2024 BMW X7 Brakes Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the brake system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Brakes reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Subject: Failure to Perform Safety Recall 24V-739 / Brake System Failure Description of the Problem:"My 2024 BMW X7 (VIN: [XXX] ) is currently experiencing a critical failure of the Integrated Brake (IB) module, which is part of the active Safety Recall 24V-739. The dashboard displays the message 'Drive carefully. Brake system.' I have contacted BMW AG [XXX] ) and BMW North America multiple times over the past 3 weeks, but they have failed to provide authorization for the repair at the authorized service center (Improtex Motors). The manufacturer is knowingly allowing a vehicle with a life-threatening brake defect to remain on the road by delaying the recall remedy. This is gross negligence regarding a mandatory safety recall." Sincerely, [XXX] Tel / WhatsApp: [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

SUMMARY: INTEGRATED BRAKE: The Integrated Brake (IB) system may not have been produced by the supplier according to specifications. If the IB system was not functioning properly, a warning lamp and message will be displayed in the instrument cluster. In August, this recall was expanded to include additional potentially affected vehicles. SAFETY RISK: In some cases, there will be a reduction in power assist braking, which could lead to an extended stopping distance and increase the risk of a crash. The Antilock Brake System (ABS) and Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system may not function, which could also affect braking performance as well as vehicle handling and control. However, fully mechanical braking is not affected and, if the IB system is not functioning properly, the parking (emergency) brake will be automatically activated to aid in braking performance and help maintain vehicle stability and control. REMEDY: The Integrated Brake (IB) system will be replaced for free by an authorized BMW center which should take about two to three hours. RECALL STATUS: Recall INCOMPLETE. Remedy not yet available This recall was issued on February 12, 2024, more than a year ago and the manufacturer has informed that the parts to fix this issue is on backorder. This is a safety issue.

The contact owns a 2024 BMW X7. The contact stated that after test driving a similar vehicle, the contact decided to purchase a similar vehicle; however, while writing up the contract, the salesperson added the incorrect VIN on the sales contract. The contact had been receiving notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V104000 (Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Service Brake, Hydraulic); however, the VIN listed on the recall notice was for the vehicle test driven, not the actual vehicle that was purchased. The contact had not yet received a recall notification for the vehicle owned. The contact requested to be removed from the recall distribution list for the incorrect VIN, and for the correct VIN to be added. The local dealer was contacted. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue but offered no assistance.

I’ve had multiple issues starting with a left tail light/left brake malfunction. Took my vehicle into Sewell Grapevine and they replaced the left taillight and module. After picking up my vehicle, I began having issues with my dash within a couple days of the repair mentioned above. The assisted parking began turning on by itself when the vehicle came to a complete stop. This happened multiple times while driving. I have multiple videos. I uploaded a screen shot. The dash also turned black. Returned my vehicle to Sewell, they said they recalibrated the rear view mirror and checked the connections. On [XXX] while driving home, the vehicle had an inability to drive sos call emergency services malfunction come up multiple times. The car lost all power and the steering wheel was trying to correct the vehicle until you lifted your foot off the gas peddle. This also happened multiple times while spring in excess of 70 mph on the freeway. As of today, Feb 26, 2025, my vehicle is currently at Sewell in Grapevine, Tx with no plan from the dealership on how to correct these issues. This is the second X7, same body style, that I have owned with serious safety issues like this. Sewell Grapevine had to buy back the first vehicle as they were unable to repair the first one. The vehicle brakes have stopped working on this vehicle three times. The Integrated brake system has been worked on several times with loss of brake power happening while I have infants int he car with me several times. The BMW dealership, BMW Fort Washington in Pennsylvania, ahs failed to repair it several times despite requests. I lost braking power today and almost hit two different vehicles which I barely avoided by taking dangerous evasive action. Numerous warning lights came on inside the vehicle: 1) "Drive carefully. Brake System" 2) "Parking Brake" 3) "Reduced Driver Assistance" 4) "Recall or Technical Campaign" This is the third time this has happened. I was in less than two weeks ago and the B<W dealership assured me the vehicle was safe to drive despite the warning lights being on and the recall light being active. They told me nothing to worry about and this happened this morning. This is unacceptable.

The car is unsafe to drive due to a brake recall safety issue. The dealer instructed me to leave the vehicle and obtain my loaner car, as they do not provide this service despite the car warranty. Additionally, the electronic system turns on by itself, causing the car to turn on and off, making it unsafe to drive.

While driving the vehicle I received a "drivetrain malfunction" message and the vehicle engine stopped and refused to start. The vehicle message further indicated that the vehicle was not driveable to contact the service center. The vehicle has been previously serviced for this same issue and the dealer indicated it was a known issue, but there was no solution offered by the manufacturer at this time. There was no initial warning this would occur or ability to safely pull over before it occured. The event occured in the middle of the roadway while driving, and there not sufficient time to safely exit the roadway, and the immediate decrease in speed was a significant safety issue to ourselves and other vehicles on the road.

Unknown. Outstanding recall on brakes that has no update on resolution. My VIN wasn't part of the initial February 2024 recall, but I purchased my vehicle in March 2024. There was no disclosure about the initial recall when I was purchasing the vehicle. It's only been since October that I was notified that my VIN is now part of this brake recall. Online searches and an email with my dealership have been no help in any updates to resolving this issue.

Dealer Braman BMW West Palm Beach Florida has voice that new lot vehicles of the same kind will have priority over the vehicles on the road. They will not check vehicle unless the system fails; this is in my opinion unacceptable and I have genuine and justifiable fear and I will not have my family drive this vehicle unless someone tells me it is safe otherwise. Breaks are noisy when stopping; furthermore, when vehicle auto-turns-on the vehicles pushes forward even when breaks are applied in a stop light or stop sign pushing you into traffic or the vehicle in front of you.

I brought my vehicle to my dealer in March to have my brake system repaired as there was a known recall on this vehicle and was told there is no remedy available but it was safe to drive. The power brake booster in my 2024 BMW X7 failed on October 17, 2024 while I was driving downhill with a child in the car around a blind turn. I was not able to stop for several hundred feet and would have potentially killed a pedestrian, myself or my child who was in the car with me if this happened on a road where there was more traffic. I relayed this to the BMW executive team and was told that they will not buy my vehicle back because they will fix the part now that it failed. They said that they did not have enough parts to issue to all the affected vehicles so unless the part fails they are not doing anything about it at this time. This has been going on for 8 months. This recall is still outstanding on about 80,000 vehicles at this time. TI am not confident that the part is going to work. If they have a fix why arent they pulling ALL the recalled vehicles off the road? The power brake booster was confirmed as failing by my local BMW dealership. The only time a warning light came on was when my booster failed, and at that point it was too late to do anything to get to safety.
