Owner complaintsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Safety recallsA safety recall is issued when a manufacturer or NHTSA determines that a vehicle has a safety-related defect or does not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. Recall repairs are free. Whether a specific vehicle is covered depends on its VIN — a recall listed for a model year does not necessarily apply to every vehicle of that year.

InvestigationsNHTSA opens an investigation to examine whether a safety defect may exist. An open investigation is not a determination that a defect exists, and many investigations close without a recall. Investigations can, however, lead to one.

FUEL SYSTEM, DIESEL

Dec 24, 2014
56 units potentially affected
The defect: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2015 Chevrolet Silverado HD diesel vehicles manufactured September 30, 2014, to October 21, 2014, and GMC Sierra HD diesel vehicles manufactured October 8, 2014, to October 21, 2014. In the affected vehicles, the hose clamp that secures the fuel tank vent line may not have been properly tightened during assembly.
The risk: A loose hose clamp could allow the fuel tank vent line to detach which may result in a fuel leak, increasing the risk of a fire.
The remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and tighten the fuel tank vent line hose clamp, as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on February 6, 2015. Owners may contact GM customer service at 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet), or 1-800-462-8782 (GMC). GM's number for this recall is 14855.

The defect: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 and 3500 HD vehicles manufactured October 1, 2013 to September 20, 2014, and 2015 GMC Sierra 2500 and 3500 HD vehicles manufactured September 30, 2013, to September 20, 2014. The power steering hose clamp may disconnect from the power steering pump or gear, causing a loss of power steering fluid.
The risk: A loss of power steering fluid could result in a loss of power steering assist and power brake assist, increasing the risk of a crash.
The remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles to make sure the power steering hose clamps are properly secured, free of charge. The recall began on August 29, 2014. Owners may contact GM customer service at 1-800-222-1020 (Chevrolet) or 1-800-462-8782 (GMC). GM's number for this recall is 14356.

57,512 units potentially affected
The defect: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, and 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban vehicles equipped with a base radio and an internal amplifier. The radios in the affected vehicles may become inoperative, and as a result, there would be no audible chime to notify the driver if the door is opened with the key in the ignition or no audible seat belt warning indicating the seat belts were not buckled. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) numbers 114, "Theft Protection and Rollaway Prevention," and 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."
The risk: Without an audible indicator, the driver may not be aware that the driver's door is open while the key is in the ignition, increasing the risk of a vehicle rollaway. Additionally, there would be no reminder that the driver's or front seat passenger's seat belt is not buckled, which could increase the risk of injury in a crash.
The remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will update the radio software, free of charge. The recall began on July 2, 2014. Chevrolet owners may contact GM's customer service at 1-800-222-1020. GMC owners may contact GM's customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 14315.

I HAVE A 2015 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 HD LTZ MODEL. THIS VEHICLE HAS PROJECTOR HEADLIGHTS FOR THE LOW BEAM THAT AVE VERY INADEQUATE WHEN TRYING TO SEE IN DARK NIGHTS. THE LIGHT OUTPUT IS VERY DIM AND THE CUTOFF PATTERN IS LOW CAUSING POOR VISIBILITY TO ALMOST ZERO VISIBILITY ON WET ROADS OR DURING RAIN. USING THE FOG LIGHTS DOES HELP, BUT ALSO CAUSES ONCOMING DRIVERS TO FLASH YOU DUE TO EXTRA LIGHTS TURNED ON. I AM REALLY SHOCKED AS I HAVE ANOTHER VEHICLE WITH HID PROJECTOR HEADLIGHTS AND THEY ARE FRIENDLY TO ONCOMING DRIVERS AS THEY ARE BRIGHT BUT THE LIGHTING PATTERN IS LOW. THE CHEVROLET IS NOT AN HID LIGHT AND IT IS NOT BRIGHT ENOUGH FOR THE PROJECTOR PATTERN. THIS IS OF GREAT CONCERN DUE TO THE LACK OF VISIBILITY WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT. SECOND ISSUE - TURN SIGNALS AS VIEWED FROM THE VEHICLE COMING STRAIGHT ON. I HAVE NOTICED LOOKING AT OTHER CHEVROLET SILVERADO'S THAT WHEN VIEWING THE TRUCK FROM THE FRONT, YOU CAN NOT SEE IF THE TURN SIGNALS ARE ON. DUE TO CHROME ON THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE AND THE HEADLIGHT - DRL - YOU CAN NOT SEE THE BLINKING TURN SIGNAL FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. SO, SOMEONE COULD EASILY TURN IN FRONT OF OR NOT SEE THE TRUCK IS TURNING DUE TO THE INABILITY TO SEE THE TURN SIGNAL FROM THE FRONT.

