What this recall covers

NHTSA's campaign record, quoted as published

The defect

Altec Industries, Inc. (Altec) is recalling certain model year 2013 AT237, and 2013-2014 AT3X-G, AT40-G, and AT248F aerial trucks manufactured August 2013 through April 2014, built on Ford F-450 and F-550 chassis, and equipped with front "Stable Ride" torsion bars. These torsion bars have welds that could fail.

The risk

If the torsion bar welds fail, the vehicle may become unstable, increasing the risk of injury to the operator using the aerial device.

The remedy

Altec will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the front torsion bars and replace any that have deficient welds, free of charge. The recall began in August 2014. Owners may contact Altec customer service at 1-877-462-5832. Altec's number for this recall is CSN 599.

Notes

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.

A safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
