What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Airbags
Reports naming the air-bag system — deployment behaviour, inflators, sensors and warning lights.
From owner reports, verbatim
First recall, Only dealer on Island (Hawaii) went out of business and couldn't be done by a GM dealer. Windshield washer fluid heater was removed by a mechanic shop at my own expense. Second recall, The passenger airbag inflator hasn't been done due to the fact that 2007 - 2014 Chevy Avalanche, Tahoe, Suburban & GMC Yukon are known for cracked dashboards which includes my Avalanche. My dashboard was cracked before the airbag recall and I covered the dashboard with fiberglass mat and resin to repair it as a new dashboard was not covered by warranty and exceeded over $2,000.00 to replace. The area to access the airbag is sealed and would require a new dashboard. There is now a new Chevy dealer here that can do the recall but I would have to pay the cost to replace the dashboard so it hasn't been done as I'm not able or willing to pay for the additional expense.
Airbag warning won't go says my airbag is disabled

Engine
Reports naming the engine itself — including stalling, misfires, oil consumption, cooling and internal engine components.
From owner reports, verbatim
Traveling hiway on cruise. My 5.3l down shifted to accelerate to go up an incline. Shortly after that there was low to almost no power. Check engine light then came on. I was able to do 30mph on freeway to get it home. Took it to a local garage since gray Daniels chevy wouldn’t service it since I recently transitioned to MS. The problem was the #4 lifter had collapsed. It costed me just shy of $4k out of pocket. I’ve read that this was a recall item for my vehicle, I was never notified. I would like to be compensated if this was indeed a recall item

STABILTY LIGHT CAME ON, LOSS OF POWER, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, ROUGH SHIFTING INTO 2 GEAR. IT HAS BEEN DOWN FOR 2 YEARS. AND NOT FIXED YET, CHEVY DEALERSHIP DOES NOT KNOW WHAT TPO DO. THERE NEEDS TOBE A RECALL ON THE FLEX FUEL. WE WERE GOING DOWN I-20 WHEN ALL THIS HAPPENED. THERE WAS NEARLY AN ACCIDENT
Seat belts
Reports naming seat belts, buckles, retractors and pretensioners.
From owner reports, verbatim
Was going down the road and there was a big load bang or pop that sounded like a bomb went and the seatbelts sucked us back and locked us in place and then the service airbag light came on the light stays on the seatbelts are locked up can remove and it was like the air bags says will no longer deploy/work and now can't use the seatbelts and the law says no seatbelt use we get a ticket so now can't drive truck unless I want a ticket. So what do I do now I am disabled and this my only vehicle that I need to get to the doctors with so how to get it fixed is the manufacturer responsibility. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET AVALANCHE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DASHBOARD STARTED TO FRACTURE NEAR THE PASSENGER'S SIDE AIR BAG HOUSING AND ALSO CLOSE TO THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SAM LEMAN AUTOMOTIVE GROUP (1502 MORRISSEY DR, BLOOMINGTON, IL 61701, (309) 663-4311) WHERE THE DASHBOARD WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000.
MY MAIN CONCERN IS THE FACT THAT THE VEHICLE BURNS EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF OIL. I HAVE LODGED ABOUT FIVE COMPLAINTS WITH OURISMAN ROCKMONT CHEVROLET AND MY CONCERNS REMAINED UNADRESSED. THEY DID, ON ONE OCCASION, CHANGE A GASKET COVER AND OIL PAN GASKET, BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. FINALLY, I WAS RECENTLY TOLD THAT I NEEDED AN OIL DEFLECTOR PER A SERVICE BULLETIN AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD COST NEARLY $1,500.00. ALTHOUGH MY CONCERNS WERE ALL MADE DURING THE WARRANTY PERIOD, OURISMAN IS ATTEMPTING TO CHARGE ME NOW THAT MY VEHICLE IS OUTSIDE THE WARRANTY. I CONTACTED CHEVY CUSTOMER SERVICE BUT NO LUCK. *TR

TWO WEEKS AGO DRIVING 60MPH ON HIGHWAY IN SNOW ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATES AND LOSE TOTAL POWER. "REDUCE POWER MODE" ILLUMINATED BUT ENGINE SHUT OFF. WE ALMOST GOT REAR ENDED BY A TRACTOR TRAILER ON [XXX]. ON SIDE OF ROAD FOR 2 HRS IN 20 DEGREE WEATHER WAITING ON AAA (NO SHOULDER ON HWAY) AND MOTOR STARTS. TAKE IT TO GARAGE AND GET THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR (TPS) CODE ANS STABILITRAK/ABS CODE. WE HAD ACCIDENTALLY HIT THE ONSTAR BUTTON A MINUTE BEFORE THIS AND MECHANIC THOUGHT THAT WAS RELATED SO HE CLEARED CODE AND SENT US ON OUR WAY. FOR TWO WEEKS WE WERE GOOD ANDIT HAPPENED AGAIN ON HIGHWAY IN RAIN [XXX] THIS WEEKEND, AGAIN IN MIDDLE OF HIGHWAY. THIS TIME CAR STARTED AFTER FIVE MINUTES. TOOK CAR TO DEALER AND THEY STATE THE TPS NEEDS REPLACING AND FRONT WHEEL SPEED SENSOR BROKEN. THERE IS A GM SERVICE BULLETIN #11273B WHERE GM ACKNOWLEDGES TPS ISSUE AND COVERS REPLACEMENT OF TPS FOR 2008-2011 VEHICLES. ALSO BULLETIN PIP3089B FOR BAD WIRING TO TPS FOR 2003-2006 AVALANCHES. GM DENIED MY SERVICE DESPITE THE FACT THAT A 2007 TPS AND THROTTLE BODY ARE THE SAME EXACT PART NUMBER AS THE DEFECTIVE ONE. THIS IS SUPER DANGEROUS AND EXTREMELY FREQUENT AS THERE ARE 550 POSTS ALONE ON [XXX] AS WELL AS MANY REPORTS TO [XXX] PLEASE ASSIST AS THEY ARE NOT STANDING BEHIND A DEFECTIVE AND DEADLY PRODUCT AS THE COMPUTER CUTS TOTAL POWER RIGHT ON HIGHWAY... Suspension
Reports naming suspension components — springs, struts, shocks, control arms and related hardware.
From owner reports, verbatim
We are repair facility. on or about 5/2/2023 the vehicle was towed into our shop with the right front wheel bearing sheared off - the customer stated he did not have any impact/accident with the vehicle. We noted that the wheel bearing still rotated - no explanation on why the hub would shear off. At the time, we inspected the entire front suspension (with extra emphasis on the left front bearing/hub assembly) and found no deficiencies. On, or about 5/19/23 the vehicle was towed into the shop - the left front hub/wheel bearing assembly had sheared off. In 30+ years in business, we've never seen a hub shaft sheer - let alone 2 on the same vehicle

WITH 64,000 MILES THE DASH IS CRACKING IN MULTIPLE PLACES. IF REFLECTS THE BROKEN AREA ONTO THE WINDSHIELD SO IT IMPEDES VISION AND COULD AFFECT THE AIRBAG AS IT IS BROKEN AROUND THE AREA. AFTER RESEARCHING ONLINE MOST OWNERS HAVE THIS DASH CRACKING ISSUE AROUND THE AIRBAG AND UPPER DASH. IF THE AIRBAG WAS TO DEPLOY IT WOULD MOST LIKELY EJECT HARD PLASTIC PARTS AT YOU WITH THE AIRBAG.
