUTCH AND ALMOST LOST IT. I READ ABOUT SEVERAL OTHER OWNERS EXPERIENCING SAME PROBLEM AND SOME RUMOR IT TO THE TPS SENSOR. *JB

ONLY RECENTLY, MOTORCYCLE STALLED IN CENTER LANE OF HIGHWAY AT TRAFFIC SIGNAL AT NIGHT, WOULD NOT RESTART. RECEIVED FAULT CODE 15 CORRESPONDING TO THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR. REPLACED PART. LEARNED OF SEVERAL OTHER 2005 FZ6'S WITH SIMILAR PROBLEM. *NM

I WAS RIDING HOME ON MY 2005 YAMAHA FZ6 MOTORCYCLE, WHEN THE ENGINE BEGAN IDLING VERY ROUGH. I HAD TO ROLL ON THE THROTTLE TO KEEP THE ENGINE FROM STALLING. THEN A FEW SECONDS LATER I PULLED IN THE CLUTCH AND THE ENGINE STALLED COMPLETELY. I WAS NOT ABLE TO RESTART THE ENGINE AFTER 4 ATTEMPTS. THEN I TURNED THE IGNITION OFF, AND TURNED IT BACK ON, AND THE ENGINE STARTED AS IF THERE WAS NO PROBLEM. OBVIOUSLY, TURNING THE IGNITION OFF AND BACK ON IS MERELY A BAND AID FOR THIS ISSUE, AND NOT A PERMANENT SOLUTION. PLEASE REFER TO THIS WEBSITE TO LEARN OF OTHER FZ6 OWNERS THAT HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS ISSUE. HTTP://FORUMS.SPORTBIKES.NET/FORUMS/SHOWTHREAD.PHP?T=7320 *JB

DT: OWNER BOUGHT A SCOOTER AND THERE WAS A SUBSTANCE COATING ON THE PANEL, AND THERE WAS A CRACK . THE PANEL WAS LOCATED ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE OWNER CONTACTED THE SALES REPRESENTATIVE FROM BARGAIN GEMS, HE SENT A REPLACEMENT PANEL. THEN WHEN ATTEMPTING TO TURN ON THE HEADLIGHT HIGH BEAMS ABOUT A MONTH LATER, THE HEADLIGHTS HA D A BLOWN BULB. THEN, THE OWNER CALLED THE SALES REPRESENTATIVE WHO SENT OWNER A REPLACEMENT HEADLIGHT AND BULBS. THE VEHICLE STARTED LEAKING OIL A MONTH AGO. THE OWNER COULD NOT FIND ANYONE TO WORK ON THE PRODUCT. THE OWNER COULD NOT REPAIR THE OIL LEAK. HE GOT THE LEAK TO SLOW DOWN, BUT NOT STOP. THERE WAS A BREEDER HOSE FOR THE CRANK CASE, THE HOSE WAS PINCHED. THIS CAUSED THE ENGINE NOT TO GET AIR. THEN, WHEN OWNER WENT TO CHECK OIL IT LEAKED OIL. THEN THE HOSE SUCKED PRESSURE IN. CURRENTLY, THE ENGINE STILL LEAKS, AND THE OWNER THOUGHT THE SEAL WAS DAMAGED. THEN, WHILE DRIVING THE OWNER NOTICED THE VEHICLE REVVED UP AND THE SCOOTER STOPPED. THERE WAS A CRACKING NOISE, AND SOMETHING CAME LOOSE. THEN THE OWNER PUSHED AND COASTED DOWN A HILL TO A FRIEND'S DRIVEWAY. THE FRIEND GAVE THE OWNER A RIDE HOME. THE OWNER RETRIEVED THE SCOOTER FROM FRIEND. THE OWNER DID NOT KNOW WHAT CAUSED THE ENGINE TO FAIL. OWNER HAS THE PARTS TO FIX THE ENGINE BUT IT IS GOING TO BE A PROBLEM TO FIX IT. THE GAS GAUGE DIDN'T WORK. THEN THE OWNER CHECKED THE BATTERY. THERE WAS AN IMMENSE AMOUNT OF BATTERY ACID ON THE GROUND WIRE. OWNER TOOK OUT THE BATTERY AND CLEANED IT.*AK
