Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.

InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE (TCM/PCM/TECM)

Dec 11, 2017
3,493 units potentially affected
The defect: Aston Martin The Americas (Aston Martin) is recalling certain 2009-2016 DB9, 2009-2012 DBS, 2010-2015 Rapide, 2012 Virage, and 2014 Vanquish vehicles equipped with a 6-Speed Touchtronic II Automatic Transmission. A communication error between the Engine Control Module (ECM) and the Transmission Control Module (TCM) can cause the transmission park pawl to not engage.
The risk: If the park pawl does not engage and the vehicle is stopped on a slope and exited without the parking brake being applied, the vehicle may unexpectedly roll, increasing the risk of a crash.
The remedy: Aston Martin will notify owners, and dealers will update the TCM software, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin February 1, 2018. Owners may contact Aston Martin customer service at 1-888-923-9988. Aston Martin's number for this recall is RA-07-0028.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:12V/24V/48V BATTERY:CABLES

Dec 11, 2017
1,953 units potentially affected
The defect: Aston Martin The Americas (Aston Martin) is recalling certain 2005-2009 DB9, and DBS vehicles. The battery supply cable on these vehicles may become damaged when the driver seat is positioned in the full rearward location.
The risk: If the battery cable is damaged and then grounded, the short circuit can increase the risk of a fire.
The remedy: Aston Martin will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the battery supply cable for damage, and install a routing block to keep the battery supply cable from being compressed by the seat, free of charge. The recall began February 8, 2018. Owners may contact Aston Martin customer service at 1-888-923-9988. Aston Martin's number for this recall is RA-18-0026.

LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES

Dec 16, 2015
6,076 units potentially affected
The defect: Aston Martin Lagonda of North America (Aston Martin) is recalling certain model year 2010-2015 DB9, 2010-2012 DBS, 2010-2016 V8 Vantage, 2012 Virage, 2010-2016 Rapide, 2014-2016 Vanquish, 2011-2016 V12 Vantage, and 2012-2013 V12 Zagato vehicles. The affected vehicles are equipped with interior door unlocking mechanisms that may not function when the vehicle has been locked from the outside. As such, these vehicles fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 206, "Door Locks and Door Retention Components."
The risk: If the doors cannot be opened by an occupant from inside the vehicle, they may be trapped inside, increasing their risk of injury.
The remedy: Aston Martin will notify owners, and dealers will disable the double locking feature by reprogramming the software, free of charge. The recall began August 10, 2016. Owners may contact Aston Martin customer service at 1-888-923-9988. Aston Martin's number for this recall is RA-01-0021.

THE CAR STALLED AT A FEW MPH AND WOULD NOT RESTART FOR SEVERAL MINUTES. THIS HAD HAPPENED ONCE BEFORE. THE INSTRUMENTATION LIGHTS REMAINED ON. THE ENGINE WOULD NOT TURN OVER. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO PALM BEACH MOTORS. THE COMPUTER DID NOT SHOW A FAULT AND THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE INCIDENT. THEY REFUSED TO DIAGNOSE AND WOULD NOT TAKE ANY FURTHER ACTION, EVEN THOUGH I HAD PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. I SPOKE DIRECTLY WITH ASTON MARTIN, WHO ASKED QUESTIONS THAT INDICATED TO ME THAT THEY HAD HEARD OF THIS ISSUE, BUT HE WOULD NOT DIRECT PALM BEACH ASTON MARTIN TO TAKE ANY ACTION. HAD THIS HAPPENED ON A BUSY STREET IT WOULD HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. THE SELLING DEALER EVENTUAL BOUGHT THE CAR BACK. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN REPORTED ON THE INTERNET MANY TIMES. UNLESS THIS ISSUE IS UNDERSTOOD AND RECTIFIED, THIS CAR AND PROBABLY OTHER ASTON MARTINS ARE UNSAFE TO DRIVE. *TR

I HAD MY 2009 DB9 ASTON MARTIN PARKED AT THE TOP OF MY DRIVEWAY WHILE RETRIEVING MY MAIL. AS I WALKED BACK TO THE CAR (VERY SHORT DISTANCE) IT BEGAN ROLLING DOWN THE DRIVEWAY. I WATCHED AS IT ROLLED OFF THE PAVED AREA &DOWN A RAVINE CRASHING INTO A TREE. THE PARKING LITE WAS CLEARLY LIT AFTER THE CRASH. MY SON TOOK PICTURES. ASTON MARTIN WOULD NOT TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS ACCIDENT SAYING I DIDN`T HAVE IT IN PARK. I MOST CERTAINLY DID HAVE IT IN PARK BECAUSE YOU CAN NOT GET OUT OF ANY CAR ON MY DRIVEWAY WITHOUT IT BEING IN PARK. I SOLD THE CAR WITHOUT REPAIRING IT & THE INSURANCE COMPANY PAID ME FOR THE CAR. I OF COURSE HAD TO PAY MY 5000 DOLLAR DEDUCTIBLE. I LOST MONEY TRYING TO HIRE A PRIVATE INVESTIGATOR WHO KEPT THE CAR 3 MONTHS & NEVER LOOKED AT IT. HE WAS CHARGING ME STORAGE FEES + NUMEROUS OTHER THINGS THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN. I WROTE LETTERS TO ASTON MARTIN OF NORTH AMERICA & ALSO THE OWNER IN ENGLAND. THE RESPONSE WAS SMALL ONLY SAYING THEY WEREN'T RESPONSIBLE...I NEVER HEARD FROM ENGLAND.. APPARENTLY THIS "PARKING ISSUE" WAS A PROBLEM IN 05 & 06 . THEY CLAIM TO HAVE FIXED THIS PROBLEM HOWEVER I`M HERE TO TELL YOU THEY DIDN'T. IT SHOULD 'NEVER" BE THIS DIFFICULT TO PROVE THIS KIND OF THING. THANKFULLY NO ONE WAS HURT BUT THEY COULD EASILY HAVE BEEN. JUST LIKE TOYOTA TOO MANY PEOPLE WERE SERIOUSLY HURT BEFORE ANYTHING GOT DONE. UNFORTUNATELY IT SEEMS THAT IT TAKES CONTACTING YOU PEOPLE TO MAKE THESE MANUFACTURES OWN-UP TO THEIR ERRORS & MAKE THINGS RIGHT.. *TR

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers. Older model years have had longer for reports to accumulate.
