2015 Chevrolet Impala Engine Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the engine system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Engine reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

The stabiltrac light comes on,sometimes I lose power. Sometimes the back up camera doesn’t work. Sometimes the parking brake light comes on the dash. Then ieverything will suddenly go away and everything is fine, only to have the same problems. This has been happening for months. I took it to the dealer multiple times and they are unable to fix it.

My left hand (front bank) catalytic converter near the cylinder head fell off yesterday at the mounting flange. It landed in/on my fan. I went online to find a replacement part and found GM service bulletin PIP5419a & b first issued in 2016.. That bulletin explains a known "defect" with the weld. The catalytic converter pipe cracks at the mounting weld. the TSB was issued for all Impalas from 2014-2016, all VINS all transmissions, all 3.6l RPO LFX engines. It says that GM is working on a solution for this concern. Why isn't there a recall on this defect? The file I've attached is not from my car but from the TSB. It's very similar to what my cars catalytic converter looks like.

WHILE DRIVING MY CAR SUDDENLY THE INFORMATION AREA ON THE DASH BOARD SAID "SERVICE STABIL A TRACK " "SERVICE TRACTION CONTROL" AND "POWER TO ENGINE REDUCED" THEN THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THE SERVICE REP TOLD ME THAT I WOULD NEED TO REPLACE THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP AND THE FUEL FEED PIPE. HE ASKED IF I WAS USING E85. I TOLD HIM I WAS AND HE TOLD ME THAT E85 CAUSES THAT DAMAGES IN THE CHEVROLET VEHICLES AND IS WHY HE WON'T USE IT IN HIS OWN VEHICLE. THE OWNER'S MANUAL ENCOURAGES USEING E85. GM WILL NOT PAY TO REPAIR THIS EVEN THOUGH I FOLLOWED THEIR OWNER'S MANUAL.

THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SURGED FORWARD AND PULLED THE CONTACT OUT OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT'S FOOT BECAME PINNED BY THE REAR WHEEL OF THE VEHICLE. IT TOOK THE CONTACT HALF AN HOUR TO WIGGLE OUT FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT QUICKLY SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS BRUISED AND SCRATCHED AND LATER RECEIVED MEDICAL ATTENTION. GM REIMBURSED ME FOR ONE OF TWO REPAIRS NEEDED TO FIX A PROBLEM THAT CAUSED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO TURN ON. THESE TWO REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED THREE MONTHS PRIOR TO GM'S JULY 2018 LETTER ADVISING ME OF ADDITIONAL PROTECTION FOR MY 2015 IMPALA. I WAS DENIED REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE FIRST FIX IDENTIFIED BY THE CAR'S COMPUTER TO REPLACE THE EVAC CANISTER VENT VALVE SOLENOID COSTING $198.77. I WAS REIMBURSED FOR THE SECOND FIX TO REPLACE THE PURGE VALVE COSTING $147.55. IN APRIL 2018, GM HAD NOT IDENTIFIED ANY FIX OTHER THAN THE ONES IDENTIFIED BY MY CAR'S COMPUTER. THEREFORE, BOTH MY REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED TO FIX THIS PROBLEM AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN REIMBURSED AS FIXES FOR THE INOPERATIVE PURGE SOLENOID ADDITIONAL PROTECTION GM IDENTIFIED IN ITS JULY 2018 LETTER TO ME.
