What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 1999 Yamaha Yzfr6m, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

MOTORCYCLE HAS DEVELOPED A SLIP IN 1ST AND IN 2ND GEAR. I WENT TO YAMAHA AT ABOUT 7500 MILES AND COMPLAINED. THEY TRIED TO SAY I WAS TOO ROUGH ON THE BIKE. BOTH GEARS ABOUT 8500 RPM JUMPS TO 8750 RPM AND CATCHES AGAIN AND THEN AT ABOUT 9500 IT SLIPS TO 9750-10000 RPM. INITIALLY, I THOUGHT THE PROBLEM WAS SIMPLY NOT ENOUGH TENSION ON THE CLUTCH SO I ADJUSTED THE CABLE. FINALLY, I CONVINCED ANOTHER BUSINESS WITH A REAR-WHEEL DYNO TO LOAD IT UP AND CLEARLY SAW THE INSTANT JUMPS I HAD BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT. YAMAHA STILL DENIES ANY PROBLEMS. ODDLY ENOUGH, ANOTHER CYCLE REPAIR SHOP COMMENTED TO ME THEY WERE SURPRISED I MANAGED TO KEEP THE REAR TIRE (VERY SOFT) ON THE BIKE TO 11,250 MILES WHEN MOST GET REPLACED AT ROUGHLY 9000. GUESS I'M TOO TOUGH ON IT.
Too few reports in this category for a page of its own — they appear in the full complaint list.
Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
