1992 Chevrolet Astro Interior & seats Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the interior system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Interior & seats reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

I WAS ALONE IN MY VEHICLE, AND HAD JUST PARKED AT MY DESTINATION. I WAS LEANING BACK IN MY SEAT REACHING FOR MY SEAT BELT RELEASE WHEN THE SEAT BROKE FREE ALLOWING FOR A ROCKING MOTION. I INSPECTED THE SEAT MYSELF WHEN I RETURNED HOME AND DISCOVERED THAT THE FRAME STEEL SUPPORTING THE BOTTOM OF THE DRIVER'S SIDE, 6-WAY POWER SEAT FATIQUED AND BROKE, ALLOWING THE ROCKING MOTION TO OCCUR. FULLY CLOTHED, I WEIGH LESS THAN 160LBS AND FELT THE METAL FAILURE MUST BE DUE TO A DEFECT. I CONTACTED THE CHEVROLET CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER (01-FEB-1999) AND WAS GIVEN FILE NUMBER 990054464. ADRIAN, THE CHEVROLET REPRESENTATIVE TAKING MY CALL TOLD ME THAT THEY COULD NOT ASSIST ME WITH THE REPLACEMENT OF THE SEAT DUE TO THE AGE AND MILEAGE ON MY VEHICLE.
