2016 Chevrolet Suburban Driver assistance Problems

Owner-reported complaints naming the driver-assistance system, filed with NHTSA

Data refreshed

Driver assistance reportsComplaints are reports submitted to NHTSA by owners and drivers. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a complaint does not establish that a defect exists. Volume is influenced by how many of a vehicle were sold, how long it has been on the road, and how much attention an issue has received.

Transmission and Engine Failed. Please inspect. I've had several shops and mechanics inspect. I was towing both times and could have been seriously injured when my transmission went out. Then after that was resolved my engine went out. No symptoms or warnings before incidents occurred.

Crash reported1 injury reported

The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Suburban. The vehicle had previously been serviced under NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 19V761000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic, Service Brakes, Electronic Stability Control) and 19V645000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) at the dealer; however, the failure recurred after the recalls were repaired with a stiff brake pedal and increased braking effort while driving. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle went over a curve and the front passenger's side crashed into a tree, then came to a complete stop in a ditch. There were no air bags deployed. The contact's wife sustained neck and back injuries but did not receive medical attention. The vehicle was towed to Coughlin Hyundai (2300 Hebron Rd, Heath, OH 43056) where it remained and was not repaired. The vehicle was not deemed totaled by the insurance company. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. Prior to the failure, the contact was receiving notifications from OnStar that NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V761000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic, Service Brakes, Electronic Stability Control) was unrepaired. The failure mileage was 111,572.

At low speeds while steering, the steering wheel locks up for 1 or 2 seconds causing the vehicle to drive in an unintended direction. This is sometimes accompanied by the electrical system rebooting, and sometimes, there is no warnings at all. It has happened to us 4 times in the last six months. The dealer has had the car twice and is unable to reproduce or diagnose. In addition, sometimes the car has rebooted while driving 60 mph on highways. When this happens, it has engaged cruise control at least three times. I don't view this as unsafe as the steering description given above.

WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE GOES INTO "ENGINE POWER IS REDUCED MODE" PREVENTING ANY ACCELARATION. ONCE YOU TAP THE BRAKES - THAT IS YOUR NEW MAXIMUM SPEED. IF GOING UP AN INCLINE AND YOU SLOW DOWN - NEW MAXIMUM SPEED. THE VEHICLE WILL NOT ACCELERATE. TO MAKE A LEFT TURN - THE VEHICLE HAS TO BE RESTARTED BEFORE THERE IS ANY SORT OF POWER/ACCELERATION TO CROSS THE ROAD. A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION ESPECIALLY IF YOU CANNOT EASILY PULL TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD OUT OF HARMS WAY. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES WITH A BRAND NEW 2016 CHEVY SUBURBAN. RESULTING IN A CLOSE CALL TO AN ACCIDENT. WHEN GETTING TOWED THE VEHICLE DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH POWER TO DRIVE UP THE TOW TRUCK BED AND HAD TO BE WINCHED UP.

Higher-selling and older vehicles accumulate more reports. Counts are not failure rates and are not directly comparable between vehicles that sold in very different numbers.