NEW TRUCK, 15372 MILES, NO OFF ROADING OR ROUGH SURFACE DRIVING. PULLS TO THE RIGHT. CONCERNED ABOUT SUSPENSION/STEERING FAILURE. THE VEHICLE PULLS TO THE RIGHT. TWO CHEVY DEALERS HAVE LOOKED AT THE ISSUE WITH NEGATIVE RESULTS. THERE IS NO REASON OTHER THAN MANUFACTURING ERROR THAT WOULD CAUSE THE PROBLEM. BOTH CHEVY DEALERS HAVE REPORTED THAT THE TIRES ARE IN GOOD CONDITION AND ONE DID AN ALIGNMENT. THE ALIGNMENT,I PAID FOR,DID NOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE. I AM CONCERNED BECAUSE I USE THE VEHICLE TO PULL A TRAVEL TRAILER AS IT IS DESIGNED FOR. CHEVY,IN MY OPINION, IS NOT RESPONSIVE TO MY CONCERNS. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT LOOSING THE ABILITY TO CONTROL/STEER THE VEHICLE IF THE UNIDENTIFIED ISSUE IS NOT DISCOVERED OR RESOLVED BY CHEVY. I PROPOSE THAT DEFECTIVE PARTS,OR TIRES HAVE BEEN USED ON THE VEHICLE WHEN BUILT AND THEY ARE FAILING. SINCERELY THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE PULLED THE RIGHT. UPDATED 10/15/15*JB *TR

AFTER HAVING RAINS FOR ALMOST 3 DAYS STRAIGHT IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA, I FINALLY GOT SOME TIME TO CLEAN THE INTERIOR OF MY VEHICLE. UPON MOVING THE FLOOR MAT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, I NOTICE THE CARPET WAS SOAKING WET. THERE IS A LEAK SOMEWHERE NEAR THE FIREWALL ALLOWING WATER TO ENTER THE CABIN ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. LONG TERM, I AM AFRAID OF MOLD AND MILDEW ACCUMULATION AS WELL AS WATER AFFECTING ELECTRONICS. FRONT DRIVERS SEAT HAS A LOT OF SLOP IN IT. UPON ACCELERATING AND BRAKING, I CAN FEEL THE FRONT DRIVERS SEAT ROCK FORWARD AND BACKWARD SLIGHTLY. SEAT MAKES A CLUNKING/TAPPING NOISE. RADIO RECEPTION IS TERRIBLE. FM RADIO LOOSES SIGNAL STRENGTH AND SOUNDS LIKE YOU'RE IN A CAVE. *TR

2500 HD TRUCK IS EQUIPPED WITH OPTIONAL OEM TOWING/CAMPER SIDE VIEW MIRRORS EQUIPPED WITH RED TURN SIGNALS EMBEDDED IN MIRROR GLASS. RED TURN SIGNAL LED'S IMPAIR VISION AT NIGHT, AND SHINE DIRECTLY INTO DRIVERS EYES, MAKING IT EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO SEE OUTSIDE VEHICLE IN DIRECTION OF TURN. THE TURN SIGNAL LED'S ARE MANUFACTURED WITHOUT ANY SORT OF SHIELDING COATING IN MIRROR GLASS WHICH WOULD REDUCE THE BRIGHTNESS OF THE LED'S AS IS FOUND IN MOST OTHER INTEGRATED SIDE VIEW MIRROR TURN SIGNALS. *TR

Manufacturers file copies of the bulletins they send to dealers with NHTSA. These often describe diagnostic or repair procedures for a known condition. They are not recalls: repairs described in a bulletin are usually only free if the vehicle is still under warranty or the manufacturer has extended coverage.
