What this page shows
Everything below is an owner-reported complaint submitted to NHTSA about the 2022 Chevrolet Suburban, grouped by the component NHTSA recorded on the report. These are not confirmed defects, and they are not recalls. NHTSA does not verify most reports before publishing them, and a category with more reports in it is not evidence that a part is defective.
Complaints are reports submitted by owners and drivers to NHTSA. They are not verified and do not establish that a defect exists.

Each component in detail
What the reports in each category say, in the owners' own words
Engine
Reports naming the engine itself — including stalling, misfires, oil consumption, cooling and internal engine components.
From owner reports, verbatim
While towing a light trailer (~3,000 lbs) through the mountains on an interstate, my 2022 Suburban with the 6.2 engine suddenly got hot and shut off. There were no symptoms of the engine having any issues, it had been running well the whole trip. The temperature gauge went from normal to very hot in a very short time. I was not able to get it to a pull-off area and was stranded partially in the right lane of the interstate with several collision close calls. This problem was later determined by the dealer to be the common crank bearing issue for this model engine.
This problem isn’t just the 6.2L engine. My 22 Suburban has the 5.3L and had engine failure on the freeway going 70 mph in April 2026. Loud noises and loss of power. Towed to dealership and was confirmed that it was the same issues as the 6.2L. The dealership only replaced certain components (gears, rods, camshaft etc.) Parts replaced and vehicle returned a month later but still loss of power and bad idle. New dealership in May 2026, replaced same parts, said faulty parts were used at previous dealership. Vehicle repaired and returned in June2026, a day later new code for service transmission now code thrown and parking break not working. Returned to dealership and said it was a fuel pump module? failed. No vehicle for 3 months and lots of headaches. This recall needs to be extended to the 5.3L engine as well. Needs full replacement, not just repaired. My vehicle still doesn’t run great but Chevy will not honor anymore repairs.
Powertrain (other)
Powertrain reports that are not specifically the engine or transmission — driveshafts, axles, transfer cases and differentials.
From owner reports, verbatim
Intermittant slow, jerking when shifting gears. In 4wd rear wheels locked up on right hand turn, sliding through intersection. No warning or failure lights. Needs inspection and repair.
2022 Chevrolet Suburban, 3.0L Duramax diesel, 10-speed automatic, purchased March 2022, approx. 122,000 miles. In early August 2026 the transmission began shuddering at low speeds. Reported to the selling and servicing Chevrolet dealer on 08/11/2026 at 118,892 miles. No transmission diagnosis was performed; the dealer's written estimate recommended spark plugs on a diesel engine. The condition worsened. On 09/17/2026 the dealer verified the concern and documented a "very harsh shift which would continue until 5th gear" when accelerating, and found the transmission fluid "heavily contaminated with metal and clutch material." The dealer recommended transmission replacement at customer expense and stated GM Special Coverage N242454441 (transmission control valve wear, companion to Safety Recall 24V-797 / GM N242454440) does not apply because DTC P0747 is not set, although that bulletin lists harsh shifting as an effect of the worn control valve. The control valve body has not been inspected. GM's recall filing states this wear can cause harsh shifting and in rare cases momentary rear wheel lock-up. No warning lamps or messages appeared before the harsh shifting. No crash, fire or injury. The vehicle and transmission are at the dealer and available for inspection; a GM TAC/FSE inspection has been requested. Filing so NHTSA has a record of a 2022 Suburban diesel showing the recall symptom and being denied inspection on the basis of the P0747 code alone.
Electrical
Reports naming the electrical system — wiring, battery, charging, control modules, infotainment and electrical accessories.

Operating vehicle normally until one day I heard a rattling noise from the engine compartment. Car had limited speed and i had to pull over to check what the issue was and the car wont start. No check engine lights, no warning. Tried turning car on but only the car starter keeps rolling. Tried jumping and it doesnt start and had to have it towed to the dealership. Car is under 55,000miles and dealer diagnosis indicates there are metal particles in the new oil after replacing oil and a loose bearing. States i will need a new engine, which is on back order and GM will only cover $44/day until repair is complete. All maintenance and oil change invervals were kept up to date. Other days when I start the car, the main HUD with the speedometer does not turn on. Pitch black... I can drive but not know what my speed is. I had to disconnect battery and reconnect to clear the issue. It has happened several times.
Fuel system
Reports naming fuel storage or delivery — tanks, pumps, lines, injectors and fuel leaks.

Driver assistance
Reports naming forward-collision avoidance, lane keeping, back-over prevention, cruise control and related electronic driver-assistance systems.
From owner reports, verbatim
Vehicle accelerated while driving. The RPMs gage turned red; however, the vehicle stopped in the middle of the road with other cars coming. After the vehicle came to a full stop it would not move. Finally it started moving slowly and I was able to get off the road. When the tow truck arrived the vehicle would only go forward. No reverse. Error message on dashboard picture attached
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Suburban. The contact stated while driving at various speeds or while accelerating from a complete stop, the automatic emergency braking system engaged while there was no other vehicle nearby, and the vehicle skidded. The contact stated that the traction control warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that while her husband was driving at an undisclosed speed in the rain the failure reoccurred, causing the vehicle to skid. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was test-driven, but the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 89,000.

