2019 Chevrolet Colorado Problems

Owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA, grouped by component

Data refreshed

Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

What this page shows

Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2019 Chevrolet Colorado, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.

Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Reports by component

Ranked by how many owner reports name each component category

Percentages are of component mentions. A single complaint can name more than one component, so these do not sum to the total complaint count.

Torque converter shutter makes vehicle lunge forward while driving. Feels like something pushes you from behind. On a wet road and especially in a curve this could cause rear wheels to slide.

The infotainment system is not functioning. The screen will come on as I turn on the truck, then it goes blank. Sometimes it flashes and then goes black. I cannot use any of my apps or connect to Apple CarPlay. This has been going on for months now. I have complained to Chevrolet and the dealership. They have failed to provide a solution. This truck only has 35,000 miles on it. We can no longer take it on trips because we have no navigation, especially in areas where wi-fi may be hard to connect to by just our phones. We have followed all the trouble shooting provided in the Chevy app or online and nothing helps.

NHTSA ID 11738666 · filed May 18, 2026

I purchased my truck from Karl Chevrolet in Ankeny, IA around September of 2019. Approximately 1.5 years after purchasing the vehicle, I began having issues with my infotainment system intermittently resetting itself while I was driving. On or about the end of 2021 (after this had occurred a few time), I brought the truck into the Karl Chevrolet in Ankeny, IA, as it seemed to become more frequent of an occurrence. The technician told me that this thing happens all the time with the infotainment systems and it was nothing to be concerned about and because it was intermittent, they may not be able to identify the issue unless it was actively occurring and I was told to come back in if it continued to happen. Shortly after, I had moved to [XXX] in April of 2022, I began to have more frequent issues with the infotainment system randomly resetting and eventually it began impacting phone calls, where people would cut in and out or disconnect, beginning to cause even more of a safety and distraction issue. After conducting some of my own research, I learned that I was not the only one that had issues with the infotainment system in the 2019 Colorado and that GM had published several Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) regarding the infotainment system, and there had been a class action lawsuit, [XXX] , et al. v. General Motors LLC, that covers the same issues I am having. On January 29, 2025, after the issue progressively getting worse, I took the truck to Gregg Young Chevrolet in Omaha, NE. After conducting a diagnosis they verbally confirmed there were TSBs regarding radio issues that after contacting the GM service center, GM's response was to replace the radio. This was to be at my own cost however, considering GM confirmed through TSBs there are issues with the infotainment system, coupled with safety concerns around distracted driving, I felt compelled to make this complaint. In and out of the shop for the last 3.5 years (Warranty is expired now) with multiple engin codes (CEL). Most having to do with the fuel delivery systems. Most common P026D, and P1089. It has been in the shop at least 6 or more times. GM won't stand by their product. Since the warranty ended I've put mor than $4,000 in to repairs for this and now I'm told it will cost me anouther $6000 to $7000 to repair. I bout this truck used with 60,000 miles on it and paid cash $50,000 to the dealer the originally sold it to the previous owner. I just want them to fix the issue once and for all. To date they have just thrown parts at it but it never fixes the problem. They have changed the MAP sensor, the fuel rail and pressure regulator, the injectors, and they've re-wired part of the wiring harness. None of this has solved the issues.

You will be driving down the road and then the power steering goes in and out so stops working and then starts working again. Not safe especially on the highway. No lights go on on the dash. Chevy is currently trying to figure out the problem but has not yet.

The steering wheel would not turn right while driving. The steering rack failed. The truck has only 10000 miles on it. We almost wrecked because of this defect. No warning messages appeared. The vehicle was inspected and the failure was confirmed by an independent service center.

