The defect: BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2023-2024 Toyota Supra, 2022-2025 2 Series Coupe, 2021-2023 5 Series, 2022-2026 Z4, 2023-2024 4 Series Gran Coupe, 4 Series Convertible, 4 Series Coupe, 3 Series, 2021-2025 X4, and 2021-2024 X3 vehicles. Please see the recall report for a complete list of all models. The engine starter may overheat and catch fire due to wear on an internal component.
The risk: Fire increases the risk of injury.
The remedy: Dealers will replace the engine starter, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on August 31, 2026. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417 or Toyota's customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning August 28, 2026. This recall is an expansion of previous NHTSA recall 26V056.

The defect: BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling certain 2024 2 Series Coupe (230i), 330i, X3 sDrive30i, X3 xDrive30i, X3 M40i, and X4 xDrive30i, X4 M40i vehicles. The steering gear may not have been tightened properly, which can allow it to loosen.
The risk: A loose steering gear can cause a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.
The remedy: Dealers will replace the steering gear, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 11, 2024. Owners may contact BMW customer service at 1-800-525-7417.

The contact owns a 2024 BMW 230I. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 26V438000 (Electrical System); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact had not experienced a failure.

The contact owns a 2024 BMW 230I. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 26V438000(ELECTRICAL SYSTEM); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The local dealer was contacted, and it was confirmed that the part was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact stated that at start-up, the vehicle was shaking, vibrating, and had shut off unexpectedly. Additionally, while operating the vehicle, the check engine warning light remained illuminated. The failure mileage was 15,000.

Fire reported

Vehicle was parked at approximately 3:45 PM. While parked, the vehicle engine caught fire sometime in the next hour, approximately. Many eyewitnesses stated that nobody was seen near the vehicle as it started smoking, and then caught fire, with multiple explosions heard. The engine was completely destroyed, but the passenger cabin did not seem to be impacted. BMW has several recalls out for engines catching fire - this model was not included in this recall, but clearly needs to be.

The Central Information Display (CID) side of the Multifunction Display (MFD) may flicker intermittently. Theflickering manifests itself in three phases: The image is distorted The central information display turns black (black screen) The image is OK again The complete flickering episode with all the above-mentioned three phases only lasts about half a second intotal each time.

Due to an implementation error in various OBD diagnostics in the vehicle's control units, in very rare cases itmay happen that stored fault memory codes (DTCs) and the MIL (warning light) are not automaticallydeleted even though the underlying malfunction has already been rectified.