Seat belts
Reports naming seat belts, buckles, retractors and pretensioners.
From owner reports, verbatim
“Service safety restraint system” light came on. I feel this is a defect and a serious concern. I’ve seen where others are experiencing the same issue. I bought this vehicle specifically because I wanted to a safe vehicle to drive my 4 children around in.
Car says "service safety restraint system" and airbag light comes on intermittently. Dealer won't cover under safety restraint warranty. They site TSB about a wire that GM made too short but are not sure it will fix it. This car has 42,000. We are worried the safety restraint system won't work and we carry 4 children in our vehicle. This should be covered and a safety recall.

3rd row seat headrest will not stay up. This is a problem with 2021 and some 2022 suburbans Dealer is charging me to replace it. This is a safety issue that should be apart of the original recall # N2022316750

Having reviewed online your safety recall number N252536750, I am experiencing the same issue (right rear wheel occasionally locks when starting from a standstill and turning right). It only lasts about 1 or 2 seconds while accelerating. However, when I discussed this with my Chevrolet Dealer, I was told that according to the VIN for my 2022 Suburban 3.0L Diesel, I am not part of that recall. I plan to take it to the Chevrolet Dealer very soon for more analysis. However, I wanted to bring this to your attention, as it could be hazardous. I have not gotten any dash warning messages. Thank you.

A. The Emergency Brake system, The Anti-Collision Sensor, The vibrating Driver's seat Alert, The dashboard Collision Alert lightening......All of these gave no alert prior to the collision. B.The failure of the safety devices prevented from me from avoiding a collision that was cause by the other driver (Police report available for your peruse) C. They inspected and denied any liability for any failure of their safety devices (And my question to them is if any these are functioning properly as said, then there wouldn't be any collision ) D. Yes, inspected E. There were no waring lamps, no seat vibration, the emergency brake never ceased the car from colliding.

Steering
Reports naming the steering system — racks, columns, power-steering assist and steering linkage.
From owner reports, verbatim
the steering wheel heater turned on unexpectedly (it was 70 degrees outside) when I started the car this morning. The wheel was hot to the touch. To turn it off I had to turn it on and then off again. I am worried it may have a short or be a fire hazard if it is on all the time or without being turned on by a sensor or the driver.

Suspension
Reports naming suspension components — springs, struts, shocks, control arms and related hardware.

Unmodified 2022 Chevrolet Suburban with 53K mi, driving 25 mph on paved county road. Without warning the upper ball joint on the right front side sheared off. There were no sounds, no bumps or grinding, truck is routinely maintained, cleaned and inspected - this was out of the blue. If we had been going faster it could have been a disaster. The dealer confirmed it is the upper ball joint. Significant mechanical damage has included the upper control arm and drive line (4wd). We are working with GM to get this repaired. It certainly seems like a Serious Safety issue. I have seen many reports of this problem.

Tires & wheels
Reports naming tires, wheels, hubs, or the tire-pressure monitoring system.
From owner reports, verbatim
I purchased a 2022 Chevrolet Suburban on December 6, 2022 equipped with4 Bridgestone Alenza A/S 02 tires sized 275 50R22. On December 21, on my way home I hit a bump. When I got home I could audibly hear air leaking out of the passenger rear tire. I called OnStar who sent a tow truck driver out to put the spare on. We could not find a nail or anything in the tire but there was about a 1.5 inch crack in the sidewall about 1 inch away from the rim with nothing sticking in it. I took it to the dealership where I purchased the tire and they ordered a replacement tire. They said that I could file a complaint with the State Department of Transportation if I wanted. It cost me about $328 to repair. On February 12, around 9:00 pm, I was about an hour and a half away from home about to drive back when the tire sensor light came on saying the passenger rear tire had low air pressure. I pulled into a park and went to look and I again could audibly hear air leaking from the tire. I had not hit any bumps this time, but the tire was completely flat within 20 minutes. When the tow truck driver came to put the spare on, I explained to him what happened previously and that was the second time this had happened within 2 months of purchasing the vehicle. He looked at the tire with me and it had the same tear in the sidewall in the same location as the previous tire. There was no nail or object in the tire, just a 1.5 inch long rigid crack. I noticed that there had been a Bridgestone recall for this type of tire for size 275 55R20 in 2021 because of a pin hole in the sidewall. I believe that my tires are defective.

Wipers quit working while driving through a rain episode. We tried to have the car to "reset", stopped at a gas station, stopped the car, we all got off and locked the car for at least 5 minutes. Still no wipers.
