The defect: Altec Industries, Inc. (Altec) is recalling certain model year 2013 AT237, and 2013-2014 AT3X-G, AT40-G, and AT248F aerial trucks manufactured August 2013 through April 2014, built on Ford F-450 and F-550 chassis, and equipped with front "Stable Ride" torsion bars. These torsion bars have welds that could fail.
The risk: If the torsion bar welds fail, the vehicle may become unstable, increasing the risk of injury to the operator using the aerial device.
The remedy: Altec will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the front torsion bars and replace any that have deficient welds, free of charge. The recall began in August 2014. Owners may contact Altec customer service at 1-877-462-5832. Altec's number for this recall is CSN 599.

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM; EQUIPMENT

The defect: Altec Industries, Inc. (Altec) is recalling certain model year 2010-2013 AT200A, AT235, AT235P, AT30-G, AT35-G, AT37-G, AT40-G and AT237 Aerial Devices mounted on Ford Super Duty Chassis' equipped with 6.8L gas engines and Muncie FR67 power take offs (PTO). In the affected vehicles, oil may leak from the PTO pressure switch onto a thermal blanket covering the exhaust.
The risk: Oil leaking onto the thermal blanket combined with heat from exhaust may result in an increased risk of fire.
The remedy: Altec will notify owners, and dealers will replace the affected pressure switch and thermal blanket with the kit identified by Muncie, free of charge. The recall began on December 9, 2013. Consumerr's may contact Altec at 1-877-462-5832. Altec's recall number is CSN 583.

SIL 3066

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM

Altec has learned that operators might be using the crane and unit simultaneously on certain Altec units equipped with Venturo, Liftmoore, and Autocrane service cranes built from March 2009 to August 2022. These units were designed for single use of the crane or the unit, not simultaneous operation. To promote proper unit operation, Altec has developed an operator aid and new placards outlining the usage of the crane and unit. There are seven total owners/units affected.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM; ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:OIL/LUBRICATION

Altec has learned that certain AT35/37-G and AT40-G aerial devices built between February 2008 and January 2016 have power wiring for the 12V hydraulic oil reservoir heater which could be insufficient to carry the electrical current required to operate the heater. This could result in damage to the unit’s Power Distribution Module (PDM), causing the oil heater to stop operating. A kit has been developed to update the oil heater power wiring to carry the necessary current. Altec requires this kit to be installed on the affected units no later than the next preventive maintenance interval or 90 days from the receipt of this SIL, whichever comes first.

EQUIPMENT; EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY

Altec discovered that one of the fasteners used to attach the rear shear plate on the subbase of the unit to the chassis can contact the chassis u-bolt. The fastener can be a huck bolt or a bolt and nut. Movement of the u-bolt can possibly cause damage to the huck bolt or bolt and nut resulting in the fastener being broken off. Altec requires the customer to perform an inspection of rear shear plate on the subbase to determine if huck bolts or bolts and nuts were installed. This inspection should be completed no later than 90 days after the receipt of this SIL. Use the inspection Procedure beginning on Page 2. If huck bolts are present, contact Altec to perform the repair, or send the vehicle to local service center.
