What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2014 Buick Verano, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Each component in detail
What the reports in each category say, in the owners' own words
Electrical
Reports naming the electrical system — wiring, battery, charging, control modules, infotainment and electrical accessories.
From owner reports, verbatim
I would be driving then radio would blink off and the steering would lose power but the car does not shut off. Radio will come back on and then able to steer again. Ac blower is stop or get low. Lights will blink dim on dash and headlights.I took it to the shop and they can’t find the problem. The car shop googled this and a lot of Buick Veranos have this same problem but can’t find a solution. I need answers because its dangerous to drive and loose steering. This has happened over 6 times in less than a month
Vehicle hesitating when attempting to accelerate. No power or minimal momentum when pressing on gas pedal. Transmission control module would randomly drop out and loose communication at the same time the body control module thought the vehicle was in park. It would lock and unlock the doors multiple times and the car would jerk uncontrollably. Extremely unsafe while mobile. Issue first occurred randomly summer of 2023 and has progressively gotten worse. Now it occurs at least once every 2 weeks.
Powertrain (other)
Powertrain reports that are not specifically the engine or transmission — driveshafts, axles, transfer cases and differentials.
From owner reports, verbatim

The contact owns a 2014 Buick Verano. The contact stated that after his daughter started the vehicle and attempted to shift into drive, the gear selector briefly failed to move into drive. Upon shifting into drive, the contact stated that while his daughter was driving at an undisclosed speed, she became aware that the electronic power steering was not functioning properly, requiring an increased effort to maneuver the vehicle, prompting her to discontinue driving the vehicle. The power steering warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the gear selector lever. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 100,000.
Engine
Reports naming the engine itself — including stalling, misfires, oil consumption, cooling and internal engine components.
From owner reports, verbatim

Car keeps stalling and the service power steering warning comes on the dash as well as the service air bag. Then the car speed drops to around 20 mph and won’t go any faster and then when you stop at a stop sign or something the car acts like it doesn’t want to go
Driver assistance
Reports naming forward-collision avoidance, lane keeping, back-over prevention, cruise control and related electronic driver-assistance systems.
From owner reports, verbatim
Blind spot warning began displaying at startup. Turn signal bell and dash illuminators failed intermittently while driving. A Google search revealed the location of blind spot radar module. Inspected right rear module (located in bumper) and found corrosion. Difficult to remove module because of swollen internals. Pried open module after removal to expose corrosion damage to radar cells. The module mount location is openly exposed to road grime and salt. This infiltrated the module and ruined it because the module cover (white panel) is too thinly sealed.
The dash warning light indicated the blind spot warning system needs service. The passenger side warning light on the side view mirror stopped working. Subsequent internet searches indicated that the bumper module has gone bad. No response from the dealership yet. Other repair shops have quoted $400 to $860 to repair. This is a safety issue.
Steering
Reports naming the steering system — racks, columns, power-steering assist and steering linkage.
From owner reports, verbatim

Passenger air bag system shuts off with passenger in vehicle. Message displays to service air bag system. It doesn't always shut off. It's very random when it will shut off or be working. This is a hazard to any passenger in this vehicle.
Other / unspecified
Reports whose component NHTSA recorded as unknown, or that do not map to one of the categories above.
From owner reports, verbatim
THE CAR HAS CONTINENTAL TIRES ON IT . THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE HAS A BIG BUBBLE ON THE SIDEWALL. IF YOU RESEARCH THIS PROBLEM YOU WILL SEE CONTINENTAL TIRES HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THEIR SIDE WALLS
LOW PROFILE TIRES: A ROCK HIT MY TIRE-TIRED DESTROYED-HIT SMALL HOLE APPROXIMATELY 4 IN DEEP ABOUT 6 INCHES WIDE TIRE BLEW. TODAY WIFE BACKING UP HIT ROUNDED CORNER TIRE BLEW. CONTINENTAL TIRES LOW PROFILE ARE UNSAFE. I DO NOT TRUST THEM AND DEALERS. TELL ME THEY ARE CHANGING TIRES BY MULTIPLE TIMES DUE TO LOW PROFILE. TIRES ARE 235X45X 18 PRO H . I BELIEVE THEY ARE A SAFETY HAZARD .
Brakes
Reports naming service brakes, the antilock braking system, brake hoses, master cylinders or the parking brake.
From owner reports, verbatim
Vehicle started flashing multiple indicators on the dashboard, including those related to the charging system. Radio screen went off and then the power steering lost electrical boost while turning the steering wheel. Radio screen came back on its own but then it started cycling among its options (AM, FM, Bluetooth, etc) until settling in FM radio. Second occurrence was similar, although with different manifestations with the dashboard indicators although most concerning behavior dealt with the steering loosing boost almost causing an accident. Have reconnected the battery (changed about 4 months ago, currently showing 12.38V) and retighten the connections to the poles. Retightened the cables going to ground (they were NOT loose).
The car stalls in traffic and the air conditioning will stop working and remote start doesn't work although I have paid for it to be fixed. You can just be driving along the car will stop and not start. It has stalled 6 times in mid traffic putting my life and my children's life in danger we almost was hit by other cars on the highway because the car stopped suddenly. I had the car towed to the Shortline Buick GMC 1301 S Havana St. Aurora, CO. 80012 because of this and they charged me $1000 and only change filters did not fix the car or the remote start. This on or around October 13, 2020.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 BUICK VERANO EQUIPPED WITH CONTINENTAL CONTACT TIRES, SIZE: P235/45R/1894H (NA). THE CONTACT OBSERVED THAT ALL FOUR TIRES WERE RUNNING LOW ON AIR. THE FAILURE WAS PERSISTENT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE WAS REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE LOCAL DEALER (JEFF WYLER FLORENCE BUICK GMC, 1154 BURLINGTON PIKE, FLORENCE, KY 41042) STATED THAT THE TIRES WERE NOT DEFECTIVE. THE VIN WAS PROVIDED. THE TIRE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE DOT NUMBER WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE TIRE AND VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 38,000.
I HAD A BLOW OUT ON INSIDE OF PASSENGER SIDE FRONT TIRE, WHEN I TOOK IT TO GET REPLACED THEY NOTICED I ALSO HAD A LARGE BUBBLE ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE DRIVER FRONT TIRE.

