Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.
0
InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.
0
Crash or fire reportedComplaints whose submitter recorded that a crash or a fire occurred. These are the reporter's own answers on the NHTSA form, not verified findings.

What owners report

Complaints grouped by the component NHTSA recorded

  • Brakes266.7%
  • Body & structure133.3%

Percentages are of component mentions. A single complaint can name more than one component, so these do not sum to the total complaint count.

Safety recalls

No recalls in our database for this model year

That does not guarantee a specific vehicle is unaffected — recalls are issued against VINs, and new campaigns are announced regularly. Check a VIN on NHTSA.gov.

DEALER SWAP ON TRAILER 04-27-2015 FROM GEORGETOWN TX DAY OF PICKUP THE BRAKES WASN'T WORKING AFTER SPENDING A DAY AT DEALERSHIP BY DAY END WORKING HOWEVER A LEAK WAS DETECTED IN REAR ON BRAKE LINE COUPLER THEY ATTEMPTED TO TIGHTEN IT UP AND I PROCEEDED TO LEAVE DEALERSHIP. ON OR ABOUT JUNE 9TH 2015 TRAILER HAD NO BRAKES, LEAKING FLUID OUT OF COUPLINGS, DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO FIX. REPLACED COUPLING AT OWN EXPENSE. ON JULY 4 I WAS PUT OUT OF SERVICE IN HOUSTON TX BY DOT BECAUSE BRAKE FAILED AGAIN LEAKING THIS TIME CALIPER HAD BLEW OUT..DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO FIX DEXTER AXLES SENT PARTS TO FIX. IN SEPTEMBER 2015 ALL CALIPERS BLEW OUT DEALERSHIP IN GEORGETOWN AND MT PLEASANT REFUSED TO FIX AGAIN DEXTER AXLES SUPPLIED PARTS TO BRAKE TECH IN CORBIN FOR REPAIR. WHEREFORE IN OCTOBER 2016 AND ACCIDENT OCCURRED RESULTING IN A DEATH DUE IN PART OF BRAKES FAILING AND BLOWING OUT WHILE BRAKING. AT THAT TIME ALL CALIPERS HAD BLEW AND BRAKES WAS METAL TO METAL ONCE AGAIN NOT EVEN 35 DAYS AFTER THE SECOND REPLACEMENT. WHEREFORE CONNIE MASSIE AT DEXTER DETERMINED IT WAS A FAULTY ACTUATOR THAT WAS CAUSING BRAKES TO PREMATURELY FAIL. BIG TEX HAS HAD THIS SIMILAR PROBLEM IN THE PAST. THIS ACTUATOR WAS NOT RELEASING CORRECTLY CAUSING DRAG ON ROTORS AND PADS CAUSING THEM TO WEAR EXTREMELY FAST. STILL BIG TEX IN MT PLEASANT TX REFUSED TO SERVICE BRAKES EITHER TIME THIS ISSUE CAME UP. AFTER THE FATAL ACCIDENT IN SPARKS NV, BIG TEX WAS CONTACTED AND CALL WAS FORWARDED TO BARRY IN WARRANTY DEPARTMENT WHERE AT THAT TIME BARRY REFUSED TO FIX BRAKES AND TRAILER HAD TO BE TAKEN TO PERFORMANCE TRAILERS IN MT PLEASANT WITH THE ASSISTS OF DEXTER AXLES TO REPLACE COMPLETE BRAKING SYSTEM. AT NO TIME HAS BIG TEX ASSISTED IN REPAIRING THIS TRAILER AND REASON I HAVE THIS TRAILER IS THE 22GN I PURCHASED FROM BIG TEX BRAKES NEVER WORKED FROM DAY ONE& SPRING HANGER WELD BROKE LOSS FROM FRAME FATALITY 10/24/15

Manufacturer communications

A bulletin sent by a manufacturer to its dealers. Not a recall, and repairs are not necessarily free.

EQUIPMENT ADAPTIVE/MOBILITY; EQUIPMENT:OTHER:LABELS

This Customer Advisory provides instructions for the application of labels relating to the proper storage of the Mega Ramp option on their trailer during transport.

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
