What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2002 Yamaha Yzfr6l, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

I PURCHASED A BRAND NEW 2002 YAMAHA R6 IN THE SPRING OF 2003. IT WAS PURCHASED AS A LEFTOVER FROM POWER MOTORSPORTS IN PALATINE IL. IT CURRENTLY HAS 5,684 MILES ON IT, AND I CAME HOME SATURDAY AFTER A RIDE AND NOTICED THAT BATTERY ACID WAS LEAKING ALL OVER THE SWINGARM AND CHAIN, AND SOME OTHER STUFF THAT I PROBABLY CAN'T SEE. I CONTACTED ROXY'S CYCLES IN CHAMBERSBURG PA WHERE I CURRENTLY LIVE, AND THEY SAID TO CONTACT YAMAHA WHICH I HAVE NOT DONE YET.*AK

I HAVE 2002 YAMAHA YZFR6 THAT HAS NEVER BEEN RACED AND HAS BEEN RIDDEN NORMALLY THROUGH IT'S LIFETIME. SECOND GEAR HAS STARTED TO SLIP. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE R6. I HAVE NOT REPAIRED THE MOTORCYCLE YET BUT REPAIRS WILL REPLACE SECOND GEAR, SIXTH GEAR, THE SHIFT FORK FOR THE GEAR AND THE SHIFT DRUM. REPAIR COST IS QUOTED AT APPROXIMATELY $1500.*AK