VIN: [XXX]. 2019 Chevy Colorado, ~115,000 mi. FAILED COMPONENT: Vacuum pump failed internally; debris damaged the exhaust camshaft. Pump is cam-driven with no shear pin, so seizure cuts brake assist AND sends metal debris into the engine. Truck/parts are at Chapman Chevrolet, Tempe AZ, available for inspection. SAFETY RISK: On XXX, brake pedal suddenly lost assist while my son merged onto XXX from [XXX]. Pedal effort/stopping distance increased with no warning - high risk of collision merging into highway traffic. CONFIRMED BY DEALER: Yes. Chapman Chevrolet confirmed vacuum pump failure and camshaft damage, consistent with GM TSB 21-NA-268 (drive-lug failure). OTHER INSPECTIONS: Dealer only so far; not yet by GM, police, or insurance. Available if needed. PRIOR SYMPTOMS: None. There were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms prior to the sudden brake assist failure on 7/1/26. This is a known failure mode on GM's cam-driven vacuum pump (TSB 21-NA-268; Special Coverage XXX covers 2014-2017 trucks/SUVs but not this 2019 Colorado despite same design). Requesting investigation into whether this is an unaddressed defect on 2018-2019+ Colorado/Canyon 2.5L trucks, and whether recall/extended coverage is warranted. The contact owns a 2019 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact's husband stated that while driving 20 MPH, while attempting to turn into a parking lot, and another vehicle was attempting to exit the same parking lot, the brake pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to respond. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact's husband depressed the brake pedal, the brake pedal seized, and the contact had to veer and downshift to first gear to avoid crashing into the other vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle with vacuum pump failure and a fractured part from the vacuum camshaft. The vehicle was not fully repaired. The local dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not repaired by the dealer because the vehicle was not under recall and parts were on back order, as per the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

I recently purchased a certified 2019 Chevy Colorado z71 on June 26, 2023 from Healey Chevrolet in Poughkeepsie N.Y. while test driving the vehicle I brought to the attention of the sales person that there was a vibration in front left wheel at which time the dealer rotated tires and realigned the vehicle, shortly after picking the vehicle up while driving home the vibration started again and progressively got worse the more I drove as well as the steering becoming very stiff and took effort to turn wheel. I contacted dealer took vehicle back at which time the salesperson test drove it and agreed there was a problem the dealer then replaced the rack and realigned shortly after picking vehicle up while driving the problem started again and got worse the further I drove now vehicle has a mild vibration in front left when driving between 40-50 mph contacted dealer spoke to service manager who stated he wasnt aware of any vibration I explained it was coming back on Monday July 17, 2023 for paint touch up to please see whats going on, later same day took truck to go to store while driving the steering again became very tight as I was turning into parking lot power steering went out almost causing me to hit another car contacted dealer vehicle towed to dealer. was contacted by Ray from service who told me no codes were found and could not duplicate issue said tech drove it and found no vibration he asked for permission to drive home to check it I explained to him I have 2010 silverado 1500 with 200,000 miles that I plow with that steers better than this I also explained my brother owns exact truck same year every except his more miles and steers perfect, I also mentioned that a friend that is a gm tech said theres tsbs on these trucks for this issue he stated he had no knowledge of such which is strange since I clearly see them online. I am afraid to drive it. something isnt right. I love truck otherwise just want it fixed.

COMPONENETS FAILING: Passenger side headlight and blinker keep failing. Driver side running light keeps failing to illuminate. Driver side rear brake lights keep failing. Rear passenger side reverse light and blinker failing to illuminate. SAFETY: I have no way to safely drive in the dark or daylight because the blinkers and headlight are failing to work properly. INSPECTION and CONFIRMATION: The problem keeps reproducing itself about every month or so since purchase, July 4th of 2022. The dealership has attempted to work on the problem four times already. Three times at the same dealership and once at another auto shop. The dealership is the only one that has inspected it. They have been in communication with the engineers on multiple occasions. KNOWN PARTS REPLACED AT THIS TIME: The BCM, wiring harness, fuses, and fuse box have all been replaced since September of 2022 to now, March 7 2023. WARNING MESSAGES RECIEVED: The only warning messages I have gotten are blinker failure, break light failure, head light failure.

I was stopped, and given a warning by a police officer for having no tail lights whatsoever. All other lights were functioning, and they had been fine the day before. These vehicles have four identical stop and tail lamp bulbs. I tested with my multimeter, and found that there was current at the socket. I replaced all four bulbs. Upon inspection, I determined that a SINGLE bulb of the four had a broken filament. It seems ridiculous that one bulb failing should cause the other three to go off duty. What is the point of two bulbs on each side, if they all quit when one dies?
