2014 Chevrolet Cheverolet SS Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2014 Chevrolet Cheverolet SS, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

My seatbelt cable broke on 8/9/2021. I put the belt on and as I was adjusting the belts, the belt/cable that is attached to the floor by driver side door broke. I took it to the Chevrolet dealership to get it fixed and I did see that there was a recall on my model, but my VIN wasn’t listed so the dealership was gonna charge me for the repair. My car has the same issue with the recall but they wanted to charge me to get it fixed even though it was a safety issue! It’s not my fault that the cable broke! It’s Chevrolets’! (NHTSA Recall 16V518) So I’ve been driving without a seatbelt now for 8 days. The dealership didn’t even sound concerned that I could have gone thru my windshield if I were in a wreck! Yes, they actually let me leave the dealership without a seatbelt! No more Chevrolets for me!

I was in the driver seat. I put my seatbelt on and adjusted the belts and pulled the whole seatbelt out!. I had to drive home without a seatbelt. Pretty scary.

NHTSA ID 11678464 · filed Aug 5, 2025

The ONstar module has very high idle power drain. As a result of this, my car battery died when not driven for a week, regardless of the condition/age of the battery. This has occured consistently since I bought the car new and has left me stranded on multiple occasions. This problem has been addressed in the 2015 model years of my car but the recall never applied to my 2014 car, which has the exact same battery drain issue (see SB-10057076-5170 and bulletin no. 14395). I just want the manufacturer to address this so I can get my car fixed without paying a ridiculous price.

Driver side mirror blind spot monitoring system suddenly “steady burns”. Will not light up when another vehicle is in vehicles blind spot. BSM stays on even after the car is off and has been off for prolonged periods of time (30+ minutes) leading to the battery draining. This could lead to the car giving the operator false information about cars appearing in the blindspot

THE TRIM IN THE CHEVROLET SS 2014 IS HIGHLY REFLECTIVE AND DURING PERIODS OF HIGH SUN THE DRIVER IS SIMPLY BLINDED BY THE TRIM AROUND GPS UNIT, AROUND SHIFTER, AND EVEN THE LITTLE CIRCLE AROUND THE START BUTTON IS ENOUGH TO BLIND A DRIVER. THIS HAPPENED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS AND WAS STRONG ENOUGH FOR ME TO TRY AND COVER IT OR BLOCK IT WHILE DRIVING OR BY PUTTING A HAND IN FRONT OF MY FACE. WEARING SUN GLASSES DOES NOT HELP UNLESS THEY COVER THE FULL 180 DEGREES AS THE REFLECTION HITS FROM THE SIDE. THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE AND THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT IT ON SSFORUMS.COM WITH PEOPLE PAINTING THE TRIM AND CUSTOMIZING IT INTO ANY COLOR OTHER THEN THE CURRENT, ON BRAND NEW CARS! GM ALREADY HAS THE SAME TRIM IN BLACK IN AUSTRALIA ON THE SV6 SEDAN AND CAN REMEDY THIS ISSUE. I HAVE ALREADY SPOKEN WITH CHEVY SUPPORT WHO FREQUENT SSOFORUMS.COM AND THEY CONTACTED LORI (SERVICE MANAGER) AT 86TH ST CHEVROLET IN BROOKLYN, NY AND I WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO FOR ME. FOR THIS REASON, I AM RAISING MY CONCERN HERE AS THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT ALREADY HAS A FIX IN PLACE BUT NOBODY IS WILLING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. *JS

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