Newly purchased delivery of 2014 Buick Verano. from Auto Deal Makers in Chantilly, Va. Not even 5 miles driven, car was hesitant at 20mph, felt like it was going to stall out at 40mph, my left upper lip started tingling, my kids felt sick as we all experienced a heavy taste & smell of burnt oil in the cabin of the car. Two hours later my kids & I still could not get the taste of burnt oil off our tongues and back of our throats even after eating. Contacted GM & Chevy although they are fully aware of the defect they refuse to accept responsibility. The tingling has now reached my chin as though my children and I have been affected by some form of toxic chemical poisoning. This was the first time I ever drove my newly purchased vehicle, and have been poisoned myself & my kids by the toxic fumes the car is emitting. Total recalls should be done, and full compensation to consumers. GM & Chevy are fully aware of the defects and should be held responsible and accountable for the dangerously hazardous fumes that they are knowingly allowing unsuspecting consumers to become victims of their neglect and found guilty of all laws created to protect consumers, and the environment for these defective vehicles and found guilty pursuant to any and all Lemon Laws pertaining to aforementioned toxic chemical exposure. All of these makes/models that have similar issues should be recalled immediately for the safety and health of the consumers, and the environment.

Visibility
Reports naming windshields, glass, wipers, defrosters and mirrors.
From owner reports, verbatim
A "Service Side Detection Error" is causing multiple electrical issues in the front dash: prevent defrost and heat from working in the middle of a Vermont winter. This prevents me from seeing where I am going. This has also caused erratic problems with any function/feature on my electric panel, and erratic errors that come and go. There is a VERY HIGH NUMBER of Buick drivers who have had this error with the SAME EXACT issues. The sensors in the back wheel wells are not water proof. They get corroded. Additionally, after the sensors are replace, Buick requires the computer be reprogrammed only through them. non-GM service centers literally cannot reprogram them. I plan to get on each forum to request all drivers with this error file reports with NHTSA. I don't feel enough drivers know that they should/could do this and just end up paying this repair because they are just barely out of warranty, or GM says it is not covered. I also home to start a class-action lawsuit as electric panel issues involving our heating/cooling system fans and defrost, and other random electric problems related to this are vital to a drivers safety.
THE SIDE DETECTION SYSTEM HAS FAILED SO I NO LONGER HAVE MIRROR BLIND SPOT PROTECTION. THE PROBLEM IS ALSO CAUSING PROBLEMS WITH THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FAILING. THE ISSUE IS EXACTLY LIKE THE ONE COVERED BY BULLITEN 16-NA-178 FOR OTHER GM VEHICLES OF THE SAME MODEL YEARS WHICH USE THE SAME SYSTEM. GM SHOULD RECALL ALL THE CARS THAT USED THIS SYSTEM, NOT JUST SOME AS IT IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AS THE WHOLE CLUSTER CAN GO DEAD WHILE THE CAR IS BEING DRIVEN.

CAR WOULD NOT START. BATTERY TOTALLY DEAD. COULD NOT EVEN GET THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION. AAA CAME AND JUMPED BATTERY, FOUND NO CAUSE OR REASON FOR THE PROBLEM. CAR IS USED EVERY DAY; THIS PROBLEM WAS FOUND IN THE MORNING AFTER SITTING IN THE GARAGE ALL NIGHT. NO SIGN OF ANYTHING LEFT ON OR ANYTHING CAUSING THE DEAD BATTERY. BATTERY TOOK CHARGE AND CAR PERFORM WELL UNTIL 09/19/2015 WHEN THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. DEALER SAYS NO CAUSE FOUND OR KNOWN. THIS HAS BEEN REPORTED BY OTHERS ON THIS MODEL AND ALSO ON 2012 AND 2013 MODELS.

The contact stated he pressed the shift knob several times and the vehicle shifted into drive(D). The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the shift knob needed to be replaced. On another occasion, the contact stated while driving 50 MPH, the steering wheel lock released and would not lock into place. The vehicle was also taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the shaft needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired; however, the dealer added a screw for the steering wheel to remain in place. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure.
