Manufacturer communications
A bulletin sent by a manufacturer to its dealers. Not a recall, and repairs are not necessarily free.
TRAILER HITCHES
Altec has discovered that certain ST500 and ST600 units built from July 2017 to October 2019 do not have a load rating placard on the outer tubes of the hitch. Overloading the tubes could damage the bumper and/or hitch. Altec requires a placard kit to be installed on each affected unit within 90 days of receipt of this SIL. The placard kit required depends on the unit model. Install the kit upon receipt. This installation is covered under the Altec Warranty Policy and can be performed by Altec, the customer, or the customerâs warranty provider. Altec will perform the work for free at an Altec facility. If the customer or the customerâs warranty provider performs the installation, a warranty claim must be submitted to be reimbursed for the cost of the parts and/or labor.
STRUCTURE
The receiver hitch capacity and warning placards were not installed on the affected units. Use of the hitch at loads higher than the design ratings due to the lack of these placards can overload the receiver tube, resulting in damage to the receiver tube and/or the bumper. The Receiver Hitch Placards Kit is included with the SIL. Altec requires this kit to be installed by the next preventive maintenance interval.
Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
Compare model years
Complaint and recall counts across every year of this model
Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
